Are MarketMakers the same as Broker/Dealers? if not can someone explain it in simple terms to me... thankx..

oh... i thought bulletin boards were so us newbies can learn from the Regs what we don't understand in the books we read.. I'm currently reading How to get started in Electronic Day Trading by David Nassar... and just didnt understand if broker/dealers are same as Market makers... <shrugs>

market makers are like the big firms who own a lot of the stocks and make the bid/ ask prices and sizes and in turn sell them to their clients.


this, I think is the most simple and least accurate description.

MM's are what is shown in level 2 quotes.
