Tried this on another forum, apparently the wrong one. I currently own shares(ADR) in a Russian oil company. The company has announced an upcoming IPO but I'm not sure how that affects me. Am I screwed or should my ADRs move in accordance with the share price after the IPO? I'd appreciate any insight anyone might have.

Metal, The symbol is RNGZY (Rosneft). Thanks. It looks pretty good to me.

I have been following this for some time mainly via g**gle alerts. This is from a Bloomberg article.
Russia May Raise $20 Billion in Rosneft Stock Sale
Bloomberg, February 14, 2006
Russia's government plans to raise $20 billion through a share sale in oil producer OJSC Rosneft, what would be the world's largest initial public offering, as China and India seek to buy a stake in the company. [ details ]

Metal1, there is also www.rosneft.com/english/ which has several PRs and news about the company. Nt much in the way of charts, though.

I hear ya Bob and would not argue the semantics of an IPO definition. The fact remains that a issuance of shares seems to be forthcoming on one or more exchanges. I am just curious as to how these shares correlate to my ADRs in the same company. Any light you can shed in that arena?

Article doesn't say how big or any of the details you might need to come to a conclusion.

Bob, Right. That is where the difficulty lies. I don't think I stand to lose, per se, but would like to think that if it spikes at IPO, mine would as well. I do know that a valuation was done and estimate is 58 billion plus. The IPO is expected to raise 15-20 billion and there is speculation that it will be largest IPO ever. Maybe it's just the Kremlin releasing control of some shares, I don't know. Not sure how many shares are being offered but I probably have 100 emails/alerts from different sources relative to this transaction to include a multi-million dollar pipeline being built (trans-siberian) from Russia to China. Just curios as to whether it may be a sound investment (dare I say gamble?)
