if the "hidden oil" underneath the rockies is the shale oil? we have a long way to go before we have the technology to remove it safely and cheaply.


shale oil is a joke. the current plan to remove it involves freezing large areas of ground around the the "retort" and then melting the oil out of the shale in situ.. hot and cold engineering nightmares

that's just crazy. you don't have to be an "environmentalist" to see that it's BS

as for the Bakken reserves? they are being tapped.

Bakken leases are up for sale because medium size operators scrapped 08 and early 09 drilling plans because the price dropped so badly. Companies that operate on lending lost their rear ends for a bit as well.

Bakken oil is very good though. 41 gravity in many places, a very sweet light crude.

So why all this pressure to open up the Gulf to further rigs???
