I have been using Schwab for trading but it is too expensive to use for trading pennies. Which is the better service, Ameritrade or Scottrade.

For example, do you have problem having your order filled with either.

Are Level 2 ask/buy listed as part of the service

And of course costs, although I did see a post earlier here explaining the break point.

Any info would be appreciated.

Definitely go with ameritrade for pennies. Scottrade is expensive.

Scottrade is $7 + 1/2 Principal for Pinksheets, Ameritrade is $10.99

I have both, and reccomend Ameritrade

ghosty,

What are your reasons for liking Ameritrade over scottrade? I have a scottrade account and I like it so far. Just curious

I like the overall support response and user interface more.

Support is very, very good. No matter what time of the day (morning/afternoon/weekday/weekend) they always respond to my e-mails within 4 hours. Scottrade only responds during business hours so you are stuck if you have a question until the next morning.

Scottrade's interface when you login looks very "old" compared to Ameritrade. Ameritrade's information is easier to access to me and looks more aesthetically pleasing. It's easier to use as well. You can even save up to 30 orders so when you need to submit them, it's one click away.

Neither one.. go with Choicetrade.com ... people keep insisting that Ameritrade is the cheapest when it comes to pennies/otc but really choicetrade is with $5 trades on equities and yes they have checkwriting priveleges and other services.. go on their website and check them out.. no minimum to open a account...

price isn't everything with choosing a broker... does choicetrade respond to support e-mails within 4 hours, no matter what time you send it (weekends/4am)?... ameritrade does...

With ChoiceTrade you are not paying more than double the price for a trade. As far as emails are concerned, the only reason I can see for that is to make a particular trade (other than internet) or to resolve a problem. To date, I have never had a problem with ChoiceTrade. Further, when they are open for business resolution if just a phone call away and the are fantastic at customer service.

Suggest you give them a try and see if they meet your needs for internet trading.

They do respond to emails during business hours.

They have always answered me in less then 4 hours via email during business hours.. as for sending them email during non business hours i get a reply also that is automated and a quick response on monday morning from a Rep.. remember if price wasnt everything then commissions wouldnt eat into your bankroll when your trades go bad... and their phone customer service is excellent.. so ask yourself do you want to pay a extra $5 to $6 in commission just because you get a automated email response from Ameritrade during non business/trading hours?.. calculate how much you would save with Choicetrade over Ameritrade... <shrugs> ...
