Medical Services International Requested to Participate in Major Tuberculosis (TB) Test

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jun 22, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Medical Services International Inc. (Pinksheets: MSITF) is pleased to announce that it has been invited to participate in a major Tuberculosis (TB) test. Based on the test results of the VScan TB rapid test kit to date, the Company has been asked by an international health organization if it will participate in a large scale TB testing program which is to start in late July, 2004. The VScan TB rapid test kit is the only rapid diagnostic test kit being used in the program. Upon the completion of this program the Company will have enough test data to apply for regulatory approval in all jurisdictions.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a highly contagious disease transmitted through the air contaminated with droplets released from the lungs. TB strikes people in their most productive years, ages 15 to 44. Three million people die from TB every year. Early diagnosis will significantly reduce this number. There is no rapid test kit for TB that has better statistical diagnostic results than VScan TB.

Medical Services International Inc. (Pinksheets: MSITF) is pleased to announce that it has received an official invitation from officials in China to attend meetings in July related to the opening of the Shanghai assembly facility. The Shanghai facility was built in anticipation of the approval of the VScan HIV rapid test kit in China. This facility will initially have the ability to produce up to 4,000,000 VScan test kits per year with the capability to be expanded to 8,000,000 VScan test kits per year. The Company currently has confirmed orders in China for 1,400,000 VScan test kits

Medical Services has also agreed with officials in China to immediately ship additional VScan TB rapid test kits to be used for further testing related to the approval of this test kit. China currently does not have set standards related to TB testing. The results obtained by the VScan TB test kit in China have been so good that it is expected that these results will be used to set the standard for TB testing in China. It is reasonable to expect that TB testing in China will exceed 2,000,000 kits per year. There is no other TB test kit available that compares to the independent test results obtained by the VScan TB test kit.
