That's a huge falsehood. All you need to do is read the preamble to the Constitution to see that it is.
Note that there is nothing at all in the reasons given by the founders for putting forth the Constitution that even hints that the it is a function of the Government to "protect us from foreign envaders", while most other functions of any government are therein specified.

In his country, the people formed the government and the people keep it that way. Bitterness because the government does not restrict itself exactly to the way you personally want it to be doesn't make it work at all.

Don't vote for anyone that is in office and don't vote for anyone new over someone already there are both rather simple minded. GWB was the one who was pushing for people to be able to invest part of they're social security into the markets. Can you imagine the impact that would have had if he had managed to get that passed with the current market situation? Social security would be up in smoke. Just look at your assertion that they set up our government so that government has no function other than protecting us from foreign invasion. The first thing they did in setting up our Government was to specify, first, that all the things listed the Preamble to the Constitution are specific and intended to be things the Government is to do, by order of the Cinstitution.
The founders had better sense than to set this Government up as a democracy. had they done so, it would never have reached the year 1800. They did set it up as a republic and it remains so, here and there altered by Constitutional amendment, with specific details to be specified by act of Congress, as they again directed, i.e,, as the founders intended.

This is an emergency, not something for which is is feasible to do the republican thing and stay the course.
One doesn't refuse to allow the fire department to put out fires because the price of diesel to get the trucks to the site is over $4 a gallon.
That just gets a lot of burned out houses without tenants from which the city looses the income from property taxes.
Think of it as an absolutely necessary investment, not an optional expense. If that doesn't work for you, then you are going to remain a pissed off bitter person.
