As I sit on my computer watching several stocks I wonder how people are making any money...

I see people buying stocks between .04 and .25 in lots of 100 and 1000. How on earth do they make money? Is there a service out there that doesnt charge commissions?

Also I have an Ameritrade account and a Scottrade account, both of these accounts are very slow in executing buy/sell orders on ob,otc,pk stocks, is there a better service to use?
Thanks for your help.

hmmmm how do they make money?... ever hear the term..... buy low and sell high?... lol and they buy alot bigger then 100 and 1000 LOTS of stocks in the .04 to .25 price range... I think you do not know how to read a Level II screen or trade for that matter and you should stop now and do not buy any further stocks till you do learn how to trade...

As for Ameritrade/Scottrade.... i'm no fan of theirs but they do execute orders pretty fast... you have to remember you are not the only one looking to buy Stock X... their are others in front of you with perhaps the same price you want to buy it at who get first shot before you to buy at that price... if Stock X goes higher in price your order doesn't get executed... a stock can move fast in price and therefor your order seems like it's taking long but in reality you have to adjust your order if you really want that stock... though I don't recommend averaging up at all...

And this is the financial markets... nothing is for free and if they say it is there is always a catch that doesn't make it free though it seems like it... Brokers do not work for free... they are the only licensed professional that can buy and sell stock for the public... your job is to find a broker that charges the lowest commission possible with the best service possible... my personal favorite is Choicetrade.com .... other people have other favorites... Scottrade is not a favorite for penny stocks imo... for anyone.. except to use their platform... but anyways go check out www.choicetrade.com and consider opening a account with them...

As for you and trading... i can tell your a total Noob and you need to educate yourself first about how to trade... below are book recommendations:

1. A Beginner's Guide to Short Term Trading by Toni Turner

2. The Candlestick Course by Steve Nison

3. How I made $2,000,000 in the Stock Market

4. Reminisces of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre

5. Trend Following by Michael Covel

6. The Market Wizard series by Jack D. Schwager

There are others but those are my personal favorites....

Mach, I think you missed the forrest here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the simple answer to his question is that the trades of 100 or 1000 shares are usually partial fills.

I could have an order for $10,000 worth of a stock trading at a penny, and you may see 50 orders filled before the whole order is gone. In fact, I was selling some POS the last few days that's been in my portfolio for a while. I was selling $500 worth, and I had less than $10 filled on a bunch of different partials. It's not that my order was $10, it's just that's how it got matched up with other orders.

Mach, do you think before you type?

Your judgement of someone you never met is pretty Hasty at best...

I meant what I asked, (pccola had it right) after speaking with both TD and Scott they confirmed that the screens are showing partial trades and or average grouping. It also depends on your special instructions (AON FOK etc)

Anyways the first part of the question was asked with a bit of sarcasm...

The second part was really what I was after and that is: is there are really any good discount electronic platforms that are both cheap and fast. I don't need the bells and whistles as I have those on other platforms...

Buy low sell high... you kill me.

I prefer to buy right and have two exit points..

Thanks for all who replied.

If you ask with sarcasm then you will get sarcasm thrown back at you... guess you can dish the sarcasm out but can't take it thrown at you... and if you didn't notice I say "LOL" alot to mean I'm joking around with you... as for judging someone I never met... we'll you did that with me already... I'm very well known on this board with helping noobs in the trading game and yes you are a Noob if you have to ask such things....

Anyways take my answer anyway you like but I was just trying to help your little sarcastic azz... I stand by my broker suggestion and book suggestions... if you don't want to take them that is fine but most likely if someone else suggests the same broker and/or books to you they probably got the suggestions from me... anyways enough said you got your answer from enough peeps....

Gee, to imagine I upset the stock God...

ATTENTION ALL TRADERS. nobody else dare recommend anything to me, because if you do, I know you stole the idea/info from MACH...

What an egotistical azz wipe, I don't care how well known you are, just because you post what you believe to be correct doesn't make you the "end all be all"...

I appreciate your suggestions on books and brokers, (there are a couple of the books that I have not read, and I never heard of the broker and will check them out) but do you honestly believe you are the only person that can make recommendations?

Wow.

I have been buying and selling stocks for over 30 years and have done pretty well for my self.

It has only been in the last two months that I opened up my electronic accounts.

I am not a big computer guy, so I thought asking some questions here about how these electronic brokerages work would be ok...so EXCUSE ME, if I stepped on your toes by asking a computer related question.

What a dork... Get over yourself..

Ace, If I seem rude to you I apologize, however when I am attacked, I am not one to just sit there and take it. I never have claimed to be tactful... I'm a pretty black and white kind of guy with very few grey area's

Ignorant - Not even close. I am fully aware of the circumstances surrounding this whizzing match...

I asked a legitimate question, and instead of just getting a n normal reply, I was personally attacked, so since he decided to drag emotions into the world of capitalism (where emotions have no place)I responded in kind.

I asked a simple question which I thought would bring a simple response, instead I received a dissertation on how stupid I must be.

So Ace, if this happened to you how would you respond?

Apology excepted [Smile] ...even though I'm not the one you offended..... [Big Grin]

One piece of advice I will reccomend with these message boards though, is to get along with everyone...posters will be more willing to go out of their way to give vital information, advice, and assistance. Also some posters might PM you a hot stock pick or something. Since your new to the game my best advice would be to get along with everyone, and learn as much as possiple from every poster....even the ones you don't click or gel with from the begging. [Wink]

Too funny... you insult me (and not Ace) but apologize to him lol ... as for personal attacks.. you fired first shot not me... I made a little joke about buying low and selling high and you got your panties in a bunch about it by saying(let me quote you): "Mach, do you think before you type?"

My 2nd post after that was a reply to that first attack from you... I have nothing to apologize.. if anyone should attack when attacked in this case it was me... if you got insulted also because I called you a Noob... well that was a observation based on your OP question.. your a noob to electronic brokers and such.. correct me if im wrong? ...I called you a Noob not stupid at first... I was a noob at one point and didn't get mad when I was called that... and yes those "Lots" are partial fills because most traders do not want to let others know what they are doing by buying Large Lots at one time (you don't want to be labelled the "AX").. so they spread them out.. price is important but more important is having all the stock you want in a uptrend (or downtrend when shorting) without affecting the stock price before you are all "filled"... whether in the beginning of the trend or in the middle of it..

Anyways this "dork" who didn't fire the first shot will give you links below to sites because I know you don't value my opinions/suggestions but perhaps others can make good use from them:

1. www.fairmark.com - for tax purposes for trading and/or investing

2. www.bigcharts.com - I like their charts though another favorite of other people is www.stockcharts.com

3. www.smallcapcenter.com - I love their stock screener when it is working properly... for some reason on this laptop it doesn't always work right... have to tweek my criteria sometimes to get it to work..

4. www.toniturner.com - everyone knows what a big fan I am of hers though i tweek her trading advice to suit me... sign up for her free E-Newsletter.... you'll like it...

5. www.candlecharts.com - Steve Nison is the candlestick chart guru... enough said...

6. www.amazon.com and www.half.com - both have great prices on used books that i and others suggest... btw How I made $2,000,000 in the Stock Market is written by Nicolas Darvas... i forgot to credit him in my earlier post with having written the book...

7. www.choicetrade.com - everyone knows it's my favorite broker for low commissions with no hidden fee's on penny stocks , great customer service etc...

8. www.babypips.com - my favorite FOREX site if your interested in trading currencies... they make good suggestions on how to get started.. read their "school" section as well as broker suggestions...

There are other links but they escape my mind and i had a bad day only to come home to this thread tonight... maybe some other time...

Two questions. Does choicetrade have as streaming stock chart like Ameritrade and does anyone have the candlestick symbols and their meanings on a single or a couple of pages for reference so I don't have to flip through 40 pages to find what a symbol means? Thanks for the help!

Choicetrade *does* in fact have some kind of streaming thingee...have seen the link to it, but never followed it.

Candlesticks: I use stockcharts' explanations, but a Cliff Notes' version, handy-dandy, pocket reference would be nice. Dunno where that is, though. Mach might know...
