I opened my ameritrade account this saturday and wired the money in. Its showing I have $500 in the account, but it wont let me buy stocks. it says there are not enough "non-marginable" funds. I have the money in the account, what did I do wrong?

They do say that you need at least $2,000 to open the account but I know a lot of people who opened their account with $500 or a $1000 and had no problems. Keep in mind that I'm talking about Ameritrade Canada.
If you call them and talk with 3 CSRs chances are you'll get 3 different answers but try that and see what they tell you.
-------------------- Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game.

I read what you needed to open the account, it said $500 in the US, and they still wont let me trade.

If you did an ACH transfer, it will take 5 business days before the funds are available. If it was a straight-forward wire transfer, it should be available now. I have Ameritrade too. I hope that helps.
