EGLF - one to keep an eye on this week...

The upcoming 'Space Shot' from the Space Station (ISS) could be the BIG media event of the year... definitely a well-planned promotional effort by the company... no small feat to get NASA to allow an astronaut to whack a golf ball into space using one of their clubs!...lol

Expect it to get all kinds of 'free' press coverage from news, sports, talk networks, etc... similar to ETIM... plus the company's filming the event for a one-of-a-kind 'space' commercial...

You can bet the company's marketing ppl have plans to exploit this to the fullest before the Thankgiving 'Space Shot'...

Space station golf stunt approved by NASA
16:17 23 August 2006

Two golf balls will soon be hit into Earth orbit from the International Space Station
for a television commercial.

The plan, brokered between the Russian space agency and Element 21 Golf Company, based in Toronto, Canada, was announced earlier this year (see Astronauts plan the biggest golf drive in history) http://www.newscientistspace.com/article/dn8791.html

At the time, some experts said there was a small chance the ball could come back and strike the station while in orbit, potentially causing catastrophic damage, and NASA had not approved the plan.

Now NASA has rubber-stamped the stunt after determining that the 3-gram golf balls will pose no threat to the ISS. "The big picture is we have determined that there is no impact to crew or vehicle safety in performing this experiment," says NASA's deputy ISS manager, Kirk Shireman.

One-handed swing
The drives will be made by cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin, who is set to launch to the station on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft in about a month.

During a spacewalk planned for November, Tyurin will be filmed as he makes the shots from a special platform outside the station. There, a custom-built tee will use two springs to keep the ball from floating away.

The cosmonaut is a golf novice and was tutored in July by a golf instructor and Carol Mann, a retired professional golfer.

He will also make the one-handed swings while wearing a bulky Russian Orlan spacesuit, hampering the power of his drives and lessening the potential risk to the station. "It's not like Tiger Woods taking a drive," Shireman notes.

Tyurin will also hit the balls in the opposite direction from the station's direction of travel, and space debris experts say the balls' possible trajectories will not endanger the station. The golf balls will not be a hazard for any upcoming shuttle, Soyuz or Progress cargo ship flights either, Shireman says.

Spare seat
The balls will be too small for ground radar to track their flight, but NASA estimates that they will burn up in the Earth's atmosphere within three days.

Tyurin and commander Michael Lopez-Alegria of the US will launch to the ISS in a Soyuz rocket from Kazakhstan as early as 14 September.

Japanese tourist Daisuke Enomoto was supposed to accompany them on their flight, but he failed recent medical tests (see Japan's would-be space tourist fails medical). US businesswoman Anousheh Ansari, one of the sponsors of the X-Prize, will go in his place and will become the first female space tourist.

The planned golf shots would not be the first extra-terrestrial golf. On 6 February 1971, Alan Shephard, the first US astronaut in space, ended a Moonwalk by hitting two balls for "miles and miles and miles".

I'm a newbie, and hope I play this one right. maybe try my first flip on this stock,
And also hope I do not sell too early, before the peak, nor too late on the decline.
I guess no one has that crystal ball.
Everyone good luck.

I now see how the MM's work.
They lowered the price to a place where no one can sell for a profit.
Now I bought at 26 last Thursday, now its 20 cents.
I knew I shouldn't have chased it.
Dang it.
Tee that sucker off so i can dump it.

I wouldn't give up on it yet. This will be a news-driven play. Expect it to go up before and after Thanksgiving when the event actually takes place. (Is the market opened on the Friday after Thanksgiving?)

E21 Golf Company Space Shot: 3 Days or 3 Years in Orbit
11/10/2006

TORONTO, Nov 10, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) --
Element 21 Golf Company ("E21") (OTCBB: EGLF) & (FRANKFURT: BJQ) reported new analysis of the trajectory for its golf ball which will be hit off the International Space Station, some 360 miles above the Earth, this coming Thanksgiving Day by cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin.

New orbit trajectory calculations by Russian scientists contradict NASA's original projections that the golf ball will orbit the earth for approximately 3 days, and suggest a 3 1/2 year orbit is more likely, as the ball will descend by a few yards a day. Earlier this year similar sources speculated that the ball may collide with the International Space Station with a force of a 40,000 lbs truck moving at 100 miles per hour. The Company will be analyzing the data to reconcile the large discrepancy, and hopes to put the trajectory calculations up on its website for wider review.

Traveling at 6 miles per second, the golf ball is expected to reach the billion mile mark before its orbit eventually decays, and the ball burns up in the atmosphere. "This will easily become the longest golf shot recorded on our solar system. It would be an even longer shot, but for the fact that it is being hit behind the space station, and therefore will have slightly lower initial velocity than the space station itself," noted E21 Golf Company spokesman, Executive Vice President and General Manager Bill Dey. "It's probably going to be the longest shot in the galaxy, but we didn't want to overstate things."

Mikhail Tyurin is actually not an experienced golfer, but has been coached by such golf luminaries as LPGA Hall of Fame golfer Carol Mann and PGA Director of Instruction Rick Martino here on Earth, he also received a little more untraditional practice underwater in full space suit regalia, using only one hand, to simulate the limitations of the space environment.

"On a more serious note, this will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the time astronaut Alan Shepard hit golf balls on the moon during the Apollo 14 mission, one of the most enduring images of space exploration. While Alan Shepard's original Moon Shot, only traveled 206 yards, it is highly unlikely that the Space Station shot will eclipse that moment in terms of drama and meaning, even though it completely overshadows it in length. At best, we can remind people of that wonderful moment 35 years ago."

"We were drawn to the idea by the fact that our Patented Scandium Metal Alloy clubs are literally an outgrowth of rocket science. Scandium is in use on the space station, and first caught the scientific community's attention when it was employed on Russia's famed MiG jets."

Applied to the Golf industry, E21's unique patented Scandium Metal Alloy offers unparalled performance in terms of consistency, feel and accuracy, and represents the first new advanced material to be employed in Golf equipment in decades.

About Element 21 Golf Company:

E21 holds the exclusive right to manufacture golf products using proprietary E21 Scandium Metal Alloys. Through a sophisticated multi-technology production path, E21 manufactures shafts, drivers, and other clubs with marked improvements in distance, accuracy and feel over competing products. In recent months a number of high profile golf professionals have switched to or began testing E21's Eagle One shafts. E21 Scandium products are 55% lighter and offers 25% strength to weight advantage over Titanium alloys, the current standard in the golf equipment industry. The advanced dynamics of E21 Alloys and the material economics offer a performance-enhanced alternative to manufacturing driver clubs with Titanium, the largest segment of the annual $5.5 billion U.S. golf equipment marketplace.

E21 recently announced its "Golf Shot Around the World Mission" in celebration of the 35th anniversary of Alan B. Shepard Jr.'s historic Apollo 14 Mission. Just about every single record for distance in the golf industry will be shattered this fall when an astronaut will hit a golf ball into orbit around the earth -- using an E21 golf club. It is only natural that this event takes place on the International Space Station, considering that E21 Alloys are also used on the Space Station in high strength, fatigue resistant applications.

I bought at .20 last week and sold * .24 (huge gain, I know).
This is a total hype play- which i dont mind, I've made money on momo's and hypes.
What scares me a little about this stock is the company's financials- 52K for fiscal year ending June 30, 2006.
Not bashing, just expressing some concern. And I hasten to add that I may well be playing this one again before the big event.
Any opinions?

I'm a newbie so your post helps me to understand these "one shot" deals.
I guess I jumped in too early.
I wanted to buy at 20 the other morning but scottrade note came up saying i had to call in the order.
3 hours later i tried again on the inet and sure enough the sale went through at the peak that day 26 cents.
Then it dropped the next to 20 cents.
now I'm just going to hold it and ad if it goes back to 22 on friday or monday.
I'm just looking for my first double bagger.
do you think frioday will be the big sell off or monday may see some action as well?

Honestly- if i were holding shares at a .26 average I would either average down (.20-.22 range). Or, look for an exit point wed or thurs (above .26 of course. Then buy back fri eod, as alot of traders don't like to hold BB's over the weekend.
IMO, youre gonna turn a profit- just be patient.
After last week's gains I expected a healthy pullback and some congestion. Just my opinion, but I think we're almost guaranteed another run before the event. At that point take profits, and ride some freebies into the new year.

Well, we closed right on the MA10 and formed a nice hammer. Volume has steadily declined. Obviously today there was more selling pressure than buying pressure. But the decline in vol could be an indicator that more people are holding, which creates a healthy standoff between us and the MM's.
We have alot of press yet to come.
I agree paulbest- fri eod should be buy time.

For this one, I'd compare it to ETIM. Next week, with the holiday, it'll be a slow news week for networks. There will be all kinds of feel-good stories, and EGLF will be one of them. Look, it's already hit USAToday today. Some folks probably haven't even looked at their USA Today yet.

Next, it will be on all the networks. Might be this weekend, maybe not until midweek. But if you get out today and the publicity tour starts tommorrow, it's going to be pretty hard to get back in.

Russian Space Agency Confirms Green Light for E21 Golf Company Golf Shot in Space
4:10 p.m. 11/17/2006 Provided By Market Wire

TORONTO, Nov 17, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Element 21 Golf Company ("E21") (EGLF) (FRANKFURT: BJQ) reports the announcement by Igor Panarin, spokesman for the Russian Space Agency, that a cosmonaut at the International Space Station (ISS) will play golf in outer space and in zero gravity conditions for the first time in history.

The space golf shot is scheduled for the night of November 22 at between 6 pm to 7 pm (EST) while technically a day later at 2 am - 3 am (Moscow time), paying tribute to an American astronaut Alan Shepard Jr., who played golf on the Moon in 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission.

Mr. Panarin disclosed that: "During his space walk, Mikhail Tyurin will send a ball in the direction opposite to the ISS, so the golf ball will go into its orbit safely below the space station. This was one of the conditions set by NASA to allow the longest golf shot to take place on ISS."

Tyurin's partner on the 14th international mission to the ISS, American Michael Lopez-Alegria, will photograph and videotape the moment reported RIA News Agency in Moscow today following the Russian Space Agency press conference. Major Russian newspaper MK, with circulation of about 800,000 copies a day, posted calculations suggesting several years in orbit.

Russian experts and NASA confirm that golf ball will pose no danger to the ISS or orbiting satellites. The golf ball will become one of the smallest tracked human-made satellites orbiting the earth. Its orbit will decay either after 3 days or 3.5 - 4 years in orbit, depending on whether NASA or Russian Space experts are correct.

E21 management is betting on the extensive analysis of the Russian Space Agency. Dr. Nataliya Hearn noted: "We were evaluating taking out a $75 million dollar insurance policy just to be safe. However, we're pretty confident that Mikhail won't have to take a 'mulligan.' LPGA Hall of Fame golfer Carol Mann and PGA Director of Instruction Rick Martino have coached Mikhail down here on Earth. He may not be ready to break 100 on a real golf course, but we're pretty confident that he's going to break all distance records this Thanksgiving Day."

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., Nov 17 (Reuters) - Never mind that he has played golf only twice in his life. Next week the Russian flight engineer aboard the International Space Station will hit a drive that even Tiger Woods couldn't match.

Cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin plans to begin a spacewalk set for Wednesday evening by knocking a lightweight golf ball off a tee placed on the top of the Russian docking port.

"I play ice hockey and my understanding is that it is very similar," Tyurin said in an interview during which he discussed the stunt, part of the Russian space agency's quest for commercial contributions.

Club maker Element 21 Golf Co. (EGLF.OB: Quote, Profile, Research) of Toronto is paying the Russians an undisclosed amount for Tyurin's time, which included plenty of practice swings aboard the space station.

"Of course the crew is taking this very, very seriously so they've been doing a lot of practice," said NASA flight director Holly Ridings.

Federal law bars the U.S. space agency from getting any money for its involvement.

NASA held up the golf shot for months while safety experts pored over possible flight paths for the ball to make sure it would not head back toward the station as a dangerous bit of orbital debris.

"No question it's safe," Tyurin said before his flight. Continued...

But you missed the best news.
21 hired this sales guy from a big golf club co for north america operations.
IOW they plan to get moving.
What I'm not sure about is , so this 21 club is lighter by weight, is this a big deal? How much does Tommy Armour's clubs/better clubs weigh in at?
how much do 21 clubs weigh by comparison.
If ture, how will golfers respond.
Price differentials.
I'm not sure how many golfers are going to give up their fav clubs for "a new kid on the block".

Now if one of the top golfers to endorse it, that might make some noise.

Anything you can find, please post

I've been looking into the history of this "space golf shot" event. It seems it was originally scheduled to happen on June 1st of this year, but was cancelled (article here)
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/31/science/space/31station.html?ex=1306728000&en= 726ae7f094442244&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss.

At the time the announcements of the cancellation came out, the stock price was .14-.15 cents. But it didn't seem to tank after the cancellation announcement and actually went up to .205 over the next few days. It's been pretty steady .16-.19 ever since then until lately when there has been a spike due to all the publicity about the "space shot".

In the CEO's audiocast (I posted the link above), also says they will be attending the PGA Show in late January 2007. Looking back at the charts for late January 2006, I see the stock had spiked to .43 then. They were exhibitors at the 2006 PGA Show then too.
List of exhibitors

When I first saw this stock, I considered it a one time play for the publicity of the "space shot", but perhaps there will be another play in mid-January for the PGA Show as well.
