Was an interesting watch. It appears from Piro's months of interrogation that Saddam said he was just maintaining the illusion of having WMD's to keep Iran and others at bay. he also said that the invasion of Kuwait was basically started over a verbal insult. Saddam was trying to work out a deal with them and Kuwait told him if he agrees to make every Iraqi women a 10 dollar prostitute....

Whatever the case, this guy Piro pulled off a sick job

sometimes? the simplest answers are the correct ones. i didn't just make that up on my own, i read a lot of opinions by alot of people..

we backed him against Iran to begin with.

oddly enough? Iran "gelled" under the Revolutionary regime BECAUSE of Sadam's attacks. and apparently we backed both sides.. [Roll Eyes]

"apparently we backed both sides."

Yep, with bio and nerve- stuff, along with beaucoup of conventional weapons, many many advisers, and a wealth of encouragement.

What we didn't give them we (illegally....and took the funds resulting illegally to Central America to "encourage" more war) sold them.

my argument against war at the time was that we were flying over the country at will all the time.

we knew all we needed to know about any type of traditional munitions movements.
chemical weapons are delivered by traditional ordnance...

it was good training for our flyboys to get "painted" with radar once in awhile, and we were watching everything the Republican Guard did from the air, and up close from the air, not JUST from satellites and U2s...

when Hillary voted to got to war, (and she did, make no mistake about it)
i assumed there was a smallpox "problem", or some similar bio-wep. smallpox was the one that OUR govenrnment really scared the people who actually know the science behind bio-weps "go along" with the initial push to war..

after nothing happened? the very same people who know how these systems work, knew it had been a lie, because it is so easy to deliver them. the hard part is developing the cultures and maintaining them without accidental outbreaks etc.... if Sadam had them? he would have used them once we invaded. he had to know he would die before we left.

Russia did develop some nasty strains of smallpox and one of the scientists involved was supposedly in contact with Sadam at some point.

remeber? we had the smallpox vaccination push?

we had the anthrax in the mail, which was never solved...

the problem with saying Sadam had those things and disposed of them is that they require much more "TLC" than just about any other weapons systems.
you can't just dump them in the river without somebody getting sick somewhere.

Sadam didn't have the infrastructure to maintain them, or develop them. he never had much of his own infrastructure to begin with. much of it cam off the shelf from us and the russkies.

the labs would have been in the basement of one of his palaces...

we would have found the evidence or the people that worked there...

I think what happened with most in Congress, Clinton included, was that, with the President of the United States absolutely assuring us that he had solid PROOF, not just belief, that Saddam was all the bad things claimed, had all the bad things Bush said he had, and had developed actual plans to use those bad things on us, since historically, you or I or even a president simply doesn't lie to Congress on such a scale, particularly when the stakes include the possibility of war.

Then, with those assurances from a president of the United States of America of such intent and capabilities by Saddam, they, like you did with the capitulation of Clinton, accepted that there had to be such a problem and the danger real was eminent, because no president would dare make such claims falsely and without absolute certainty.

Remember that Bush was still relatively new to the Country at large and most people had little experience or knowledge dealing with him and his cadre of fascist and the way they operate. He got the benefit of the doubt and we got a dangerous senseless illegal war for dubya to hang in his trophy case and so we could hear him stating over and over in response to any suggestion he was operating outside the boundaries of the Constitution or those of reason or the American way, "I am a war president".

Am I suggesting he knew this war in Iraq was unnecessary and would be being fought on the basis of lies in order that he and his collection of crooks could smoke-screen the destruction of Constitutional provisions and bring a movement toward fascism to the Nation? DAMNED RIGHT I AM!!!!

It would be nice to interrogate our agent to find out some things most likely left unsaid
