If you "heard nothing close to a "great speech"...", then you weren't listening to them or you were denying reality.
If you mean you heard no one declare them to be great speeches and you listened, then you are in simple minded denial.
Each of those mentioned speeches was pronounced by party stalwarts of both parties, stalwarts who are recognized experts, and by completely independent students of the process, as great.
Maybe you only listened to Fat Rush or some of his ilk?

Obamas' speech was a great speech...it may have been rhetoric, we will see, made me think of King
This is a really fun race to watch..good entertainment. I hope Obama wins. just to see if he can accomplish any of his stated goals. McCain , we all know, will be just more of the same, with a little intelligence thrown in. if Obama wins..we will have more respect thoughout the world...and maybe we can handle problems with a little diplomacy and thoughtfulness..not with the tact of a charging rhino.

but that's their job budgee.
i think Obama gave a very good speech (not GREAT IMO) at mile-high... there were a few times where it was too ambiguous IMO... but?
what i saw all week was mostly alot of journalists congratulating each other and acting as if they are really important people...
in other words? the media has overextended it's self-importance in general...
Fox "News" more or less started this and it's becoming a market-wide self-indulgent orgy now...
it occurred to me after Tim Russert died that the media itself has become a victim of it's own "spin"... that opinion is not intended to take away from Tim's career, but the point is that the news is what is important, not the people selling it.

Yes, but discounting it just because it is your doctors job, when he tells you you have a serious heart condition isn't terribly wise.

I watched the DNC and I thought it was very interesting.
I also liked Obama's speach I thought he said a lot.
New tax codes, social security, creating new industries for energy, changing bankruptcy laws, and health care issues
The reason you are voting is for yourself not for the benifit of the person running.

Nancy Pelosi: "I am very proud of the Democrats in Congress."
Never mind that no Congress in the past 20 years has passed fewer public laws than this one, according to the Wall Street Journal. How could they?
They are spending one quarter of their work week debating and passing symbolic measures such as creating National Watermelon Month. The Journal says no Congress in the past two decades has proposed more symbolic resolutions than this one -- 1,900, for those of you keeping score at home.
Michelle Obama: "That's why I left a job at a law firm for a career in public service, working to empower young people to volunteer in their communities."
Michelle Obama's chosen career path led her to make $275,000 per year at a private hospital. Is that really a "public service" job?
It seems to me that a Republican wouldn't be able to get away with such a generous assessment of their résumé. They would surely be harassed for making a six-figure salary inside the evil health care industry, while millions suffer without insurance.
But hey, there's nothing wrong with making money, at least to me. And remember, she didn't say she was volunteering. She said she was "working to empower young people to volunteer," which is totally different.
Hillary Clinton: "John McCain doesn't think that 47 million people without health insurance is a crisis."
She must have missed the update that this number dropped by over a million. While it's still too high, I doubt she would have missed the news if it had risen.
She also missed, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, that 37 percent of the uninsured live in households making more than $50,000 a year, most of which can afford health insurance.
Twenty percent aren't even citizens of this country. One in three are eligible for government insurance, but aren't enrolled. So, while our health care is far from perfect, it's much better than Hillary wants you to believe.
Joe Biden: "Even today, as oil companies post the biggest profits in history ... John wants to give them another $4 billion in tax breaks."
Here is the justification behind this talking point:
1.) John McCain wants to cut corporate income taxes for all companies.
2.) Oil companies are companies.
That's it.
Democrats believe that you think oil companies are mean, so they single them out, hoping you think McCain has cut a special deal just for them. He hasn't.
I guess it's really hard to drum up anger against your opponent when you say, "John McCain wants to cut taxes for companies that make delicious ice cream sundaes, feed the puppies of toddlers and fix veterans' wheelchairs," but that's just as truthful as what Biden said. Show me an ice cream sundae, feed the puppies of toddlers or fix Veteran's wheelchair company that makes the profits that Oil companies do and get the tax incentives that oil companies do. Just to be fair.

Close Window McCain camp: Questions on Palin's party a 'smear' Tuesday, September 2, 2008 ST. PAUL, Minn. - John McCain's campaign said Tuesday that rival Barack Obama's campaign was spreading "smears" about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's past political affiliations. Yet, some of Palin's previous political activities are a matter of dispute.
At issue are claims by members of the Alaskan Independence Party that Palin was once associated with it. The party, some of whose members have advocated secession from the United States, wants to place all federal lands in Alaska under state control.
The McCain campaign released voter registration documents Tuesday dating to 1990 in which Palin lists herself as a Republican. Campaign spokesman Brian Rogers said Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982, and has never been a member of the Alaskan Independence Party.
Palin addressed the Independence Party's state convention by video earlier this year, welcoming the party to Fairbanks. She gave no indication of a current or past connection to the party.
"Your party plays an important role in our state's politics," she said in the video, which is posted on the party's Web site. "I've always said that competition is so good, and that applies to political parties as well."
Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, told ABC News that Palin and her husband, Todd, belonged to the party in 1994. Mark Chryson, chairman of the Independence Party from 1995 to 2002, told the network that Palin attended the party's convention in 1994. He said he was not certain if she was a party member, and party records do not date back that far.
Obama advisers and surrogates have also linked Palin to conservative former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. An Associated Press story from Alaska, dated July 17, 1999, states that Palin, then the mayor of the small town of Wasilla, was wearing a Buchanan button during a Buchanan visit to Alaska.
The Miami Herald this week quoted an e-mail from Obama Florida spokesman Mark Bubriski that stated: "Palin was a supporter of Pat Buchanan, a right-winger or as many Jews call him: a Nazi sympathizer."
The McCain campaign says Palin supported Steve Forbes' campaign in 1999.
"Supporters of Barack Obama are engaged in an unfortunate and nasty smear campaign," said Rogers, the McCain spokesman.
While Obama advisers and surrogates have drawn attention to Palin's political associations, the campaign has strictly avoided any comment on issues related to Palin's family, specifically anything focused on her 17-year-old daughter's out-of wedlock pregnancy.
"I think people's families are off limits and people's children are especially off limits," Obama said Monday.
