Thanks folks....wife found a local dropoff for the goods [Wink] I hope it gets to the folks who really need it.....(I added another case of water, and another case of soup). I would just like to mention, that I am not very keen on giving money to any of these organizations.....purportedly, only a small portion makes it to the folks in need....that's why I like to give what is needed.....Good luck to all the folks there, and give what you can to help out..remember, this could happen to anyone of us...

Marty, Red Cross is a safe donation; if you're concerned about where your donation (check, etc) goes, then you need to label it clearly. Which they are upfront about. Otherwise, as much as they do? Might go anywhere in the world...

Tex,
That's exactly my point.....I want MY donation to go to the folks in the Gulf states that are in desperate need RIGHT NOW. (It's going via truck directly there, not to a distribution center). I realize there are other places in need, but I want my current contribution, as little as it is, to go where I want it to go....that's all....thanks for the reply...

You got it Tex,
Life is short...with all the "bad" stuff goin' on in the world, every little bit of humanity helps, however small....hopefully, when my visitors pass to Earth is up, I can trade it in for a pass to oh, say, DisneyLand? [Eek!] LOL....good luck man [Wink]

I've been watching the Katrina infomation flow out of the area on CNN and Fox News for days now. I've come to the conclution that our emergency services here in the US when dealing with seriose disaster needs a total overhaul! God forbid that we ever get hit with any kind of nuclear strike here in the US if the rate of speed to get help to the people in the path of Katrina is any example! We can't even get them the simplest of life sustaining supplys.

Let me say up front that I feel gratefull for those who are there helping and who have spent the past 3 days saving lives. It's evident that the Coast Guard stepped up and got into action and that they are doing good in the places where it is most needed!

Other services seem to be afraid to get there feet wet however!

Lets imagine that the levy's that broke were surrounding D.C. for a second! Would they be closed now given the same opsticals? How fast would the services have gotten to D.C. if it were close enough to our higher powers for them to feel the pain at there doors?

The reports that are coming out of New orleans and the surrounding smaller communities are devistating to say the least!

I saw a reporter asking the heads of the State police, why there were 2000 or so people who had found there way to a dry highway overpass after crossing the mass distruction through neck high water to get there! The reporter was asking why these people had been left there for 2 days or more, with no direction to services or at the very least why were there no emergency food or water supplys provided to them for those same 2 days. Cops walked away from this reporter. Higher ups who were ask on camera passed the buck or talked in circles with no real answers for the reporter. A baby died in its mothers arms and an elderly woman died on this overpass while waiting in the direct sun for water and the simplest of services. There were cop cars driving right through this croud and military trucks passing them by as the camera roled. This had been going on for the same 2 days!

This story is one that I can't understand! Is it that hard to get water from point A to point B? Where is the national guard? Where is the military? No air drops of supply? I'm sorry but the effort to get emergency life sustaining water and food to these people is way to slow at this point! Somewhere the ball is being droped!

lets talk about that levy for a minute! Where are the huge miliary helicopter with twin blade that I know we have? Could they not form a C shape with cargo boxes on the Solid land outside this levy, and bring in loaders to fill them with sand or dirt or rock and then back that up with sand and rock to put the much needed bandaid on this problem! Two and almost three days now the water has been allowed to completly flood New Orleans! While they try to figure out a way to close it off!! Come on are we that dumb?
I have herd 50 report saying they were looking for a barge to bock the opening with! Where the frige is it, Mexico? People are dieing under the water they can't seem to figure out how to stop! Areas that were not even effected by water damage by Katrina are now destroyed while they think it over! The bags of sand they droped washed away so now they will drop bigger bags that may also wash away and then what? Somebody it dropping the ball here! Is there not a way to get a mining loader into the area to dig outside the levy to build up a berm to stop the water? Any rock or major concrete company in the area would have one! Somebody is still dropping the ball!

How about those on the coast with no homes and no shelter who have no water or emergency services for 3 days! The answer I hear is we can't get there! No air drops? We don't have Fan boats? The Caost Guard boats can't get to the shore line? We can drop 100 thousand troops in Irac over night, but we can't get water to those who need it right here at home!

They pulled all the police off of search and rescue efforts tonight so that they could stop the looting! Where is the military? Where is our National Guard? Why in gods name are these areas not cover already! People are dieing as a result of the delays in responce time!

I could go on with the failure to show up, and the thumb up the butt thinking about it that I see going on there, but what good would it do?

Bush was off playing PR guy in Texas while these people suffered! He has as yet to sit down as a normal president would in the Oval Office and address the nation as a result of this disaster, and it's almost certain repercushons on all of us down the road! Oh yes thats right he's for big money and these people are not in that club!

I certainly hope tomorrow is a better day for those in need down there! It is a true tragady that we can't save the live of all the survivors, because for some reason we can't get the man power there to do it! This is our home land and we damb well should be able to!

God bless those who are there and doing there part. I may very well be there myself when they start letting those who can help in! From what I can see at this time you can't get within twenty miles of the city without being turned back.

rick I agree. This should serve as a very valuable lesson indeed. I too felt outrage at seeing those people dehydrating on top of rooftops, and seeing the looting. And what about those stories of people who had no form of transportation before the huricane struck. Aawwwhhhh!

Thank God for our charitable hearts.

There is a sense of panic now that oil is hitting $6 in some places. I think oil stocks will become a big deal. Get ready.

My choice is TNOG as it is going to start pumping a 50+ BPD well real soon, and gas too.

On a good note, if there is any, US residents, citizens and companies, have stepped up to the plate:
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050901/ap_on_re_us/katrina_donations_hk4

LOS ANGELES - Thousands of Americans reached out to victims of Hurricane Katrina on Wednesday as pictures of the storm-ravaged Gulf Coast overwhelmed living rooms and offices across the country. From churches to ballparks and radio stations to train stations, efforts to help were under way.

Substitute teacher Liliette Pena watched TV images of the devastation wrought by Katrina until she could watch no more. She turned to her checkbook.

"It's heart wrenching," Pena said, stifling sobs as she waited to donate $100 at a Red Cross center at Dodger Stadium. "I'd like to think that if anything like that happened to Los Angeles, people back East would do the same thing."

Many givers, like Pena, reached for their wallets. Others packed their bags and prepared to join the stream of civilian doctors, nurses, paramedics, morticians and veterinarians headed south.

Still more opened their restaurants, churches and even bowling allies for impromptu fund-raisers for stricken friends and relatives — some still missing days after Katrina passed by.

The Red Cross had collected $21 million, nearly $15 million of that from individual donations through its Web site, Red Cross spokeswoman Kara Bunte said. Some insisted on making their donations in person.

"I just felt the situation down in New Orleans is something that can happen anywhere in the world and I wanted to be a part of the whole thing," said Los Angeles electrician Barry Durham. "I wanted to be more personal about it."

The help came from individuals, Fortune 500 companies, sports stars and entertainers.

The
U.S. Chamber of Commerce said initial corporate donations to the relief effort could total more than $100 million, including $5 million from Chevron Corp., $3 million each from JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Citigroup, $2 million from Pfizer Inc. and $1 million from insurer State Farm.

The Walt Disney Co. contributed $2.5 million, $1 million of which will go to the
American Red Cross and the rest for rebuilding efforts and volunteer centers helping affected communities.

Nissan North America sent 50 trucks. Anheuser-Busch offered more than 825,000 cans of water. Sprint Nextel Corp. donated 3,000 walkie talkie-type phones for emergency personnel.

Seven truckloads of crackers and cookies were on the way thanks to Kellogg Co. Two dozen cars and trucks were offered by General Motors Corp. Home Depot and Lowe's pledged cash and manpower, while Culligan International sent five truckloads of water.

More than 100 tractor trailers from as far away as California and Wisconsin were on their way to aid Katrina's victims in southwest Alabama with food, water, ice and blankets.

"It's a good feeling to help. They don't have food, no water, blankets or anything," said driver Tim Cupp, who is ready to deliver a truck full of Meals-Ready-to-Eat. "It's hard to put yourself in their shoes."

Governors across the nation pledged to send troops, doctors and engineers. They also opened their schools for any displaced students who couldn't afford to lose a semester on their way to a college degree.

Recalling the national support given South Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Hugo in 1989, Gov. Mark Sanford said, "we're ready to return the favor." The state's National Guard was pulling together a military police company, a water purification company and a transport unit to be sent to the coast.

Smaller efforts have also begun. At Ragin' Cajun, a popular Creole restaurant in Hermosa Beach, Calif., the Domingue family — natives of Lafayette, La. — collected more than $550 to help a friend's business that was wiped out by flood waters.

In Pensacola, Fla., Richard and Sarah Trimble left their own storm-damaged home to drive to Mississippi to help feed victims of Katrina. They were with more than 100 members of two faith-based organizations who set out in a 31-truck convoy that included mobile kitchens and showers.

"We get more out of it than the people we serve," said 68-year-old Chester Gunn, of Brandon, Fla. "To see the people standing in front of you with tears running down their eyes and saying 'Thank you' — that's something that money can't buy."

Telethons reminiscent of benefits for tsunami and Sept. 11 victims were announced Wednesday featuring artists such as Wynton Marsalis, John Mellencamp, the Dave Matthews Band and Green Day. Jerry Lewis' annual Labor Day fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association will also appeal for donations to hurricane victims. The MDA said it would contribute $1 million.

The world of sports jumped in, as well, with the National Football League and New York Yankees each donating $1 million to the American Red Cross. Tennis player Serena Williams offered to donate $100 for every ace she hits the rest of the year.

In Detroit, the owners of Community Bowling Centers planned to donate 50 percent of their revenue from three counties during a Labor Day bowl-a-thon. And Florida State University asked fans to donate during a football game Monday against rival Miami.

In Green Bay, Wis., star NFL quarterback Brett Favre spoke emotionally about the devastation in his boyhood home of Kiln, Miss. He said the Packers flew relief supplies to Tennessee on the team plane for distribution in Hattiesburg, Miss., and further south.

"It's devastating," said Favre, who added that 50 friends and relatives were camped out at his Hattiesburg home. "The Gulf Coast is gone."

I just saw on ABC that Helicopters just saved 62 people in 2 houses right near the Superdome!!!

Sad note: They just suspended the airlift rescues 'cuz some ******* is shooting at the helicopters! INCREDIBLE! Who who EVER do something like that at a time like this?

Rick - I agree with much of what you're saying. In New Orleans, the cops and firemen's radios are NOT working, nor the repeaters, just like after 911. Yet we're in the "wireless" age.

We need LOTS of upgrading - our entire infrastructure. It's too bad that it takes something like this or 911 to getting them (Feds)to do it. Personally, I'm not a Bush fan - but I'm sure he'll send in every item needed for as long as needed. He's a goofball - but he's a decent human. Much has already been send - but the devastation and flooding is so widespread - they're kind of at a loss on which areas need it first/most. God Bless everyone there - the deceased, the survivirs, and the rescuers!

My wife and I contacted the red cross but they are only wanting money now, we tried the clothes thing but due to the fact they have to wash the clothes and to send packages of clothes and such it cost more to take in clothes so they are looking for cash right now. It is easier to send money than clothes and foods.

another pick of mine but it is not a penny stock is WMI waste management is going to be a huge part of the clean up and this comapny is one of the biggest players in the area. lately the stock has been beaten down to what i figure is a good buy point.
they will also be one of the first companies to benifit from this mess

I know you're primarily looking for construction-related companies, but local hospitality companies might also be interesting, since all the evacuees need to stay somewhere probably for months. For instance, ICAN just announced that their Pine Bluff facility provides food & services to the Red Cross (see ICAN board).

Note not all penny's:
Even though rebuilding is a while away, included lumber/CEMENT companies (9 months)
, the cleanup, mold companies also i have compiled...

Cement gonna be big to restore the 1.5 billion needed for new orleans bridges, did i mention the 300 billion high way transportation bill already passed and demand for real estate and low supply of cement in US too?
CX (Should get u excited about el mehico cement )
RMX
RMIX
LR

GV (like this one alot)
WMSI (bridge parts)

penny plays (nice moves already [Frown] ), mold removal
WEGI.OB (like this one )
ECCI.OB (like this one)
HOM (like this one)
PDGE.OB (like this one)
PESI (like this one alot too)

Lumber plays
MYS
LPX

CX (even if its 50$) should make a big move once US and mexico agree on a deal to lower those 56% dumping duties hehe. US cement (RMIX) looks 'cheap' if afraid of that 50$ price.
PESI and GV are the companies i am prob gonna invest in next week.
