Bill Clinton Takes On Paul Ryan’s Medicare Lies: ‘It Takes Some Brass’
By Annie-Rose Strasser on Sep 5, 2012 at 11:34 pm

Bill Clinton singlehandedly dismantled the Romney-Ryan campaign narrative that President Obama is trying to put an end to Medicare at the Democratic Convention Wednesday night, pointing out that it is in fact the Romney-Ryan proposal for Medicare that would permanently change the program to a depreciating voucher system. “It takes some brass,” Clinton said, “to attack a guy for doing what you did”:

First, Both Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan attacked the President for allegedly robbing medicare of $716 billion. But it is not true.[...]

So, President Obama and the Democrats did not weaken Medicare. They strengthened Medicare. When Congressman Ryan looked into that TV camera and attacked President Obama’s Medicare savings as “the biggest, coldest power play,” I did not know whether to laugh or cry. Key cuts that $716 billion is exactly to the dollar the same amount of medicare savings that he had in his own budget. It takes some brass to attack a guy for doing what you did.

ANALYSIS: Charles Krauthammer Calls Clinton DNC Address “One of the Strangest Nomination Speeches Ever Given”

Charles Krauthammer spoke with Bret Baier and Megyn Kelly after Bill Clinton’s DNC speech and did not hold back in his critique of the former commander in chief’s remarks. “I think he struck out on this,” Krauthammer said. “I don’t think he moved the needle whatsoever.”

Krauthammer went on to call his nearly 50-minute speech sprawling, undisciplined and truly self-indulgent. “It was one of the strangest nomination speeches ever given,” he said. “It sounded like a campaign speech for a third Clinton term.”

This debate over medicare and who did what to it is the epitome of stupid. There is virtually no answer for medicare. It is campaign bee-ess. Medicare will not and cannot be a viable program long term. The same is true for Social Security and all other "communistic" government program. These programs have helped many, many, people but they are communistic and like all things communistic ultimately they drain the citizenry. Those that have benefited from these types of programs over the last 80 or so years since FDR just got lucky to have lived in this era. They won the lottery with a ticket their posterity has yet to buy....

In order for medicare to work the economy has to be excellent with private sector jobs(government jobs actually detract from medicare) just waiting to be filled. Then you have to have a very healthy replinishment rate for the populace....that is the other reason these programs are doomed. We are not procreating enough to fill the jobs (that don't exist, btw)so that our government can tax the income (that they are not making) and redistribute to the "entitled" (that never really were entitled).

Its amazing that people still want to believe in these fairy tales....its friggin math...thats all. These programs are not economic principles or theory (that chit IS hard)....its just math.

Many of the ideas had merit when conceived; namely Social Security. The depression warranted a tad socialism to secure the general welfare. However, such policies should have been dated and dismantled once the menace was gone. Unfortunately, they were allowed to linger. The effect has been the atrophy of the American spirit....millions upon millions of persons that would not know how to live without a government to take care of them....an entire generation of the pathetic. Sadly, I am a part of that generation and I resent it.

There are Dems, Repubs, and Libertarians on this board. There are even a few that get their rocks off by masquerading as something they are not for the sake of argument (think that is the def of a troll). But make no mistake there are only 2 enemies to be concerned with. The first is this HUGE AZZ ALL POWERFUL GOVERNMENT that we have allowed. The other are the Political whores that use legislation and devisivness as tools to force us feed the very government that would oppress us. Forget about party....its politicians, period.

Here is a word to brush up on if you are not familiar, "Efficacy."

The idea of personal efficacy is the stitching that holds the fabric of America together. Most people could not define efficacy. But they can sense it. Perhaps they can not put it into words but if you strip them of it, they know....and they start getting very very pissed.

That is why we have started seeing these groups....Tparty, Occupy, etc.... People are mad because they realize something has either changed or is on the precipice of changing....

"Of the People, By the People, and FOR THE PEOPLE"

That last part may or may not be dead...if it ain't dead yet the prognosis aint lookin to hot.

Very soon....

"Of the People, By the Politician, FOR THE GOVERNMENT"

Your party matters not....if you can't see this coming or you are okay with this coming then you have no American spirit left and......you are a modern day Loyalist....and yes, there is a huge difference.

there is another historical possibly more accurate name for the internet troll, they used to call these people devil's advocates. and in smart royal courts the Royalty hired people to contradict the king all the time. they were immune form all social rules. but hey had to be smart, and they had to be honest. this allowed the King to watch his subjects for signs of diloyalty. they are often portrayed as fools or "small people" i dunno what's PC for a midget these days but out of respect for Frodo i'll be polite [Big Grin]

Hehe....sure, glass. If you find something worth stealing you are welcome to it. I don't post much for many reasons....I learn a lot from you guys by reading, reflecting, and keeping my mouth closed....I find it difficult to be concise or properly convey thoughts on this new fangled internet medium (I am the most antiquated 34 year old I have ever even heard of)....and I haven't had internet in my home for 3 years or television for more like 7 years. That means I am doing this at work when I am being paid to work....doesn't afford me much time for responses...and makes me feel like a thief.

Have to disagree rounder. With the math and with the opinions.

I don't mind the efficacy idea but again I disagree on the grounds that I think you have oversimplified. Self-Efficacy is not an inherent or instinctual trait. It is a learned behavior, one that requires strong education, strength of will, and an opportunity to achieve.

As to your thoughts on social programs. You have used the statistics born of the baby boomer generation to skew the numbers. Gen Y will also have that affect to a lesser degree. Generational fluctuations. That coupled with the establishment of the medical industry and medical insurance which put a layer of separation between full cost and industry development over-grew medical advancement. Not a bad thing, but now we have entered a period where we need to refine what we have learned and pay for past advancements.

I do not believe you fully comprehend just how much social programs have lifted the base level standard of living in this country. I can not see how you would hold the opinions you do if you did. Before social security 8 out of every 10 adults ended their American Dream in poverty. No means to support themselves, get medical care, or pass anything on to the next generation except the burden of caring for them if they could. The social net is the most powerful creation of the government.

As to the size of government, it isn't our taxes that creates big government. Our taxes have rarely been lower in the modern era and yet the 'idea' of big government just keeps growing. It is the money on the outside of government that has grown government. We the people create it that way. We the people want it big and we the people feed it to be sure it is larger than all our ideological foes. As long as we have big corporations, big non-profit institutions (both church and other), big military presence, and big world wide influence we the people will not allow our government to be reduced if it means reducing the influence of our chosen dogma. It is a mirror of ourselves and if it is ugly then we had best do some soul searching for the reflection is not warped.

many people do not understand where we have come form big.. when i was kid i listened to my granparents alot. i get my intense desire to share ideas from them... they were very afraid of what they saw growing up inthe depression. they died with lots of cash, yet they were never really able to enjoy it becuase they were so afraid of dying poor and having to be taken care of by us kids... they took care of their parents and i never could understadn quite why they were so afraid of being taken care of..

my grandad told me about having to shoot people with rock salt and pepper corns in 12 and ten guage -full loads of powder- who were trying to steal their chickens.. they'd not bother to go looking for them after they shot, they'd all just watch to see who was messed up the next week....

they lived in MD not far from DC, they actually had it really good compared to where i now live--

alot of notherners don't ever see the kind of poverty i see every day here still.... and yes the people in poverty are the only ones who can really get themselves out of it, but there are things the rest of us can do to make it possible for them to get out... those things have not been done well or even at all here and in many ways the system here has been designed to make sure they cannot....

the thing that is making me CRAZY mad her it he abuse of the granting and promotional systemhere by the already wealthy.. it is frigin criminal waste fraud and abuse

it's too darn bad we got the dumb brother in 2000, for that i blame karl Rove and dick cheney:

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush took to Twitter today to try and clarify some of the remarks he made Monday that were critical of the Republican Party.

“The point I was making yesterday is this: The political system today is hyperpartisan. Both sides are at fault,” Jeb Bush tweeted Tuesday.

On Monday, Bush said that both Ronald Reagan and his father, George H.W. Bush, would have a hard time getting nominated by the more conservative voters in today’s Republican Party.

BTW? i have no excuses. i just have real bad typing skills, there was a time when i went back and fixed most of the errors, and then i got lazy, and for that i apologise.
i have great hand eye coordination but typing is just somethign i've never been able to master. i am actually proud that i can now sit and write 30 pages a day or more and do so frequently, but not here, obviously. Editing it is a nightmare and takes nearly as long as it does to write it down..

Clinton is just another one of those guys that wants all the attention as many times as he can get it.

I just can't figure why the party would waste ther time on him, seems like they would have had a better ace in the whole.

Reminds me of Edward Kennedy, at least Clintons fling or flings didn't kill anyone,he just perjured himself.

What i don't get is how any party can argue unemployment and think there are possitve signs.

Do they think we are all dumb?

All we have to do is asked people(friends) that have kids or themselves that have to look for jobs and see what they say, or look at the amount of vacant commercial buildings, that will give you a pretty good idea about the labor market.

Why do i need the politicians BS to think things are getting better, maybe we want to believe it.

Our choices suck, lets hope our country can fix itself because it ain't coming from either of these candidates or parties.

Do i need four more years of one or four years of another to see the results, it's like hitting you hand with a hammer then saying, i don't know if that hurt maybe i should do it again to see,

I guess the good part of these elections, if there is one, is that for a short time we have a few more people employed.

Wrong. When Clinton was in office, it was some of the best times the US has seen in a long time economically. But since you were an admittedly GOP flunkie at that time, I'll give you a pass on that ridiculous post. And it doesn't matter whether you think Clinton was or was not responsible for that prosperity, he was in office during it. Can you honestly say the US was not better off when he was in office? Wasn't there a surplus that Bush immediately destroyed as soon as he got in office?

Songwriters: REID, VERNON / GLOVER, COREY / CALHOUN, WILL / SKILLINGS, MUZZY

And during the few moments that we have left
We wanna talk right down to Earth in a language that everybody here can easily understand

Look in my eyes, what do you see?
The cult of personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
I've been everything you want to be
I'm the cult of personality
Like Mussolini and Kennedy
I'm the cult of personality
The cult of personality
The cult of personality

Neon lights, a Nobel prize
Than the mirror speaks, the reflection lies
You won't have to follow me
Only you can set me free
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/l/living+colour/cult+of+personality_20084475.html ]
I sell the things you need to be
I'm the smiling face on your tv
I'm the cult of personality
I exploit you, still you love me
I tell you one and one makes three
I'm the cult of personality
Like Joseph Stalin and Gandhi
I'm the cult of personality
The cult of personality
The cult of personality

Neon lights, a Nobel prize
When a leader speaks, that leader dies
You won't have to follow me
Only you can set you free (?)

You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You gave me power in your god's name
I'm every person you need to be
I'm the cult of personality (I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of)
I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of (I'm the cult of)
I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of personality (I'm the cult of)
Ask not what your country can do for you

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself

What i don't get is how do him and his wife stay together, they both love the limelight and have that dominate personality.

Of course i am not sure they are really together as marriage or just convinence, probably none of my business anyway.

When i was talking about commercial building vacancies in Ca, maybe other states don't have as obvious a problem.

In Ca. if we lost CVS or Walgreens, which seem to pop up on every corner these days, we will probably have to use the old saying from the Seattle area in the 70-80's.

If Boeing leaves last one out turns out the lights, of course shorty after Microsoft entered the picture and all the companies needed to support them, so again ever thing changed.
