I signed up for a Scottrade account last night, and got two identical emails telling me that my account was activated, what my initial password is, and who my local branch manager is. It tells me I can log in with my account number, but here's the thing: I never got an account number. It's the weekend now, so I'm pretty sure I can't call the local office. Should I have recieved my account number, or will I get it later?

Your local branch should open 30 minutes before the bell; call then and clear everything up...shouldn't take long. I'm just wondering how you funded it...I did a wire transfer--do they take credit/bank cards now?

Well, I was going to do a transfer from another brokerage, but the form to fill out wanted me to write in my account number. So, no, I haven't funded it yet.

When I opened mine, seems like wire transfer was the quickest way to get funded...Account number I got either over the phone or by visiting the office, I don't recall now. I think it's well worth thr effort to visit occassionally--seems to help, when I have a question or request, that have a name matched with a face, ya know...?

OK. Thanks. I'll be calling them early Monday. Nothing I read said that I had to contact them for my account number, so I was confused and thought I might have missed something. I'm too used to instant gratification on the internet.

Well, I'm not saying there's *not* an online method--I dunno. But it sure won't hurt to call; at least a "real person" will know what's going on. That never hurts, imo...

Well, I chose Scottrade because they are a big name, and I know people who like them. I'm not a daytrader, so saving $2 per trade to use a broker I don't know and trust isn't worth it to me.

Scottie's OK--get some bad feeds from time to time, and tech support is not very helpful. Also, I play some "wacky" ones, and they're not too helpful outside of mainstream issues. Choicetrade is where my next account is going; for one thing, they allow stops on pennies, which is a great benefit for me...

well im very well known on this site.. and i have no financial stake in choicetrade.com so thats why i suggested it.. a big name doesnt always mean great service... anyways you can ask Tex or others if im reliable.. Choicetrade is not just for daytraders.. its for daytraders, swingtraders, position traders and INVESTORS if that is your ticket... and also Choicetrade lets you put stop/losses on penny stocks if you decide to play the Ponies.. i mean Pennies hehe..

I use scottrade now. I was going to also use choicetrade. However, while opening an account, my state was not listed so it says they are not able to do business in MN so I can'topen an acount with them. BUMMER!
