read about it, haven't read it.

The lady I read about, a pioneering urban homesteader, summed it up as sumpin' like, "It's too late to save the Earth we knew--our challenge now is to learn to live in this new place."

Saw the author on Letterman Tuesday night. He came off as a bit of a "fringe" guy but he was interesting to listen to.

I think Tex pretty much summed up the premise of it. We waited too long and climate change is now a simple fact. The challenge is no longer how to reverse it, rather to accept it, adapt to it and still prosper. Should be interesting.

If that's truly our future I'm going to embrace it and hopefully mutate into a cricket. I'm now convinced that they're going to inherit the earth. I've had one in my garage all summer long and even though I've had him within stomping range numerous times, he always hops away. It's the only creature I know of that can broadcast its location all night long yet no harm comes to him.

Let me guess, Glenn Beck did this

Gosh, no--Beck is perfectly rational about climate change:

You know I am not big on the whole global warming thing. I like how they tried to get away from the taboo of the label and went with "climate change" to sound better.

I dont have a solid position either way. My view is that we should just say we need to take better care of the environment. Stop with the global warming hysteria, fixing numbers, making money off scaring the hell out of everyone, etc

Just say "hey lets take better care of the environment because its just the right thing to to" not make it some big global warming crusade. The label is what is killing the movement. Doesnt Al Gore fly around on a private jet giving speeches on carbon emissions and getting paid a lot of money for it?

Maybe you should have mentioned that to Bush when he backed out of the Kyoto treaties? Hmm?

I wish it were that simple cow. I really do. The human individual is capable enough, but for some reason the human animal as a collective has a horrible reputation of waiting until disastrous conditions occur before they take action unless forced to, especially where the environment is concerned. That's why the money is there. Make it desirable to conserve by rewarding the individuals and groups who do and maybe the whole system shifts in a more ecologically-friendly direction without having another river on fire or another near extermination of the Bald Eagle being required as a precipitating event.

And it still is global warming. GLOBALLY speaking we warm a little bit each year. However, the name was changed to Climate Change because most people just can't think on that scale. Instead they look out the window and say..."well, that snow out in the driveway doesn't look too warm to me!" Climate Change is also a better description of the fluctuations of temperature and weather conditions that will be exacerbated by a warmer global climate.

you guys must be bored to tears going on your rants...

that is Captialism, like it or not? People like to make money any friggin way they can.
not all Captialism is good, and of course not all of it is bad...

the hysteria that Gore produced is no worse than the oil co's trying to make sure we don't switch off their money train... it's just competition... competition is good...

one day we will NEED alternative energy and it won't be here if people don't get to work on it..

civilization has risen and fallen many times in our recorded history... it CAN again easier than ever before because we are so dependant on such a narrow set of commodities....
