OK.... this relates to my other post on here, I called ameritrade and asked them if they were considering lowering their rates in the near future I explained to the guy why and that I was going to go with choice trade, he put me on hold came back and asked if 5 bucks a trade would keep me as a customer. Needless to say that was easy and now I don't have to stress out about getting caught in the middle of transfering stocks. I'm certainly glad I asked this question on here today that prompted me to follow through.

Give it a shot and tell scottrade your thinking of switching and see if they will lower your fee. It certainly can't hurt. Good luck

I don't think I trade anywhere near where you guys are trading. Since early December I cleared out all the dead stocks in my account so that was quite a few sells, maybe 20-25 in that one week. Now that I started picking my own I was probably averaging 6 to 8 stocks bought and sold during a weeks time (12-16 trades all together). I don't have a fortune in there either only around 9 grand. I did open a margin account but closed it after two weeks because I didn't understand it for one and it was useless because they wouldn't let me buy any stocks Amex included that were under $5.00 so it wasn't doing anything for me. And interesting enough for about the past two weeks all my cash has been tied up in 4 stocks that didn't give me the 10% I expected so I haven't traded at all except for two sells that were green in that two week period prior to them lowering my cost per trade. I think they may just be losing customers because I don't think I trade alot in fact I know I don't compared to people on here and my account is nothing special to them balance wise.

Mac, I opened an account on choice trade for my son who's 16, I still have to put 1,000 in it so he can use it. I'm hoping he will get interested in this enough and see the possibilities he could have if he learns enough to retire at an early age unlike myself who will work till i'm dead. I never had a bad experience yet with Ameritrade they always seem helpful and co-operative and I'm much happier now that they cut my fees in half.

cool Jgre.. but i wouldn't suggest penny stocks for him since he is young.. perhaps just big board stocks slowly at first... kids his age become impressionable and can view it as more like gambling then trading...

Oh no I won't let him do any of those penny pennies and certainly not subpennies but I will let him look into cheap amex stocks around a buck or more and I will check to see if he understands what he is doing. Not that I do all that much but I am alot better than I was. I know very well he may lose it all but I want to atleast get him interested in it.
