Here is todays news, looks good:

Universal Express Responds To The USA Today Luggage Article

Business Wire - May 06, 2005 12:51

NEW YORK, May 06, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Universal Express Inc. (OTCBB: USXP), finds it may very well be on the cutting edge of the luggage problem due to recent increased pricing by major airlines for extra or overweight luggage, according to USA Today's article released on May 2, 2005, "Airlines Crackdown on Heavy, Extra Bags", by Gary Stoller.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/biztravel/2005-05-02-luggage- monitoring_x.htm (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. Remove the extra space if one exists.)

According to the USA Today article, Airlines have always had the option of charging for extra or overweight pieces of luggage, but only recently have begun enforcing this option to a greater degree, as well as lowering the weight previously considered to be 'overweight' or 'excessive' luggage.

According to the article, travelers can now expect to pay between $40 and $180 per piece of excessive or overweight luggage, based on the pricing comparisons and charts provided. Some airlines consider anything over two or three pieces of luggage to be excessive and charge passengers a fee for each piece. Some airlines use fixed prices, some are incremental and go as high as $180 per piece.

"Universal Express has always known about these fees, we've know that luggage takes up a tremendous amount of space in a planes cargo area, and we've known that airfares have incorporated the luggage handling charges into ticket prices and it has contributed to their losses. The important thing is that now more travelers realize that these costs increase their ticket or travel price significantly. Our Luggage Express subsidiary has known that news articles like this will help inform travelers of these fees, and they will find out as airlines start enforcing their baggage policies more and more," said Richard Altomare, Chairman and CEO of Universal Express, Inc.

"Luggage Express gives travelers the opportunity to travel without their luggage, hands-free, and in doing so, travelers now can understand they don't need to go through airport luggage check-in, or carry their bags. For about the same price, or less, they can go on vacation or meetings without the stress and hassle of security and luggage itself," concluded Mr. Altomare.

For more information on overweight or excessive luggage fees, go to USA Today's article at http://www.usatoday.com/money/biztravel/2005-05-02-luggage- monitoring_x.htm (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. Traveler Suitcases Are Cargo and Should Be Shipped Separately From Passengers, says Logistics Expert

Monday May 16, 10:12 am ET

Richard Altomare of Universal Express, Inc. Authors "Luggage Security" Report and Funds Lobbying and PR Campaign In Washington, D.C.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2005-- Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB:USXP - News): Richard Altomare is fed up with luggage security hassles at airports. The Chief Executive Officer of Universal Express, Inc., a transportation logistics service company based in New York and Boca Raton, Florida, today announced that he's authored a "Luggage Security" policy paper that calls for separating air travelers' luggage from passenger flights. The policy paper, entitled "Luggage Security: More Safety, Less Hassle for American Travelers" is now being distributed throughout the halls of the U.S. Congress, as well as to airline trade groups based in Washington, D.C.
"It's always been my fundamental belief that for security reasons, air traveler luggage should never move with passengers," said Altomare.

Altomare stated that his "Luggage Security" plan resolves shortfalls in the Aviation Transportation Security Act and addresses the costs of moving airline passenger's and the inherent security problems associated with transporting luggage. The plan also proposes enhancements to Homeland Security and ways to generate $16 billion annually transporting luggage for travelers and savings of $1.4 billion to taxpayers in luggage screening and $4 billion in labor costs.

According to Altomare, "The recommendation of shipping luggage ahead using private carrier services would provide a new revenue stream for airlines. Their present loses could be turned to an estimated profit between $5 billion to $17 billion a year and should result in lower ticket prices for airline passengers. People traveling luggage-free can reduce the possibility of terrorist attacks because travelers would be less likely to be targets of travel related terrorism."

"For consumers," said Altomare, "luggage now ranks at the top of 12 complaint categories during the first quarter of this year, or a total of 799 complaints during January to March '05 period according to data recently published by the Air Travel Consumer Report. During the same period in 2004, luggage complaints ranked number two, or a total of 350 complaints. That's a disgrace."

"There is a luggage security crisis in America," said Altomare, "and it's imperative to change the outmoded way luggage is transported in this age of terrorism."

Universal Express' CEO Launchings Coalition for Luggage Security As Rising Consumer Complaints About Mishandled Luggage Mount

Tuesday May 24, 8:30 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2005--Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB: USXP - News) today announced as Memorial Day weekend approaches and major U.S. airlines grapple with luggage security screening problems at the nation's 450 airports, its CEO is formally launching a Coalition for Luggage Security group aimed at changing the way airlines handle traveler luggage. The centerpiece of the Coalition's campaign is a policy paper entitled "More Safety, Less Hassle for American Travelers: A Private Sector Solution for the Airline Industry" http://www.usxp.com/securitywp.pdf authored by Richard A. Altomare, USXP's CEO. The paper advocates that for security reasons, luggage should be viewed as cargo and shipped separately from passenger flights. USXP, whose subsidiaries include Luggage Express, Inc., is a New York and Florida based provider of logistics delivery services.

"The Coalition for Luggage Security is a voluntary partnership which has invited business leaders in the transportation and logistics industries to discuss and debate innovative ideas for enhancing passenger and travel luggage security. Our goal is to bring these new ideas to the attention of the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Congress and the White House," said Mr. Richard A. Altomare, CEO of Universal Express.

Universal Express is funding a government relations and public affairs communications team, which is now in place in Washington, D.C.

"Our multi-level lobbying and communications effort in the nation's capital is an outgrowth of my long-term mission to help reform the way luggage is handled. It is my fundamental belief that for security reasons, luggage should never move with people. Luggage is cargo and should be shipped separately from passengers," continued Mr. Altomare.

At the consumer level, Mr. Altomare cites figures from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Air Travel Consumer Report that states U.S. carriers reporting flight delay and mishandled luggage data posted a mishandled luggage rate of 6.30 reports per 1,000 passengers in March of this year, which is higher than both March '04's 4.29 rate and February '05's 6.07 mark. For the first three months of '05, the carriers reported a rate of mishandled luggage of 6.72 per 1,000 passengers, up from the 4.92 rate posted for the first quarter of '04.

"The agency's data also indicates the increasing number of consumer complaints about U.S. carriers' mishandling of luggage in '04 than in '03. The overall rate is based on the total number of reports each carrier received from passengers concerning lost, damaged, delayed or pilfered luggage," continued Mr. Altomare.

"The Coalition's recommendation of shipping luggage ahead using private sector carrier services would provide a new revenue stream for airlines. Their present losses could be turned into an estimated profit between $5 billion and $17 billion a year and should result in lower ticket prices for airline passengers," continued Mr. Altomare.

"The Luggage Security policy paper now circulating on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. points out that people traveling luggage-free can reduce the possibility of terrorist attacks because travelers would be less likely to be targets of travel related terrorism," continued Mr. Altomare.

"The Coalition's lobbying and communications program intends to call upon Members of Congress, federal agencies, the White House and the airline industry to reform the current structure for handling luggage to benefit the traveling public," concluded Mr. Altomare.

A Second PR Today...

Universal Express Signs Letter of Intent to Purchase $60 Million Pacific Jet

Tuesday May 24, 11:33 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2005--Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB: USXP - News) today paid an initial deposit on a $2,000,000 down payment towards a $21,000,000 overall purchase of Pacific Jet and the revitalizing of Universal Jet, which was previously announced on January 11, 2005. USXP plans to combine Pacific Jet with Universal Jet and re-name the airline. The balance of the $2,000,000 deposit is scheduled to be paid by May 30, 2005 and has been committed with escrow funds with terms to be satisfied.
The newly combined entity will operate under Universal Jet's charter and licenses. Its combined revenues at full fleet are estimated at approximately $70,000,000. With acceptable refinancing, profitability is expected to be $5,900,000 and unencumbered balance sheet assets are today estimated to be in excess of $10,000,000. The synergies between these two companies make it now possible to operate profitability and reduce duplication of efforts while satisfying old debt.

"These two 12 year-old operations should be further benefited by future financial bank restructuring and consolidation of the operational overheads into one cost component which has just been offered to two major lending institutions. There has been to-date no formal banking restructure plan pending the closing," said Richard A. Altomare, Chairman & CEO of Universal Express.

The entire balance of the $19,000,000 will be paid from cash flow or stock at the discretion of Universal Express over the next 3 years.

"Obviously, these acquisitions change the dynamics and possibly balance sheet of Universal Express. It certainly augments our future opportunities and acquisitions. Both air operations will strive to be luggage-free and any future air related acquisitions and investments will be supportive of that luggage-free philosophy," concluded Mr. Altomare.

Coalition Leader and Universal Express, Inc. CEO Says ``Luggage Bomb'' Threat Should Be The Priority Issue of '05

Wednesday June 1, 8:30 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 2005--Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB: USXP - News), Richard A. Altomare, CEO of Universal Express, Inc. and Chairman of The Coalition for Luggage Security, says that a federal plan to install a missile defense system on commercial airplanes is well-intentioned but misdirected and that the U.S. Congress should initially be focused on testing new solutions to the greater threat of luggage bombs on commercial planes.

According to Altomare, "Luggage security on airlines (and buses and trains) is a time bomb that's just waiting to go off. The White House, Congress and the Department of Homeland Security need to start thinking of new, more creative security solutions to the luggage bomb threat. A federally-funded pilot study to assess the security effectiveness of shipping passenger luggage separately from passenger flights is one such idea whose time has come." Altomare is the author of a new Luggage Security policy paper entitled "More Safety, Less Hassle for American Travelers: A Private Sector Solution for the Airline Industry". The Coalition is a voluntary partnership of transportation and logistics business leaders who are advocating new solutions to enhance passenger and travel luggage security.

"While I agree that a Shoulder-fired missile threat is a serious issue, I strongly believe that a luggage bomb threat is a much greater one and deserves more congressional scrutiny and financial research support," said Mr. Altomare. "The Coalition for Luggage Security and Universal Express, Inc. are asking Congress to test a plan where airline passengers would ship their luggage in advance of their respective flights through a private courier service, such as Federal Express, UPS or Universal Express. Passengers would be offered a framework of choices to either ship their luggage in advance at a lower price than the airline charges, or continue to carry their bags to the airport and pay a higher price. Doing so would relieve the commercial airline industry from having to screen millions of bags for potential weapons, and increase airline security because fewer bags would be aboard planes."

"The Coalition's luggage security idea could save the federal government $1.4 billion in luggage screening costs and up to $6 billion in labor costs, while generating billions of dollars in new revenues for the private freight industry overall and potentially a few hundred thousand new JOBS to our economy," said Mr. Altomare.

"Why not test a luggage security plan that could increase aviation security and possibly save the airline industry billions of dollars?" concluded Mr. Altomare.

Universal Express Offers To Support Australian Student Sentenced to Twenty Years For ''Claiming Her Luggage''

Wednesday June 1, 12:52 pm ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 2005--Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB: USXP - News) today offered to support the 27 year-old Australian woman, Schapelle Corby who has been sentenced to 20 years for claiming her luggage, which she claims was used as a "drug mule" without her knowledge somewhere between Australia and Bali. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/05/27/corby.appeal/index.html

Drug smuggling in Bali is punishable by death. Robin Tampoe, her attorney, has stated that this is the case of an innocent woman with no prior indicators who simply was unlucky to be picking up her own luggage from the carousel. Her luggage was tampered with when she was sitting on her plane, stated her attorneys. Ninety percent of Australians believe her to be innocent.

"Our Luggage Express service separates passengers from luggage, insuring safety, convenience and now even preventing strangers from tampering with International and Domestic luggage thus jeopardizing the legal safety of the traveler," said Richard A. Altomare, Chairman & CEO of Universal Express and Chairman of the Coalition for Luggage Security.

"I have instructed our General Counsel to utilize one of our International law firms, to ascertain whether we may assist in any way," continued Mr. Altomare.

"Simply carrying luggage and now worrying as our children travel alone are difficult enough for most travelers. Adding worry about jail time or death sentences raises the importance of separating passengers from their luggage," continued Mr. Altomare. http://www.usxp.com/securitywp.pdf

"As Australian Federal Police investigate the alleged role of baggage handlers in a cocaine smuggling operation, this young lady has been in a foreign jail since before the Holiday's 2004! This tragic holiday luggage problem is far too serious to take lightly" concluded Mr. Altomare.

Coalition Leader and Universal Express, Inc. CEO Calls on Leaders in Transportation Industry to Unite to Discuss Travel Luggage Security and Bring Solutions to Nation's Decision-Makers

Friday June 10, 10:40 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 2005--Universal Express Inc. (OTCBB:USXP - News), Richard Altomare, Founder and Chairman of the newly created Coalition for Luggage Security and CEO of Universal Express, Inc., announced today a call to arms for leaders in the transportation, logistics and airline industries to unite and volunteer their time as members of the Coalition to discuss luggage security issues with decision makers in the nation's capital in an effort to reform the way the country's buses, trains and planes handle travelers' luggage.
"I am personally inviting the best minds in all sectors of the nation's transportation industry to contact me to join this new Coalition and be part of a high level alliance of volunteers. Together we can work together and bring innovative solutions for luggage security reform to the attention of the White House, members of Congress, Homeland Security and the 9/11 Commission," said Mr. Altomare. "I am funding this voluntary, no dues-required partnership so that experts in the nation's transportation industry can actively discuss and debate the most effective ideas to enhance passenger and travel luggage security to benefit the public." Mr. Altomare can be reached at 1-561-367-6177 or by email to coalition@usxp.com.

The centerpiece of the Coalition's campaign is a policy paper authored by Mr. Altomare entitled "More Safety, Less Hassle for American Travelers: A Private Sector Solution for the Airline Industry," (www.usxp.com/securitywp.pdf). The paper advocates that for security reasons, luggage should be viewed as cargo and shipped separately from passengers. USXP, whose subsidiaries include Luggage Express, Inc., is a New York and Florida-based provider of logistics delivery services.

Mr. Altomare explained the formation of the Business Coalition for Luggage Security is an outgrowth of his long-time mission to help reform the way suitcases are handled. "It is my fundamental belief that for security reasons, suitcases should never move with people. Suitcases are cargo and should be shipped separately from the passengers," stated Mr. Altomare.

"The Coalition's goal is to reform the ways in which suitcases are transported. Though well intended, the steps that have been taken at airports by the federal government since the September 11 attacks have been merely reactionary forms of security and quite frankly, the government's efforts are not working." In calling for transportation experts to step up to the plate, Mr. Altomare urged, "If we do not change the outmoded way luggage is transported in this age of terrorism the country may end up with serious paralysis, long-term transportation delays and worse. The Coalition needs the best intelligence of the transportation industry to bring solutions to the attention of our nation's leaders," concluded Mr. Altomare.

"Our company, Luggage Express, still maintains a 100% customer satisfaction rate for luggage movement. Once again, without self-serving direct comment, I offer our shareholders, our elected officials, and now the Department of Transportation to view our position paper on separating passengers from their luggage the right way, not the 'Status quo' of separating them without their consent," said Richard Altomare, Chairman and CEO of Universal Express, President of the Coalition for Luggage Security, and the founder of Luggage Express.

Universal Express Offers Solution to Airline Losses

Tuesday June 14, 2:00 pm ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2005--Universal Express Inc. (OTCBB:USXP - News), responses to the New York Times article by Micheline Maynard dated June 12, 2005 listing airline losses.
"The article, 'Airline Profits Are So Close, Yet Still So Far', lists the average losses of the major U.S. Airlines and an average 6% per passenger increase would be necessary to break even. Some Major non-discount airlines would even have to increase costs over $50 per passenger per one-way flight to do the same," said Richard Altomare, Chairman and CEO of Universal Express, Inc.

"Once again the simplicity of the solution perplexes me. My luggage security paper: http://www.usxp.com/securitywp.pdf proposes lower air fares, increased profitability, additional hiring's and lowering of security time and cost by separating passengers from their luggage," continued Mr. Altomare.

"As the airline industry attempts to continue funding itself only by passenger fares and governmental loans, it continues to falter. As my new luggage idea is better understood, America will enter into the next century with a prospering transportation industry," concluded Mr. Altomare.

The centerpiece of the Coalition's campaign is a policy paper authored by Mr. Altomare entitled "More Safety, Less Hassle for American Travelers: A Private Sector Solution for the Airline Industry," (www.usxp.com/securitywp.pdf). Coalition for Luggage Security Applauds Japanese Experiment
Wednesday August 10, 7:30 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 2005--The Coalition for Luggage Security, a partnership of business leaders who are actively proposing structural reforms in the way baggage and cargo are transported, are requesting a dialogue on the part of our elected officials.

"These reforms are necessary now, in our opinion, for the security of the traveling public and the health of the transportation industry. As our Coalition is promoting long-term solutions, the Japanese government along with private industry is already in a testing phase," (see http://astrec.jp/en/ ) said Harvey Abelson, Coalition Coordinator.

"The Japanese experiment 'Hands Free Travel' began as a test to simplify the check-in experience. "We are delighted to be a leading voice in this growing world-wide movement of safer innovative luggage handling. Our goal of encouraging Homeland Security, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Aviation Administration to consider sharing information and testing has just been moved closer by the thoughtful actions of the Japanese government," concluded Mr. Altomare.

The Coalition has begun a dialogue with ASTREC and Home Security.

Universal Express Initiates Purchase of Commercial Properties
Thursday August 11, 9:47 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 11, 2005--Universal Express Inc. (OTCBB: USXP - News), through its real estate subsidiary USXP Realty Trust, Inc. has pending purchase offers submitted through counsel on initial commercial properties located in Boca Raton, Florida. Additionally the company has completed the packaging of a private placement memorandum under Regulation D, which involves a flex office property where one of the proposed tenants would include Luggage Express, Inc. a subsidiary of USXP. This would be part of the planned future expansion of Luggage Express operations. "We continue to aggressively seek opportunities in the real estate market" said Richard A. Altomare, Chairman of USXP. Altomare further indicated that a Luggage Express lease could add value to any real estate acquisition and would improve its logistical distribution capability.

"USXP Realty Trust, Inc. centers operations on the acquisition of both investment grade and turnaround properties, including those with future development rights using private placement methodology whereby the company leads as an investor and manages both the transaction and the property. Investors receive a fixed return and upside on capital gains and the company receives a similar return method including property management fees. Financing is obtained using non-recourse purchase money mortgages," said Glenn Gromann, Director of USXP Realty Trust.

"The second tier of the Real Estate strategy is to create a REIT or UPREIT using the properties in portfolio and effectuating a spin-off with a secondary offering to finance ongoing transactions. This spin off can be pre-packaged for an acquirer interested in contributing a basket of properties into the REIT," continued Mr. Gromann.

"The third tier of the Real Estate is to operate an arbitrage of various real estate opportunities including the arranging of financing, and various permitted activities to derive income as our growth and corporate needs mature," concluded Mr. Gromann.

Universal Express Questions Luggage Weight Restrictions
Friday August 12, 9:00 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 2005--Universal Express Inc. (OTCBB: USXP - News), today commented on the Wall Street Journal article dated August 9, 2005, "Airlines Tighten Baggage Limits". The article indicated several airlines have instituted new baggage fees by dropping weight limits for international traveler's baggage. In one instance, according to the Wall Street Journal, Continental Airlines dropped it International per-bag weight to 50 pounds from 70 pounds. These changes do not affect business and elite frequent fliers. Northwest Airlines had similar changes with business class traveler's being allowed to travel with two 70 pound bags and one 40 pound bag.

For years we've been saying airlines were going to charge more for traveler's baggage than having it delivered door-to-door by Luggage Express. We believe the increases will continue due to higher fuel prices, increased security costs, and airlines continuing to lose far too much money," said Richard A. Altomare, CEO and Chairman of Universal Express, Inc.

"The increases, for now are aimed at the vacationer or traveler flying for personal reasons. With Luggage Express incentive programs through major credit card companies and assorted travel related businesses, everyone can travel hands free without waiting on long security lines, and without increasing their ticket costs. We do believe these increases will continue, and that it's time to begin considering change in the way the public travels. Hands free travel, and lower ticket prices seem to be a far more progressive solution rather than longer lines, increased luggage charges, excessive taxable security costs and ever growing traveler frustration," continued Mr. Altomare.

"Have we begun to accept weighing our suitcases, as often as we weigh the resistance to a more sensible way to travel?" concluded Mr. Altomare.

Business Wire via COMTEX

Aug 15, 2005 1:51:14 PM

NEW YORK, Aug 15, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Universal Express Inc. (OTCBB: USXP), announced today that The Associated Press reported that federal agents arrested a college student after finding a small explosive device in his baggage as he passed through an airport security checkpoint in Oklahoma.

"The Coalition for Luggage Security is a voluntary partnership, which has invited business leaders in the transportation and logistics industries to discuss and debate innovative ideas for enhancing passenger and travel luggage security. One of our goals is to separate luggage from the air traveler," said Richard Altomare, Founder and Chairman for the Coalition for Luggage Security and CEO and Chairman of Universal Express, Inc.

Mr. Altomare continued with a question, "What if a suitcase bomb is detonated prior to the screening process? Mr. Mark Hatfield, TSA's spokesman said 'The process is designed to stimulate creative thinking and challenge conventional beliefs.' If this is true, why are we going backwards instead of forwards, utilizing fresh thinking as indicated in the white paper entitled 'More Safety, Less Hassle for American Travelers: A Private Sector Solution for the Airline Industry.' This is creative thinking, without doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome." (www.usxp.com/securitywp.pdf)

Harvey Abelson, Coalition Coordinator added, "At a time when the Transportation Security Administration is looking to relax its rules with a proposal to lift the ban on carrying razorblades and small knives as well as limit pat-down searches and allowing certain categories of passengers to be exempt from security screening. There are those like K. Jack Riley, a Rand Corporation homeland security expert who point out that 'the preeminent security challenge at this point is keeping explosive off the airplane.' "

Aug 16, 2005 8:30:06 AM

NEW YORK, Aug 16, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Universal Express Inc. (OTCBB:USXP), announced today that USA Today published an article stating that the Homeland Security Department and TSA are very interested using Biometrics for "Registered Travelers" and in expanding this program.

(http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/usatoday/20050815/ tc_usatoday/biometricidscouldseemassivegrowth) (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. Remove the extra space if one exists.)

Using Biometrics is currently being tested in 6 airports. The premise is to speed through travelers who are prescreened; allowing them to go through express areas to board planes. Companies such as Unisys, Lockheed Martin, EDS, and Microsoft all agree that it would make travel more convenient for frequent travelers who submit to the program.

"Universal Express, and its subsidiary UniversalPost are already providing digital fingerprinting services through Pride Rock Holdings. We are providing these services to some of the largest banking institutions in the world," said Richard A. Altomare, CEO and Chairman of Universal Express, Inc.

"Private postal stores that have already signed up for this service have the experience, and stand ready to test this cutting edge technology to make America, and travel safer. We believe as the popularity of using Biometrics for Airline security increases, other industries will follow giving us an advantage in the marketplace, and locations to provide these services nationwide. We always support creative new ideas that will benefit travelers, the private postal industry, and mostly the general public," concluded Mr. Altomare.
