I made an order for a stock just before after hours. i cancelled it later .. but i'm not sure if it was before or after hours. It shows that the amount on cash is still pending. My question is how do i know if i bought the stock or not?? is there a way to check ?

I dont know which broker you use but on scottrade youd just go to shortcuts then click on positions and that would bring up and list all your current positions held.

I imagine your broker has something similar or look under trade history.

it doesn't show After hours.. my order was not for a penny stock by the way

and if it says (cancel pending) will it be executed before hours?

Cancel pending normaly means they are trying to pull the order from the market. Last at most a minute or so.

Why not call your broker and ask them whats going on?
