Right now, 48 Sept. and 48 Dec. puts are selling for about the same amount. What are the advantages of one over the other? It seems to me that that longer is better.

Longer would generally be better, in that you have more time to sell and take profit, etc., however, the QQQQs generally start going up and hit a peak at the beginning of the year, so as long as you are paying attention, I would go with the longer.

The only other thing is you likely will see more volatility with the Sept before the Dec.

The open interest or volume might also be something to check. This usually isn't a problem with the Q's.

I would say the Dec. would be a much better buy at the same price.
