Gov. Phil Bryant signed a bill into law Friday which expands Mississippi’s permitless carry options and allows churches to designate members to carry firearms to protect the congregation.

Mississippians can now conceal carry a pistol in a belt holster or a shoulder holster without the need for a state issued permit. Great news for those of us in the magnolia state.

In Kansas you can carry without a permit. Just have to be 21 or older, and be legal to do so. Meaning no felons, or domestic abuse. Kansas still issues permits to residents, and that is for taking out of state to reciprocal states.

"compelling govt interest" ? got any idea what that means?
the way i read it? i can use any plant i want if it's in my religion and there's quite few native American plantsacraments that are illegal...
sacrifice a few animals? no problem, right?
but it also allows a person to discriminate based on religous beleifs. it MAY even be a defense for the people who assassinate abortionists... Mormons? they been discrimanted against polygamy. is that allowed now?

AH- this is the new one...and yes, straight up it is in violation of Federal law and legalises discrimination period. It's not even close to walkiing on the middle line, it's all the way into the right hand shoulder.
BTW? I beleive that marriage is a form of incorporation, and any *ADULT* can do it, even 50 people.
seriously, anybody who's ever gotten a divorce or had premarital sex can be fired for it if the employers so beleives... and who the hell knows what somebody really beleives in the theri heart anyway?

here it is in B&W; The state government shall not take any discriminatory action against a person wholly or partially on the basis that the person has provided or declined to provide the following services, accommodations, facilities, goods, or privileges for a purpose related to the solemnization, formation, celebration, or recognition of any marriage, based upon or in a manner consistent with a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction described in Section 3 of this act

basically, anyone who can't do their job can't have that job. but hell, that's just my opinion, and the fact that it's conservative in nature is ironic huh? LOL-
Any person employed or acting on behalf of the state government who has authority to perform or solemnize marriages, including, but not limited to, judges, magistrates, justices of the peace or their deputies, may seek recusal from performing or solemnizing lawful marriages based upon or in a manner consistent with a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction described in Section 3 of this act.

The only thing it does is keep govt from going after businesses who refuse to host gay weddings... Not that big a deal really. Especially considering the commie bastions like New York have the same law.
Look I'm just pissed that Bryan Adams isn't coming to Ms... I've been in tears since his announcement. Honestly, is life worth living without Bryan Adams??
I say possibly not.

Bryan Adams cancelled his tour date in Mississippi? Quite tragic indeed, I'm sure that will be a massive blow to whatever bingo hall or high school gym he managed to hustle his crappy band into...

I'm sure it is tripping the circuit breakers at Ticketmaster, massive chaos from the fallout of the unexpected cancellation. Bryans crack team is most likely in full blown damage control at the Bryan Adams world headquarters.

actually it keeps the State out of *any* disputes over it. So if someone has a dispute, they have to go Federal. Which is one hellofalot more expensive. so, as i said, the State has legalised discrimination again.... MS has really bad social and economic problems. First adn foremost MS can't keep it's children here even after they get a State sponsored university degree, and this is why. You live down by the coast right? The coast is nothing like the rest of the whole state... It is much more hospitable to non-conformists. Mostly cuz they want tourism dollars, which will be going elsewhere because of this, as will moviemakers.

Yup, the coast is reasonably 1st world. But so is much of the rest of the state.
I wouldn't worry about movies not being produced in the state. As always happens when the left wing idiots get in a tizzy over something they can't understand... They forget.
Just like the hordes of idiots that threatened to leave the country if Bush got elected.
Who actually left? Jonny Depp...
And the world keeps spinning.

i have (from a very reliable source) been told that Phil's son is, let's say a Friend of Dorothy, and follows Lou Reed's motto of walking the wild side..... what do you expect from a family that comes from Moorehead MS?

i rarely reject notions rentless. i tend to to be open to new idea and even try them out as if i beleve them. MS is fifty years behind the rest of the country on social issues. I live in the worst of it within the state (as i think you know) and you probably live in the best of it (within the state) but my kids live in starkville and oxford and they also recognise that even at the liberal bastions of enlightenment in MS, the state is in severe deficit of enlightenment.
There are things i like here. I bought 20 acres of nice land with a comfortable house for the cost of an unimproved lot in a bad neighborhood where i grew up.... the fact that i can even if don't carry in my shoulder hoslter without a permit is another thing. the new law was unnecessary and even though i am southern by both sides of my family, i still get caeed a yankee here because i don't openly use racist epithets and i consider gay folks to be actual people deserving respect.
i realise you see do something differnt, but i don't think you live in representative area of MS....

during the civil war, people in MS starved rather than surrender to the north even though they had been whooped bad and were hopelessly besieged. Stubbornness is not really a bad character trait under most circumstances IMO. I respect stubbornness but when stubbornness becomes counterproductive, it's just an expression of self-loathing... that's how i see MS

It is your perception that is different. Not what you/I are witnessing.
You elude to racial issues. Sadly this board is not a place where a frank discussion about race can be had considering it's long history of fear induced censorship. But, I'll give it a little poke just for giggles. Ha.. edit.. no I won't. This board can't deal with my opinion on that subject.

I have a pretty broad experience range that includes spending alot of time where i am the one who is the minority. The PI, Japan and Mexico. Um - i was prolly in the minority when i lived in HI and SoCali too...
