I just started playing. Yeah it sucks that one person has so many accounts. It's just not as fun seeing one person in like 5 places in the top 10. I can imagine how irritated the folks who are actually in the running for the top spots feel, especially those that are in like the top 50.

They need to change that next year.

I just started playing, so I'm pretty far behind. (I'm in the top 82% LOL!)

I agree, Nancy should be disqualified.... They mentioned her the other day on CNBC and warned that "only one of the accounts can actually win" which means it is not against the rules and they don't intend to do anything about it.... LAME!!

I started on the first day, and only rank 40,743 or top 15%.... According to CNBC, most of the people in the top 10 played all 1,000,000,000 on one stock the first day..... Kinda cheesy if you ask me, especially if you have 1000 accounts to work with.

BTW!! Make sure you answer the bonus bucks questions every day... They are always easy questions, and it takes like 5 minutes or so to research. If you get both right it's worth 3000 a day, which can really add up over the long run.

As far as the celebrity players, I hope either Chris Moneymaker or Johnny Bench win, they are the only ones who are donating the money to a charity worth a damn, (wounded warriors)...

I regards to the regular contestants...I hope someone from Allstocks wins. GLTA! Go Allstocks [Razz]

Anyone else in the contest? This would be a good thread to discuss it.

Do you guys think we should post the answers to the trivia (bonus bucks) questions here?

I just joined so looks like i won't be "in" until tomorrow. I did get both questions today though so i should start ahead. lol.

can't do limit orders - that sucks.

"Pricing of Trades:
Trades submitted on trading days (Monday through Friday, other than market holidays) prior to 3:59:59 p.m. will be priced at the stock’s closing price for such day, as such closing price is reported to the Site by Wall Street On Demand..."

-- That REALLY sucks!

No limit orders does make it kind of hard. My son plays on a school stock market game team and he has those same limitations. Also, have to buy and sell at the closing price.

Without having limit orders what happens if you, say, put in a market order for a certain amount but then the stock goes higher and you don't have enough cash to buy it? I wonder if they will just buy as much as you can afford?

If you watch CNBC, they have various segments each day where they talk about what the leaders are doing and also give tips and picks for potential winner stocks. They also have experts talk about different strategies and so on. It seems like it is on at different times of the day, so you kinda have set your TV for CNBC all day to catch them.... I'll try to post here if a segment regarding the contest comes on.

I thought about that too, but I don't know if posting the answers to the trivia questions would be some kind of rule violation that would get us all disqualified...

I ended last week ranked 975, top 1%. Haven't placed any trades this week but I will tomorrow. Currently I have $1,157,985.00. How's everyone else doing?

Just so I don't get any replies back that say I'm not ranked what I claim to be, here's a link of a snapshot of my portfolio

Thanks Jo! The market got killed today and since we can only play stocks that are worth $500 million or more it makes for slim pickens. I'll be back in the market tomorrow with my fantasy portfolio $$$, should bounce back after today. If you want a quick tip, the only way to get ahead in the contest is to put all your eggs in one basket. I know it's not what we are use to but it's the only way to get ahead in this sort of competition. GL with your picks, I'll post again EOW on how I'm doing.

All in on one stock is what the top players are doing. TOMO, KRY, SIRI, CMGI and REV. It can work if you happen to be in the right place at the right time (and with multi accounts it sure makes it more likely). But if it goes the wrong way your toast. IMO. I still have all my eggs since mine don't activate until the morning and I'm not eligible to win this week anyway. Congrats RichBy26 - good luck!

Also - I had the video question correct this morning and now it says it was wrong - they apparently had a malfunction so if you at least attempted to answer it you will get the 2k credit. Cool.

It's BS that some people have signed up for the contest multiple times. It goes to show what some people will do to get ahead. They really should find a way to prevent that from happening next time, and the ones who did it this time should be disqualified. IMHO

CNBC Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge: Monday, Week 2 - Beaumonts and Bankruptcies

As I mentioned over the weekend, the leading manager in the CNBC portfolio challenge appears to be a woman named Nancy Beaumont - either the most popular name in California, or a participant who adopted the strategy of signing up for dozens (or possibly hundreds (if not thousands)) of accounts. As I noted at the time, this strategy didn't appear to be explicitly forbidden by the contest rules, though a commenter on that post noted that CNBC's Dylan Radigan stated on air that duplicate accounts would indeed be deleted.
------------------------------------------------

Looks like CNBC is getting more critism than they asked for with this whole setup.

Why don't they say "each Participant may only enter their information once to recieve a fatasy portfolio account for this contest. If any Participant is found to have multiple accounts, that Paricipant will be disqualified from the competition immediatly." I think it is only right to disqualify cheats and liars... JMHO
