Your right much better spent money, but if you will read my statement i did not say all these great research studies were done with tax dollars, my point is that it was another great study. Even though "some" of these studies are done at private schools does not mean that they are done always with private money.

MOST of the funding for research at Harvard comes via Federal monies.
Indeed, for most of the best known Universities, the majority of research funds are from federal sources.
However, when you find someone declaring such research as "wasting" money, whatever the source, it almost always is due to ignorance and a hopelessly inadequate background in the sciences.
The demonstration that a gene or genes control the activities and attitutdes of friutflies shows that the same factors are there in humans and learning to understnad that, along with learning which genes are involved, provided enormous benifit toward the treatment of abnormalities in human beings, if nothing else.

So many of these studies end up basically in the can, and you do not need your science degree to know that, some studies help but they need to be more selective in these studies instead of just using money because its their, but then again if they don't use it they will lose it somewhere the system needs to change.

Almost all of the actual scientific research done for NASA via the space program (I am not talking about guiding a rocket to the moon and back or even making it possible for a human to ride in it. That is engineering, not science.) recieved the sort of degrading attacks you place on research into fruitfly genetics, but, so far as I can find, not a single one of them failed to eventually be the root of some later wonderous devise or discovery that is hailed by mankind. (Much the same can be said for all of the "wasted" research money that went into developing the BOMB.)

Knock off the name calling. You know exactly what i mean. It makes no difference what field is being talked about on this board, you head for the same name calling and state how much of a expert you are in that field to rationalize your name calling.(politics,religion, war, science, business,etc) No bdgee i am not impressed how much of an expert you are, or how much education you have, i have been around to long and in many fields to really buy what you say. You sidestep issues and use the name calling to cover. I am really surprised that allstocks has not put a stop to your name calling. I do not come on this side that often anymore, but from time to time i like to read and sometimes interact with discussions. I try and keep and open mind especially as i get older, because it is to easy to close it up and think because of my age i know everything, i like hearing the younger people and there side of what they see. I sure hope i have not cut off other posters and there opinions or anyway try to make them feel lower in any way. I tend to get off more on our troops and their issues maybe more than i should but i really try to do my best to support them in any way i can.
