Does anyone have any info on why ZAPZ hasn't moved much lately? With sales growth jumping so quickly I thought this thing would have been moving a lot more.

Seems like a foolish stock to short with the price of oil so high - 60mpg cars are selling like hot cakes.

I can certainly understand why it would have been shorted when the company was planning a large dilution but they called off the financing when revenues came in faster than expected

One would be wise to short gm, and buy zapz. GM makes gas guzzling SUVS that are good for noone. ZAPZ sells 60 mpg smart cars that are great for commuters in big cities like LA, great for governments and environmentalists who like clean air vehicles, and great for creating new jobs in America.

That sounds like a pump to me but I tend to agree - I bought in at .72 so I'm happy but I sure thought this would be a lot higher than 2.80 by now.

How do you know when the shorts start to cover? This is a company with a 72M market cap that has had over 200M in sales this quarter - why would any MM still be shorting?

ZAP Announces Total of $431 Million in SMARTCAR Purchase Orders in SEC Form 10-KSB Annual Report Filed Today; Company Details Business Activity in High-Efficiency Transportation and Energy Divisions in Financial Filing

SANTA ROSA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 2005--ZAP (OTCBB:ZAPZ), pioneering the next generation of advanced transportation and energy technologies, announced today that purchase orders from U.S. auto dealers for its SMARTCAR micro-coupe has reached $431 million, reflecting a broad base of consumer demand for a vehicle that fulfills modern transportation needs while providing high levels of fuel efficiency.

Dealer orders for the Smartcar have climbed steadily in recent months as ZAP has successfully solved the technological conversion issues required to prepare the Mercedes-built vehicle Americanized by ZAP for the U.S. marketplace. On March 22, ZAP announced reaching $200 million in dealer orders. ZAP and its partners have developed a number of proprietary software and other technical solutions to enable the Smartcar to meet U.S. safety and emissions standards, and also hold licensing rights to conduct the Smartcar Americanization from non-affiliated Smart-Automobile LLC.

"The phenomenal response has made it clear that the Smart Car has arrived in the U.S. at precisely the moment that American consumer demand for a new class of high-efficiency motor vehicles is exploding," said Steve Schneider, CEO of ZAP. "Oil and gas prices have been climbing steadily and show no signs of abating, with one prominent industry analyst predicting a coming oil price `super-spike' to $100 per barrel. This is causing increasing numbers of motorists to think in terms of fuel-efficient transportation of the sort that ZAP is a leader. Our market research and feedback has shown that U.S. consumers are attracted to the Smart Car by a number of factors, including its eye-catching design, styling, and size, as well as its groundbreaking gas mileage economies. We believe that the Smart Car, shown to be one of the world's most fuel-efficient gas vehicles, is one of the leading contenders in the next generation of road transportation."

The Form 10-KSB report for fiscal year end December 31, 2004 reflected the Company's business strategy to create a significant corporate technology and marketing entity capable of designing and delivering a broad line of transportation and advanced energy products. Topline revenues were $4.77 million, an 18.1% drop from the previous year's $5.83 million. Net losses were $ $29.4 million, compared with $5.5 million in 2003. Net loss per share was a loss of $1.67, compared with a net loss per share of $0.49 the previous year. A significant portion of the net loss for the year is comprised of non-cash transactions such as stock based compensation for consulting, services and employee arrangements, settlement of a stock agreement, and revaluation of certain ZAP warrants. Total Assets have also increased from $7.2 million in 2003 to $29.8 million at the end of 2004.

"The Company invested heavily in 2004 to create the current opportunities we're now witnessing in the automobile market as demand grows for the Smart Car and other ZAP advanced products," said Mr. Schneider. "Our success in this phase of our business plan has been demonstrated by the growth of purchase orders for the Smart Car and of our marketing strategy to build an alternative energy and high-efficiency automotive dealer network. This strategy has already generated $431 million in orders from U.S. dealers as we prepare to deliver our energy-efficient vehicles to the American marketplace."

Delivery of the Smart Cars represented by the current purchase orders is conditional upon ZAP's execution of strategic relationships with major automotive manufacturing partners that will enable it to support the full sales pipeline. To build sufficient capacity to supply the full U.S. demand, the Company has been in discussions with a number of major automotive industry leaders in Europe and Asia that have direct experience in the manufacture and sales of high-efficiency vehicles.

"The Company has not agreed to accept all orders received at this time, and have not determined a delivery schedule," said Mr. Schneider. "The Company will need the support of a major manufacturer and the full approval of all necessary governmental agencies for Smart Car models ordered to be able to deliver cars in this volume. We are actively seeking this support. The success of our marketing efforts so far in the U.S. has generated significant interest from these potential manufacturing partners. Upon finalization of these strategic relationships, we will determine our delivery schedule. Fortunately, interest in Smart Car Americanized by ZAP is so strong that a number of dealers have indicated that they are prepared to purchase a significant number of vehicles with cash up front, which will assist the Company's efforts to bring the product to the market. There is also currently a significant supply of unsold new Smart Cars in Europe that could be directed into the ZAP pipeline for Americanization and sale here in the United States. Currently, no other companies besides ZAP have the know-how or proprietary solutions to convert Smart Cars for sale in the United States."

I read that this morning - the float is still 8.8M with 25M shares outstanding - this looks really good when the shorts cover. I added more today @2.86 - it's been good so far but has been stuck at this level for a while.

These are my thoughts on this company broken down to the very basics, I would really appreciate anyone with knowledge of the company to correct me if I'm wrong:
1)Company has full and exclusive license to import the Smart Car and already has $431M in purchase orders in the span of a few months.
2)Owns all intellectual property rights to Americanize the vehicle.
3) Still needs the clout of a larger company to fully realize the distribution potential of the Smart Car in America.

This looks to me to be a buyout or merger candidate - How could a large company NOT be interested in cashing in on a possible 500,000,000 in sales per quarter? At sixty miles per gallon, the Smart car should become as popular in the U.S. as it is in Europe.

Worst case scenario is that Zap sells all of the import rights and intellectual property - still a huge profit for such a tiny company.

Do these hedge fund guys just try to put small companies out of business by naked shorting? What happens when they have a short position in a company like this with so much upward pressure on the stock price - don't they have to cover at some point or do they just short more fake shares to keep the price down?

Assuming ZAPS can deliver the cars and doesn't get bought out, hundreds of millions in sales should turn into millions in earnings. Or am I missing something?

BTW, I've heard that ZAPS is also receiving multi million dollar checks from car dealerships for the exclusive rights to sell Smart cars in their areas.

Comments?

ZAP Breaks Half-Billion-Dollar Threshold for SMARTCAR Purchase Orders from U.S. Auto Dealers
Thursday April 14, 1:51 pm ET
American Orders for High-Efficiency SMARTCAR Gas-Powered Micro-coupe Rise as World Oil Prices Skyrocket

SANTA ROSA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 2005--ZAP (OTCBB:ZAPZ - News), pioneering the next generation of advanced transportation and energy technologies, has announced that advance purchase orders from U.S. auto dealers for the SMARTCAR has crossed the half-billion-dollar mark, indicating continued strong demand by American drivers for the fuel-efficient German-made microcoupe.

ZAP has recently reported increasing volumes of dealer purchase orders for the Smartcar, a Mercedes-built vehicle that's one of the most efficient gas-powered cars manufactured. The Smartcar has already proved popular among drivers in countries throughout Europe. Earlier this month, on April 5, the Company announced receipt of a total of $431 million in U.S. purchase orders. ZAP owns the technology to Americanize the Smartcar to meet U.S. emissions and safety standards, and holds all licensing rights from non-affiliated Smart-Automobile LLC to conduct the Smartcar Americanization.

"Breaking through the half-billion-dollar barrier further underscores just how eagerly American consumers want to save money on fuel expenses while driving a car that is comfortable, easy to park, safe and exciting," said Steve Schneider, CEO of ZAP. "While this country has enjoyed relatively low gasoline prices over the decades, it is clear that continued rising fuel costs are profoundly affecting millions of Americans who are conscious of the need to control their transportation budgets. In addition, many consumers are motivated by a sense of environmental responsibility that also pushes them toward the most fuel-efficient vehicles."

ZAP is currently in discussions with a number of potential partners to meet the strong American demand for the Smart Car. Delivery of the Smart Cars represented by the current level of purchase orders is conditional upon ZAP's execution of strategic relationships with major automotive manufacturing partners that will enable it to support the full sales pipeline. To build sufficient capacity to supply the full U.S. demand, the Company has been in discussions with a number of major automotive industry leaders in Europe and Asia that have direct experience in the manufacture and sales of high-efficiency vehicles. Once ZAP finalizes the required strategic partnerships and has approval from all government agencies, it will determine its delivery schedule for Smart cars in the United States.

ZAP Announces Smart Car Receives Final Regulatory Approval for U.S. Sale as Dealer Orders Cross Three-Quarter-Billion Dollars; ZAP Celebrates Full Certification with Ceremony at Santa Ana, Calif., City Hall and Drive to Smart Car Conversion Facility

Business Wire via COMTEX

Apr 19, 2005 4:32:02 PM

SANTA ANA, Calif,, Apr 19, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

ZAP (OTCBB:ZAPZ), pioneering the next generation of advanced transportation and energy technologies, announced that the Smart Car Americanized by ZAP has cleared the final regulatory hurdles for sale in the United States. ZAP also announced that it has in-hand over three-quarters of a billion dollars in advance purchase orders for the fuel-efficient microcar from Europe.

ZAP CEO Steve Schneider made the announcement at an event held in Santa Ana, California, home of the facility where ZAP has the European-made Smart Car converted to meet all American emissions and safety standards. Mr. Schneider formally handed the keys to of the first Americanized Smart Car to Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido at City Hall, who then took the unique coupe on a celebratory test drive to the Smart Car conversion facility three miles away, at G&K Automotive Conversions. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the facility, and a parade of Smart Cars was rolled out for attending news media representatives.

"ZAP is thrilled to announce that with the receipt of an official letter of notification from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Smart Car has now received all federal approvals necessary for sale in the United States," said Mr. Schneider. "This is the final step in ZAP's initiative to create an advanced transportation distribution network to meet the growing demand by American consumers for automobiles that will meet their transportation needs while cutting gas expenditures, and also helping to reduce polluting emissions. Dealers have been clamoring for more energy-efficient vehicles options, and ZAP is preparing to supply them from various manufacturers."

ZAP has received more than three-quarters of a billion dollars in orders from American dealer orders for the Smart Car high-efficiency automobile, already as successful product in several countries internationally. The letter from the U.S. Department of Transportation acknowledged a certificate of compliance that lifts a Performance Bond, allowing the import and certification of the Smart Car. ZAP recently announced that the Smart Car had received a Letter of Conformity from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency, and the announcement today clears the car for sale in 45 U.S. states.

"ZAP has been given the green light to begin delivering Smart Cars in the U.S., and we will be making subsequent announcements regarding these deliveries," said Mr. Schneider. "ZAP will be delivering a small number of cars initially as we evaluate how to meet the demand by U.S. dealers--more than three-quarters of a billion dollars in advance purchase orders--much more than we anticipated. The Federal government is satisfied now that ZAP's conversion partners have finalized the manufacturing process by which we can 'Americanize' the cars. Now we can start addressing the dealer infrastructure that would allow us to deliver cars to the public, while taking the time to ensure that we have adequate sales and service support to handle this volume of cars."

ZAP has recently reported increasing volumes of dealer purchase orders for the Smart car, a Mercedes-built vehicle that's one of the most efficient gas-powered cars manufactured. Last week, ZAP announced receipt of a total of over half a billion dollars in U.S. dealer purchase orders. ZAP owns the technology to Americanize the Smart car to meet U.S. emissions and safety standards, and holds all licensing rights from non-affiliated Smart-Automobile LLC to conduct the Smart car Americanization.

Once ZAP finalizes the required strategic partnerships and has received approval for additional models from government agencies, it will determine its specific delivery schedule for Smart Cars in the United States.

Allpennystocks dot com featured an article with ZAPZ. This is the brief with link to full info.

Wilkins notes that not since the splitting of the atom has something so small created such a stir - to the point where its manufacturer, DaimlerChrysler, is investing as much emotional and financial capital to build and promote the Smartcar. The vehicle's ergonomic and fuel efficiencies have turned heads worldwide, particularly in Europe, where city roads are narrower than in North America. Its emissions, or lack thereof, have environmentally-minded consumers exhaling (and inhaling) sighs of relief. ZAP, the Santa Rosa, California-based company that has pioneered advanced transportation and energy technologies, and which owns the technology to "Americanize" the Smartcar to meet federal emissions and safety standards, has announced that advanced purchase orders for the German-built microcoupe have recently topped the Three-quarter-billion mark in the United States alone, or about $750 million worth.

Wilkins also points out that in late April, ZAP demonstrated where that technology was leading, when CEO Steve Schneider took Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Palido on a test drive from City Hall about three miles (five kilometres), to the companys conversion facility on South Birch Street. The demonstration was aimed at pointing up how little the fuel gauge needle moved, and how clean the Santa Ana air stayed. It was just before the two got into the Smartcar that Schneider announced that his company had cleared the final regulatory hurdle to sell the Smartcar in 45 American states. It could prove to be a major turning point for the company, transforming its stock into investment vehicles just as exciting as the "green" motorized ones the firm produces currently.

Latest news is that ZAP ordered $1 billion worth of cars based on pre-orders and Smart won't sell them to ZAP - ZAP just proved to Daimler Crysler that it was worth importing the Smart to the US and they will be importing them themselves apparently. Bad in the short term for ZAP - the fuel cell technolology is the long term future of ZAP, so this setback should provide a buying op.

Press Release Source: ZAP

ZAP to Roll Out Smart Cars to Dealers in Eight More U.S. States
Thursday June 9, 6:00 am ET
ZAP Prepares Distribution Plans for Fuel-Efficient Automobiles

SANTA ROSA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2005--ZAP (OTCBB:ZAPZ - News), pioneering the next generation of advanced transportation and energy technologies, announced today it would be delivering U.S. certified Smart Cars Americanized by ZAP to qualified dealers in eight U.S. states. All vehicles have been paid for and are in ZAP's current inventory of Smart Cars purchased from suppliers not affiliated with DaimlerChrysler and/or smart GmbH.

One of the most fuel-efficient internal combustion cars in the world, the Smart Car ForTwo Coupe is already sold in Europe, Canada and other countries. ZAP says a model of the car is now fully compliant with federal safety and emissions standards, and fully compliant for sales in 45 U.S. States. Excluded are California and four other states that follow different emissions testing procedures, which are not yet completed.

The eight dealers will be announced individually as part of ZAP's marketing launch in each of the respective markets. The states where these dealers will be located include Connecticut, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Texas and Washington. In a ceremony last month, ZAP delivered the first Smart Car Americanized by ZAP through an authorized dealership in Reno to a Nevada purchaser.

ZAP is establishing a distribution portal and hub of automotive dealerships that cater to car-buyers looking for the next generation in automotive fuel technologies, including energy efficient, low-emission and advanced technologies. The Smart Car is one of several vehicles ZAP is developing to offer through this distribution network.

About ZAP

ZAP, Zero Air Pollution®, has been a leader in advanced transportation technologies and energy products since 1994. ZAP has a 10-year license to the technology developed by Smart-Automobile LLC to Americanize the popular European-made Smart Car for the U.S. marketplace. ZAP Americanizes the Smart Car to meet U.S. federal and state safety and emissions standards. The Smart Car is manufactured by global automotive company DaimlerChrysler. ZAP purchases its vehicles from non-affiliated direct importer Smart-Automobile LLC.
