I just signed up for L2, and I have a question ? ... what does the "1" mean on the ask/bid size? is that literally one share? does it mean something specific? I've also noticed that they do the same thing but with "50". Same questions apply?

I was thinking that they only list 1 or 50 to show the intended ask or bid, but then they actually just execute the trades with the actual number of shares.. that way, you can't see how many shares are lining up in each direction... is that what you mean by "bull"?

perty much, now and then someone will come with a huge # don't let it fool you. Its all a game, watch all buys coming in and a dip in ask, just to try and get some trigger happy sellers.

The numbers are supposed to be the number of shares the MM has to offer. In pennys it is more like an execution level. Meaning that MM will buy or sell "some" number of shares.
on the big boards the number is the offered amount.

keith and bob, thanks, I think I'm starting to get it... a little at least... still trying to make heads or tails out of the way everything flows while i'm watching it... trying to get some feel for patterns of activity and such...

One column you may not be familiar with is the "B\A Size" column. B\A Size stands for Bid\Ask size, which refers to the number of shares wanting to be purchased at the current bid price and the number of shares waiting to be sold at the current ask price, respectively. In this example, the B\A Size is 10x20. To find out the actual number of shares, just multiply the bid or ask size by 100. So in this case, the actual B\A Size is 1000 shares x 2000 shares.
I think you multiply by different factors at different price levels.

I wasn't aware of this. thanks, Paul.... however, I don't think it will work in these circumstances where the MMs hide the correct number of shares that they're willing to trade at the ask (or bid) prices...
