I'm an Indie Film Writer/Producer working on a film/script about Daytrading/Day Traders. My investor has giving me an account with 50 Grand in stock and cash to work with to learn about the trading and to get ideas of what goes on. I'm looking for some inside tips on the best ways to go about it, great stories about trades and such to put into the script, (can be uncredited if you wish) but in General I am looking to fund the film entirely through trading stocks, (every film needs it's gimic to set it apart from other films) So the forum is open and I hope to get some responses from people as to how to go about trading, stories ect. what lives are like for those working full time as Daytraders and such, and of course, any investment tips to help fund the movie will gladly come with a film credit for the help! Hope to hear something back from all of you.

first thing you need is a top grade PC and broadband...

1 gig of ram...
2 hard drives (set up separately)
at least 2 dual VGA cards, (preferably 3)
4 monitors, (preferably 6)

Well thanks for the post Glassman but taking the 50 grand and shooting the film would defeat the whole purpose. How would I understand what goes on and get any stories about trading? Wouldn't I at that point just have a film about an investor that gave a guy 50 grand to make a movie about Daytrading? I have actually made a couple of films and do have film credits at IMDB.com so I am serious about writing this film and making it. I am not serious enough to go crazy day trading and don't think that I am going to make a million dollars doing it but will dabble here and there to get the feeling of what goes on and hopefully through here gain stories and insite to whta really goes on and for those willing to help out and are interested, movie credits will be forthcoming. But I do understand the humor of your post and in reality, taking the money would of course, be the best advice, but I am willing to dabble and see what comes of it and hopefully I will make more money making the movie than I will trading the stock! OK you got the humor...good,
cuz guess what... that's the first thing you lose daytrading(even if you are making money)...
or maybe i should say it's the hardest thing to keep [Big Grin]

ever been to a casino and actually LOOK at the other people gambling....almost none are ever smiling...unless they hit a huge payoff..(rare)

i don't really equate day-trading with casino gambling....BUT there are similarities...it's more like poker

Funny you should mention that because when I am not writing, I am at the craps table at the Casino's here in Washington, so I do get the similarity although much like dabbling in this, I don't pretend to be a professional gambler and I certainly will not be delusional that I will be a professional daytrader but hope to gain the insight for the film I plan to write. I have read thousands of postings and just from those I can tell there are many personalities involved, so hopefully my sense of humor will remain intact even if my 50 grand doesn't.

More like Black Jack then Poker.. since the dealer are the MM's and you are the player counting cards and using basic strategy so your "bets" are in your favor when the odds are and betting less when their not...

Well I have no clue of what I am doing but I managed to make a couple of grand today on a couple of tips from this board, and I am learning there certainly are quite a few "characters" on these boards, certainly nice and certainly some "villians" so I really see the upside to this film idea, could be an interesting concept, we will see. I can also see how easily I could lose my ass but since I am not doing this except to learn and to research, I feel pretty safe, would lose all my hair if this is how I had to make a living, keep the tips and suggestions coming in please, need to understand this better, what types of people are playing these stocks, ect.

Also get on the boards... U will see on the main forum toward the end is day trading, Momo.. go to that board and watch for the real day traders... You might also want to set up an account with microcaptrader and alphatrade.com.. These are tools that turn a know nothing into a beginner day trader... u can pm with anything else..

for the most part the ppl on the over .10 and under are not day traders... they are novice traders looking for that stock going from .0001 to a dollar... to make them rich...

Thanks for the advice. I've mostly been reading the postings and have gotten a pretty good idea who the players are, who the baby's are, and the inbetweens. I realize that I am just a novice here, but I don't understand all the complaining about "groups" and such. If you know a "group" is going to run a stock up, isn't that a good thing? I realize you don't have a clue when the dump point for that group would be, but doesn't it stand to reason if you aren't greedy that you can make money when it's running up? As I said, novice here, but I'm learning. Catching the lingo such as GAPS is a little tougher, but I'm getting there, keep the advice coming please, hope to get to chat with some of you as time goes on.

Seattlewriter, your project sure seems interesting.

Are you going to show both sides of the coin?
Example, the mild mannered house husband to the neighbors. But during the hours of 9 to 4 can cause the fortunes of a company to ramp or slump using a few stoke of a keyboard....

Best of luck, I'll be watching your tread....

That's the plan but it's going to take time to know who is exactly playing these stocks. As for me, I sit in my apartment, have my laptop going and my desktop going and sit with my little 100K buys and watch them rise and fall all over the place, but mostly I am trying to read all the postings to figure out the people working these things. It's amazing how a group of people can move the price up and down to me, I can see it be very addicting but yes, the basic "characters" would be your everyday neighbor but "daytraders" during the business hours...I'm hoping to get some good stories from people about their experiences, how they don't want to be interrupted between those hours, ect, and go from there. I like the idea even more, the more I talk to people and they PM me

I would say that you can expect to lose at least half of your starting cash learning how to daytrade. Things tend to sink in faster when you lose money than if you gain money, so this isn't so bad, and if you do some reading and actually apply some caution to it, you might even gain it all back in a few months. [Razz]

May your trading build your character as well as your portfolio.
