I think that Intermec is on par with Zebra (ZBR)
Since Unova changed their name to Intermec and are now concentrating on the RFID market, there is no reason the stock can't reach 50.

Opinion only.

Here is an article/Interview with Alien Tech CEO.
Alien is a privately held Co. but here the article shows that RFID technology is ready to rake off this year, and keep growing.

Tipping Point Is Closer, Says Alien CEO

Stav Prodromou, CEO of Alien Technology, says declining tag prices are making it possible for companies to achieve a return on investment for more and more applications.

By Mark Roberti

Jan. 27, 2006—Alien Technology was one of the technology providers that played a key role in developing both the first and second generations of Electronic Product Code specifications. In a recent interview, Alien CEO Stav Prodromou spoke with RFID Journal and shared his insights into the current state of RFID. Below are excerpts of that interview.

RFID Journal: What's your expectation for the RFID market in 2006?
Prodromou: There are other folks who make prognostications about the market. I can tell you that our performance in the first quarter was on target. We certainly are encouraged that 2006 appears to be a growth year for the RFID industry.

Stav Prodromou, CEO of Alien Technology
RFID Journal: Are you seeing activity in specific vertical industries?
Prodromou: We're very focused on the Wal-Mart supply chain, and a good deal of our customer base is in that space. We've had a significant number of new engagements as the next 200 suppliers started coming on line. We're also seeing a lot of activity in the apparel sector. Levi Strauss recently acknowledged Alien's role in its trial. Apparel manufacturers are starting to recognize the value of RFID, particularly branded-apparel retailers. What is encouraging about the apparel industry is that they are looking at item-level tagging. It's not a matter of having three cases of jeans on the shelf. It's a matter of knowing you have this many size 34 [[According to AP style]] jeans and this many size 32. Many believe it could be one of the first sectors to tag at the item level.

We're seeing increased activity in the pharmaceutical sector. We were involved in the Pfizer project to tag Viagra destined for sale in the United States that was recently reported [see Pfizer Using RFID to Fight Fake Viagra]. We're involved in the San Francisco Airport project using RFID to track baggage through screening stations [see Alien Buys Airport Systems Integrator]. The DFARS [Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement] became effective in mid-November [see DOD Finalizes RFID Mandate Language], and we now have a number of projects underway.

RFID Journal: Will suppliers be able to meet the demand for tags and interrogators (readers) this year?
Prodromou: We've put a big emphasis on the expansion of our capacity and on our efforts to drive costs down. Our new production facility in Fargo, N.D., is nearly complete. We're starting to install equipment. By early summer, we'll start producing RFID tags in that plant, which will have a capacity of 10 billion tags a year. So, we have plans in place to meet the demand, and as the volumes ramp up, indications are that costs will come down.

Intermec and Cascade Collaborate to Create RFID Forklift of the Future to Enhance Warehouse Worker Productivity and Efficiency
BUSINESS WIRE
EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)----There's more to a forklift than first meets the eye. In the emerging world of RFID-enabled inventory tracking, the forklift can become a powerful supply-chain information tool. Intermec Inc. (NYSE:IN), an RFID pioneer and leading supplier of Gen 2 RFID technology and equipment, and Cascade Corp. (NYSE:CAE), the world's largest manufacturer of forklift attachments, are teaming to develop a forklift system that incorporates RFID technology into a forklift's very infrastructure, replacing today's cumbersome and inefficient bolt-on approach to data collection.

"Imagine a mobile RFID system that provides real-time, hands-free information about what the product is and automatically making better decisions about how to handle that product," said Cascade Corp. Product Manager Brad Vandehey. "When you throw out your preconceived ideas of what forklifts do today and think about how RFID capabilities could be built into the very structure of a complete forklift equipment system, you begin to realize the efficiencies this type of mobile data-collection system can deliver."

According to industry magazine DC Velocity, companies that use mobile RFID systems, identifying and tracking products onboard a forklift from loading to unloading, experience improvements in picking and shipping accuracy, enhanced productivity and better vehicle utilization. Forklifts envisioned by Cascade and Intermec incorporate powerful dashboard computers positioned for maximum safety and efficiency, easy-to-reach RFID controls assimilated into the lift's control mechanisms, wireless real-time location tracking and navigational LEDs for optimal routing, and easy-to-adjust RFID readers designed into the frame of forklift attachments for flexible and accurate use with a wide range of goods and supplies. The system, designed specifically for the rugged environment of daily warehouse use, also engineers in a sophisticated cable management system, state-of-the-art wireless scanning capabilities and a built-in camera for cargo documentation.

Cascade and Intermec unveiled a prototype future forklift today at Intermec's 2006 Global Partner Conference in Dallas.

With operations around the world, both Cascade Corp. and Intermec are ideally suited to understand the day-to-day requirements of supply chain inventory movement across enterprises. Sharing a commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, the companies realized early on that the combination of Cascade's forklift-attachment expertise with Intermec's engineering prowess and RFID experience could provide customers with mobile RFID systems that surpass anything available today in their ability to increase supply-chain tracking and real-time inventory visibility.

Cisco and RedPrairie Join Intermec RFID Forklift of the Future Initiative to Enhance Warehouse Worker Productivity and Efficiency
BUSINESS WIRE
EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)----Imagine a mobile RFID system capable of providing powerful real-time location information and RFID tracking capabilities throughout the real-world environment of a warehouse. That's the vision of Cisco Systems and RedPrairie, who have joined Intermec Inc. and Cascade Corp., the world's largest manufacturer of forklift attachments, to create a concept for a forklift that will build RFID and real-time location capabilities right into the equipment of the future.

A concept forklift incorporating these ideas is on display this week at RFID World in Dallas, Texas. The forklift features Cisco's Wireless Location Appliance and RedPrairie's open Mobile Resource Management software integrated with the forklift RFID reading system developed by Intermec and Cascade. With the complete system, drivers can conveniently read and encode RFID tags without leaving the vehicle, and managers can get real-time data on vehicle locations and activity that can be used to manage labor and assets more efficiently.

As one of the advanced services elements of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network, the Cisco Wireless Location Appliance provides location tracking for devices on a Cisco 802.11 wireless network. With the RedPrairie software, it can be used to provide the X, Y coordinates of an RFID-enabled forklift, report movements, monitor dwell time and collect other data useful for security, employee performance auditing, maintenance and asset management applications.

RedPrarie's Mobile Resource Management software complements the Wireless Location Appliance by providing advanced data processing and interface capabilities. It can be used with legacy software systems, including leading warehouse management, yard management, labor planning and asset management applications. The software provides new layers of information about picking and put away processes, workforce performance management and asset utilization that can be used to optimize processes and facilities.

The complete system provides the ruggedness, reliability and reading performance that forklift drivers need to use RFID conveniently, and gives management the ability to deploy resources efficiently. Each part of the system was developed and integrated specifically to meet the physical and wireless challenges found in industrial environments.

Forklifts envisioned by the group incorporate powerful dashboard computers positioned for maximum safety and efficiency, easy-to-reach RFID controls assimilated into the lift's control mechanisms, wireless real-time location tracking and navigational LEDs for optimal routing, and easy-to-adjust RFID readers designed into the frame of forklift attachments for flexible and accurate use with a wide range of goods and supplies. The concept system, designed specifically for the rugged environment of daily warehouse use, also engineers in a sophisticated cable management system, state-of-the-art wireless scanning capabilities and a built-in camera for cargo documentation.

Intermec Receives 2006 Frost & Sullivan Supply Chain Management Enabling Technology Award For Development of Intellibeam EL10 Laser Scan Engine
BUSINESS WIRE
EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)----A dedication to developing and strengthening supply chain technologies and a special understanding of customer requirements are two of the reasons Intermec Inc. has been awarded the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Supply Chain Management Enabling Technology of the Year Award. Intermec received special recognition for development of its Intellibeam EL10 barcode scan engine, the only ADC scan engine to use MEMS-based technology.

MEMS, or micro-electromechanical systems, technology is used in mission-critical applications such as vehicle airbag and braking systems. The MEMS-based Intellibeam EL10 laser scan engine provides snappier scanning, faster scans, better recognition and processing of poor quality or damaged bar codes, and solid reliability, compared with earlier laser scanning technologies. Because MEMS-based laser scanners are able to read bar codes up to 40 times as fast as today's legacy equipment, workers are able to capture information more rapidly and efficiently, speeding the flow of information through a supply chain and improving supply chain visibility.

"Intermec's bold use of MEMS technology in its products gives it a distinct advantage over its competition in the supply chain industry," said Frost & Sullivan Research Manager Sath Rao. "This company clearly has an unmatched grasp of customers' needs. It doesn't just look for trends. It successfully anticipates and acts on them."

The Intellibeam EL10 is designed with separate laser emission and collection optics for increased sensitivity and responsiveness, as well as easier scanning of low contrast bar codes. The miniaturization and solid state properties of the EL10's MEMS technology leads to greater durability and lower equipment failure rates, as well

Intermec 1Q Net Quadruples On $23 Million Settlement Payment
Dow Jones
Dow Jones Newswires

Intermec Inc.'s (IN) first-quarter profit quadrupled to $14 million, or 22 cents a share, from $3.48 million, or 6 cents a share, as the company received a $23 million settlement from an intellectual property case.

The settlement gain contributed 16 cents a share to earnings, Intermec said. The company also recorded a restructuring charge of 1 cent a share and stock- option expenses of 2 cents a share during the first quarter. Earnings from continuing operations were 23 cents a share.

A Thomson First Call survey of eight Wall Street analysts projected earnings of 8 cents a share, including stock-option expenses.

For the first quarter ended April 2, the Everett, Wash., developer of technologies that track and manage supply chains recorded revenue of $227 million, up 15% from $196 million.

Intermec expects most of the remaining restructuring costs will be recorded over the rest of 2006. The company expects savings from restructuring to begin in the fourth quarter of 2006, reaching an estimated annual pretax savings of $8 million in the first quarter of 2007.

Intermec Shares Up After 1Q Report
AP
NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of Intermec Inc. traded higher Tuesday even after the company posted adjusted first-quarter operating results below estimates due mainly to weak demand in Europe, its second-largest market.

On Monday after the markets closed, the company, whose products include scanners, data collection systems and radio frequency identification (RFID) readers, posted earnings from continuing operations of $15.1 million, or 23 cents per share, compared with earnings of $5.4 million, or 9 cents per share, a year ago.

Sales totaled $226.8 million, up from last year's $196.5 million.

The most recent quarter's results included a gain from a settlement with Hewlett-Packard that added $23 million to sales and 16 cents per share to earnings.

Excluding items that also included a tax benefit and a charge for the shutdown on its design centers in Sweden, the company's earnings totaled 6 cents per share, according to Lehman Brothers analyst Jeffrey T. Kessler. This fell below Wall Street's estimates of 8 cents per share.

Kessler, who rates the company "Equal Weight," lowered his target price to $35 from $38.

Despite a less than enthusiastic response from analysts, Intermec's shares rose $1.56, or 5.9 percent, to $27.81 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange. In the past 52 weeks, the stock has traded between $19.01 and $38.81.

The analyst lowered his second-quarter outlook to earnings of 11 cents per share from the prior 19 cents.

The company said during its conference call with analysts it expects second-quarter earnings of 9 cents per share, give or take 2 cents, including stock options costs and one-time items. Intermec also forecast sales between $223 million and $233 million for the quarter.

Analysts, on average, are looking for earnings of 20 cents per share, on sales of $240.2 million, according to a poll by Thomson Financial.

Raymond James analyst Chris Quilty had expected the company's shares to take a hit Tuesday, but said in a client note the downside should "be somewhat mitigated by the company's attractive operating leverage and unique opportunity," such as patents and royalties, within the RFID industry."

"Intermec remains uniquely-positioned within the fast-growing RFID industry, and the company stands to benefit significantly once RFID revenue begins to pick up (expected during back half 2006)," the analyst wrote, maintaining a "Strong Buy" rating with a new, lower target price of $37
