NEW YORK -- Howard Stern began his new satellite radio show on Monday by putting to rest rumors that he got married to his longtime girlfriend, model Beth Ostrosky — in a comment complete with a federally banned expletive.
"I am not married. It's a nice feeling that we get along great. We're very happy and I don't want to (blank) it up," said Stern, who is finally free of government decency laws on Sirius Satellite Radio.
Stern has promised everything from stripper poles to live sex on his new show. His deal could be worth up to $500 million over five years to headline two Sirius channels.
At the start of the show Monday, Stern dished up some phone sex with Playboy bunny Heidi Cortez, who has her own phone-sex nighttime show lined up on Sirius.
Stern also introduced George Takei as his new on-air personality. Takei, who played Sulu on "Star Trek" and who last year publicly said he is gay, will serve as announcer. After the first week, he will record segments for the show but will not be in the studio.
"The revolution has begun" in new radio, Takei said Monday.
Even before his first day on the job, the shock jock recruited listeners for the $13-per-month service: Its audience expanded from 600,000 to 3.3 million subscribers after Stern announced his switch last year.
That's hardly a surprise. Stern's wildly popular syndicated show proved a cash cow for Infinity Broadcasting, raking in about $100 million in annual advertising revenues and capturing 12 million listeners with raunchy, boundary-pushing programming.
Stern had frequently tested and sparred with the regulatory Federal Communications Commission during his 25-year run on the public airwaves, often having his morning show interrupted by censors.
Weeks after Janet Jackson's Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction," Clear Channel yanked Stern from six stations amid an FCC crackdown. Stern signed with Sirius five months later.
"I thought Clear Channel and companies like that were going to fight the FCC," Stern, 51, told the Associated Press last month.
"I kept hanging around. And they never fought back. ... They are cowards. They bow, and they deserve to be destroyed."
On Monday, caller after caller wished Stern luck — and he reacted with annoyance.
"I've been doing years and years of shows but I get irritated when people wish me luck," he said. "You should have wished me luck 25 years ago."
Stern broadcast his last FM radio show on Dec. 16 as thousands of fans gathered outside his New York City studio.

A nice stance to take considering yesterdays news of Sterns ability to sell 34.4 million shares at his leisure.
Chart says its ready for a nice rebound but I will be watching closely with my finger on the sell button if rebound does not occur.
It will prove to be interesting to see which way the street will lean. If I were in Sterns shoes I would not sell any right now and let the natural progression of SIRI creep upward of its apparent bottom to maximize share value.
Even if Stern did decide to sell I would think it would certainly be at a relatively slow pace, virtually unnoticeable considering the average daily volume of SIRI, thus not depressing the PPS too much.
It appears to me that the buying public will have much, much more to do with PPS in the next few days rather than Stern. We shall soon see!

dont get me wrong, not bashing. just laughing. I own shares in the red. (slap me for not using charts here and thinking H.S.) I thought chart looks like crap but howie will move it. he hasn't yet.
why laughing, the old commercials, "pay for commercial free radio" now its "pay for less commercials" or "no commercials on some stations" (i might be able to find that on am)
I like the commercial free premise, i'm kind of lost on the point of paying a couple hunddred a year now

I think that Sirius is bound to go back up. I unfortunately bought when it was high and went down for many days in a row. But i have faith in this stock. I even heard Cramer talk about it.He said:
SIRI IS A STOCK THAT HAS DRIFTED CONTINUALLY DOWN FROM 8 ALL THE WAY TO 5. AND I'M MAKING MY STAND. I THINK SIRI IS DONE GOING DOWN. I THINK THE BUSINESS IS ACTUALLY GOING BETTER. I THINK MEL KARMAZEN IS GOING TO MAKE THAT THING WORK. I THINK HE'S REALLY STARTING TO HURT TERRESTRIAL RADIO AND, BEST OF ALL, THE TAKE UP IN JANUARY, I AM HEARING, IS MUCH BETTER THAN EXPECTED.

with SIRI having a good day today let's hope they can continue on the trend thru week's end when earnings come out. Perhaps they will surprise some people...?

Reuters XM Satellite director quits, sees "crisis" chance Thursday February 16, 8:25 am ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (NasdaqNM:XMSR - News) director Pierce Roberts has resigned from the company's board, saying in a letter to its chief executive that he saw "a significant chance of a crisis on the horizon," according to a regulatory filing on Thursday. Roberts said in the letter that he was "troubled" about the current direction of the company. XM said in a statement that Roberts favored cutting spending to boost cash flow.
