Well, options are the most effective use of leverage especially for controlling more expensive stocks. Unless, you want to trade penny stocks or very low valued stocks, options are your best bet. I actually wrote a good options trading course/e-book that covers not only basic education on the markets and investing in general, but it gives step by step guides on how to follow proven option strategies from research through making the trade. You can get it at: http://www.1stocktradingandinvestingsecrets.com
Also, the #1 Options Player by Kenneth Trester is a good book, you can get that Amazon.
For general investing or stock trading specifically, I will put a list together for you or maybe someone else has some recommendations.

to research a stock i don't know of any better way to do it than to read SEC filings, available at www.freeedgar.com or go to EDGAR filings at www.sec.gov
u can read what analysts have to say about stocks, but i don't do that. i mostly invest in penny stocks anyhow. www.morningstar.com might be able to help u in that regard. and www.zacks.com ? different higher cost brokers will have research available for particular stocks.
mostly i've found out about stocks on stock message boards. www.ragingbull.com is a popular one. so is www.siliconinvestor.com i like AIPN on the Pinksheets for a beginner's pick, because it isn't a POS like alot of penny stocks, but u still might make a killing in it. (i personally think the chances are quite good.)

Thanks David - Penny stocks are what I am wanting to do. I am by no means a money man that could afford to invest into large stocks.
Thanks Junky - penny stocks, small cap (I think) is what I want. Pink sheet. I know of a guy that "claims" he made alot of money with a very very small investment on a penny stock. I figure you have to be very smart at it, or extremly lucky (Haha..I am neither). I would just like to learn and toss a couple of hundred dollars to see what it's all about, and learn.

cool, i wish u the best. www.aipcorp.com is the co.'s website. full of outdated and subsequently inaccurate information. the website will be updated, although i am not sure when. presently the company is in the middle of becoming current with their SEC filings, which will move them back to the OTC:BB. (don't discount the OTC:BB as a good place to find penny stocks.) when the company becomes current, i expect alot of good news to follow, or possibly before, regarding their LA refinery, and on both of their concessions in Kazakhstan. when all of this happens, the comapny will update their website i am sure. if not before. they should have considerably more than 4 million in the bank right now.
call the investor relations guy:
Michael Dodge Director Corp Communications 732.741.6250
this number comes from their recent press releases.
other penny plays with possibly a big payoff are JRSE and SGNC. although JRSE could be a scam, and SGNC could be inefficient technology. www.jrse.comwww.sanguine-corp.com

Sorry, I didn't know I had to type over your original text, hence I sent out a blank message. Other good sites for you to look at are stockhouse.com and *************.com. I remember starting my investing 10 years ago... I learned that a good broker and patience is vital. Also, a good network of investors is in order. Ensure you invest money you can afford to lose (ya, right). I am the most impatient and scared investor... (I lost a pile during the tech bubble) I still use the discount brokerage for quick turns and my broker for longer term (still small cap). Until I found a good broker, I relied on tips I heard about. The last two sells I did with my discount brokerage, I left alot of money on the table (sold way too soon), but you know, you never get poor by taking profit. Please don't get greedy and take the money when it's handed to you.
