This is the one and only vietnamese stock or fund you can buy in the US unless you have access to London Stock Exchange-same fund is trading under symbol VOF.
Everyone is talking about Vietnam as next big wave or an opportunity. There are currently 49 stocks trading on the stock market and the country limits foreign ownership to under 50%. This is reason Vietnam performed the best last year. It did more than double-whole stock market.

I am in today at $3.00
The symbol trading in London has high volume but duplicate one here is trading in very low volume. It is improving though. It usually follows VOF lead since they are same fund.

Yesterday it went up more than 7% again. In two days I made more than 10%. In at $3 and it is $3.35 right now. The price chages once a day like a open-end fund.

"This is the one and only vietnamese stock or fund you can buy in the US "

So I'm guessing the answer to your question is "no" [Smile]

Interesting..

Hard to find info about this stock.

Here are a few links to check out for more info:

Their website (pretty nice):
http://www.vinacapital.com (go to Products & Services and click on "Vietnam Opportunity Fund")

Their listing on the London exchange, including PRs:

Let me stress that countries like Vietnam -- and there are others like it -- need to be thought of as a multiyear holding. In addition, embrace the fact that volatility is likely to be quite high. Expecting a fast trade is likely to leave you very disappointed.
Probably some money to be made, but how do you predict the swings in a pink sheet stock based out of Vietnam..?

Yesterday it went up 7.79%. Now I am up close 40%. I am seriously thinking about taking it all in. This stock works like an open-ended fund (I thought it supposed to be closed-ended like ETF). You get price update once a day couple of hours after the market close. (Well, at least with my TDAmeritrade account way). I had to write previous day's close price in limit buy order (TD Ameritrade does not offer market order for pinksheet, otcbb, greysheet, and so on)and wait until next morning to see if I got in. On first I believe it was up 3%. Any down day is buy opportunity. The volume had significantly picked up from late October.
With Scottrade, you have to call in the order which costs a lot more than normal transaction.

This may take off in 2007. Marril Lych and JP Morgan are making funds based on Vietnam stocks. Currently, there is 49 companies listed on their stock market. However, that will change as Vietnam became a member of WTO. The number of listed companies will increase sufficiently. There will be series of IPOs next year in Vietnam. This VTOPF acts more like an incubator those preIPO companies.

Due to its limited number list companies along with limitations on foreign ownership of less than 50% of all shares of each companies listed, it was virtually impossible to create a fund out of only listed stocks. The fund invested good portion of money into the companies that are likely to get listed as well as invested in good portions into already listed stocks.

In 2007, with Merril and other major investment firms comming in, these IPO companies are likely to explode.

Just in case Vietnam security market limits number of IPOs, Singapore stock market recently announced that they are welcoming Vietnam IPOs in their trading market. These companies which VTOPF already invested is likely to get listed either in Vietnamese or Singapore Strait market. Either way preIPO changing status to IPO is best opportunity to make return on the investment.

This is not everyday crooked Pinksheet stock. This is a legitimate stock trading in London Stock Exchange under AIM program where McDonalds, GE, and other non European company trades.

With my high expectation, I think this fund will go up 100%-200% in 2007. My lower end expectation is 50%.
VTOPF will not go up 20-30% a day but it will go up most trading days. It will go up 1-7% almost everyday.
If you look at the chart since October, any down days day is a buy opportunity. There is no three straight down days-only few two striaght down days immediately followed by significant leap up days.
Before October since the inception date, VTOPF was extremly low in volume. Investors lost their patience, as it is usual behavior for Pinksheet investors, and sold at no profit or loss. Also, it was during the time (May-August), no one in the market done any good. It was only down 15% at the lowest point from the highest close prior to correction. So I can safely mention down side is very limited.

Now it is at $4.58. I am up more than 50% within a month or so. I am expecting this to shoot up to at least $20 by the end of the year. I may see Repo in Germany for that BMW. Do they give any volume discount? May be we should buy as a group after FRPT reaches $30 and VTOPF reaches $20.

Thank you Repo.

I went with you on FRPT & DKAM. I sold my FRPT at $21.50 today and tried to get back in around $18.50 but my Ameritade won't let me use my money without any reason. I complained and they released my fund but it was too late-the market closed as soon as I could use the fund. Apparently, there was some system error that let everyone who sold FRPT's share were frozen. including you, I guess.
Come on board with VTOPF. You cannot go wrong. I put $30000.00 when it was $3.00.
