SYMW - the fuel cell hybrid power system would allow about two thirds of the current battery weight to be eliminated. Golf cars contain over 300 pounds of lead acid batteries in order to provide sufficient energy for two rounds of golf. Because the batteries only last for 2 rounds, busy golf courses often require almost 2 complete fleets of golf cars in order to maintain adequate numbers of available, recharged cars for golfers.
Flowing Electrolyte DMFC-powered hybrid power systems offer the advantage of an onboard battery charger that constantly maintains the battery charge as long as the golf car’s methanol tank is refilled, a simple and safe task that can be performed anywhere. The fuel cell powers the charger and the charger maintains battery charge while the battery provides power for the vehicle’s drive motor. The resulting loss of battery weight means that the lighter golf car is easier on the golf course, requires a lighter frame, requires less energy to run and reduces battery deep-discharge cycles that can limit the battery’s life.

SymPowerco?s majority-owned (70%) subsidiary, Polygenic Power Systems? Flowing Electrolyte Direct Methanol Fuel Cell not only runs on a renewable energy source, methanol, but we believe it has the potential to power the first practical and cost-effective fuel cell hybrid-powered vehicles offered to consumers. At SymPowerco, we believe we have the technology and the team required to bring an advanced, practical and rugged fuel cell to market.

SymPowerco Completes Design Specifications for Hybrid Electric Vehicle Prototype

GARDNERVILLE, NV -- (Marketwire) -- 03/02/09 -- SymPowerco Corporation (PINKSHEETS: SYMW) CEO John Davenport today announces that the company has established the design criteria for its Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Prototype and will submit the specifications to an automotive laboratory in anticipation of the joint design, construction and testing of the prototype. The HEV prototype will serve as a test bed for the design of SymPowerco's Hybrid Power Systems. SymPowerco plans to enter the Hybrid Power Systems markets with its unique Flowing Electrolyte Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (FEDMFC).

SymPowerco recently announced that it had entered discussions with an automotive laboratory for the design, construction and testing of the HEV.

The first HEV prototype will be an electric golf cart in which the company expects to reduce battery weight by as much as 70% through the employment of a hybrid power system that maintains battery charge during the cart's operation.

The objectives of the HEV Project are to determine optimal battery requirements for the HEV, to confirm the System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) specifications for SymPowerco's Hybrid Power Systems, to determine the fuel cell power delivery requirements of the Hybrid Power Systems under various load conditions and to determine the design issues involving the retrofitting of existing plug-in electric vehicles with SymPowerco's fuel cell and hybrid power technologies.

SymPowerco has identified extensive markets for FEDMFC Hybrid Power Systems including golf carts, small industrial vehicles, three-wheeled taxis in the Far East (Tuk-Tuks), motorbikes and similar small vehicles. Many national and local governments in the Far East wish to replace millions of gas-powered motorbikes and taxis with electric vehicles that do not require plug-in rechargers.

SymPowerco Corporation develops advanced fuel cell and power delivery systems for the rapidly growing personal transportation and portable power system markets being created by today's energy and environmental challenges.

SYMW has acquired the exclusive rights to use a new flat-plate rechargeable alkaline battery technology with our FE DMFC. The flat-plate alkaline battery technology is inexpensive, environmentally far friendlier than NiMH, NiCad and lead acid batteries and has no “memory” effects. More importantly, this battery is far less expensive than lithium batteries of comparable capability. This battery technology is inherently safer than lithium batteries that can overheat and rupture.
