CHICAGO – Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday on charges of conspiring to get financial benefits through his authority to appoint a U.S. senator to fill the vacancy left by Barack Obama's election as president.
According to a federal criminal complaint, Blagojevich also was charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in the sale of Wrigley Field. In return for state assistance, Blagojevich allegedly wanted members of the paper's editorial board who had been critical of him fired.
A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.

BoA set to lose billions in business as Governor, President-elect show solidarity with workers
In a stinging note of support for the laid off workers that have taken up residency in Chicago's Republic Windows & Doors factory, the Governor of Illinois has suspended business with Bank of America until it reissues credit to the shuttered company.
Bank of America cut off credit to Republic Windows & Doors company last week, and workers, demanding severance pay, began staging sit-ins, effectively taking control of the building.

You really need to read the articles. He isn't Obama's pal. Of course that really doesn't matter to you.
"Nothing in the court papers suggested Obama had any part in the discussions or knew of them — something Fitzgerald repeatedly made clear at Tuesday's news conference.
In fact, Blagojevich was overheard complaining at one that Obama's people are "not going to give me anything except appreciation." He added: "(Expletive) them." Posts: 3255 | From: Los Angeles California | Registered: Jan 2006

That's funny you came up with the "coincidence" of these 2 events...We were watching the news tonite about the Governor getting arrested and my wife says "so why did this guy get in trouble for doing what all politicians are guilty of...to which I replied..."he stood up for the union workers and against the banks"...

Heads will roll in Illinois.
Obama will make it out untouched.
Just my opinion.
Good call SF. What an idiot. Makes me understand a bit more about one of my Illinois relatives who told me a couple months ago that he couldn't vote for any politician who came out of Chicago. I'd just guess from the way the US Attorney and the news are speaking about Illinois being the last holdout of mob style politicians that Blagojevich's won't be the last head to be served on a platter.

The last? No way.
Any one that thinks that simply hasn't payed attention to politics elsewhere.

Retracting statements when the going gets tough? Chicaco politics are the dirtiest among the dirty. Right up there with liberal Detroit. Liberal mayors smoking crack in Washington D.C. and getting re-elected? Left leaning Mayor of Detroit and his antics? Now this?
"President-elect Barack Obama’s ties to arrested Illinois Democratic Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich run primarily through Chicago slum lord and felon Tony Rezko."
I go to Iraq twice in a war against a man named Hussein, and now there is a Hussein in the White House. So weird....

No, what is weird is how ignorant and bigoted you are.
Neither Ronald Reagan nor his presidency had any resemblance to Woodrow Wilson or his presidency, in spite of the fact that Reagan's middle name was Wilson.
With no intent to besmirch the honor of your service there, the mere fact that you served in that war cannot be used to justify either the absolute illegality of the war or your claim of insight on political considerations derived via the experience.
Even beyond your capacity for dishonesty is the cheap cheesiness of your excuse for an intellect.

It was just another of your bigoted insane far right-wing assaults with absolutely no rationality or integrity, but 100% intended to spread hate and un-American filth.
I refer you to Colin Powell's, response about whether or not Obama's middle name is to be questioned and if there is a possibility Obama is a Muslim. As Powell said, this is America, what has his religion got to do with it?
You are the joke. And one that needs to be not repeated.
