8-, 9-Year-Old Boys Charged In Kidnapping, Rape Of 11-Year-Old Girl

[Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!]

http://www.news4jax.com/news4georgia/14647387/detail.html

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Three boys, ages 8 and 9, were being held Monday in a detention center on charges of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl near a suburban apartment complex, officials said.

The alleged attack happened Thursday and the girl's mother reported it to authorities Sunday, Acworth police Capt. Wayne Dennard said.

"The victim said they were playing outdoors and the girl was forced into a wooded area where she was sexually assaulted, where one of the boys raped her," Dennard told The Associated Press.

The three boys -- an 8-year-old and two 9-year-olds -- appeared in juvenile court Monday afternoon, dwarfed by the courtroom chairs and wearing navy blue jump suits and shackles. Their names were withheld because of their age.

Cobb County District Attorney Pat Head said the boys could not be charged with felony crimes because of their age but could be tried for alleged delinquent acts that could place them in a juvenile facility for up to five years.

The next step will be for the court to schedule a hearing to determine how to proceed in the case, Head said.

Juvenile Court Judge A. Gregory Poole issued a gag order preventing the lawyers from commenting further.

Acworth Police Chief Mike Wilkie said one of the boys was accused of threatening to hit the girl with a rock before the alleged assault. Wilkie also said the investigation is "far from over," and investigators are looking into claims that after the alleged attack, the girl talked about it with her friends at a slumber party.

The girl's mother told WGCL-TV in Atlanta, "They do need to be taught a lesson because if they do it to her, they could do it to somebody else. And who knows when they become teenagers what they can do to other girls."

The case involves children from a working class apartment complex. Acworth, 30 miles northwest of Atlanta along the shores of Lake Allatoona, is a town of about 17,000.

Acworth police said their department has never before investigated allegations of rape where all the parties were this young. "This wouldn't be normal anywhere, but especially not Acworth," Dennard said.

I shouldn't be flippant and remark how close the whole of Georgia is to the heart of Appalachia and then ask if the boys were simply fleeter footed siblings or cousins of the girl, should I?

But, seriously, I am glad I don't have to make that prosecutors decision on this situation. Though the hope may be entirely wrong, I'd like in this case to one day learn that the facts were all made up in childish anger and it really didn't happen. As the case is, it probably means that several little boys lives have been ended before they were even more than little boys.

The lives of everybody involved need to come to an immediate halt. Every responsible adult near/connected to such a case should look at this v-e-r-y closely and carefully.

"When I was that age, I didn't even know what sex realy was about..."

I guess that means you didn't have much time spent or experience on a farm and certainly not any on a ranch........or, if you did and still didn't know about sex at that age, you were not so mentally swift.

We need to get over the absurd notion that kids are ignorant of sex and concentrate on understanding they aren't old enough to fine tune it (or just about anything else) with right and wrong and good and bad. We have to supply that until they get the necessary maturity and experience (maturity ain't enough!!, specially when you use physical age as a measurement of maturity)to do the judging for themselves and until then, they have to be taught not to play the game.

But for the sake of us all, lets get over the equally absurd and dangerous efforts to declare them sexually immature way into their late teens. Nature didn't design human beings with the expectation of living to much more than an age to give the next generation just a chance to reach sexual maturity.....enough to assure a chance of remaining a viable species. What we want to remain children can and will start playing the game of reproducing way before the late teens. Nature, not our preferences dictates that. They know about sex and are physically capable of reproducing way before we like it to be the case. Failing to properly educate them by the time nature made it possible (and then, via hormones, urges them on to the act) about the mechanisms and the eventual consequences (and possibly how to mitigate those.....offering nothing but a streams of threats and dangers and placing sex into an atmosphere of something to dread and be equated with evil is lies and is counterproductive)is probably sinful, with the title of sinner being ours, not the errant children's.

On another approach to viewing this situation, in the last several years I have read several research studies that reach the conclusion that the age of first physical sexual maturity is dropping at a significant measurable rate for those human populations in which nutrition can be provided to infants and other young children regularly and in amounts that were not possible until only recently in human history.

(The case cited at the outset of this thread is not a new and shocking sort of event. I too recall a recent such incident, such as Mach recalls above, up in his part of the world, and since then I remember reading about a gang rape by sub-teen boys in the mid-east (Saudi Arabia, I think) and those with this latest are only three of several that made the news in recent years. (I do wonder, though, if there were as many in earlier years that a "responsible" press left out of the news or that a less efficient press simply missed altogether.)

i don't wonder about it at all...

having older family memebers that were the "tel" in telephone made me aware of just about everything you could imagine... and i was very good at behaving as if i was not paying attention to things when i was in fact listening quite carefully [Big Grin]

the press didn't simply "miss" the incidents, there used to be a saying; "fit to print" and this type of thing just wasn't "fit to print"...

i think it was Jerry Springer who broke the "fit to print filter"

Too bad Springer yielded to the lust for gold and abandoned (and with such abandon) what once was a serious and responsible political career.

I agree he contributed a heap to that pile of it, but, though he was soft spoken and unanimated, I must point more to the earlier efforts of Merv Griffin toward destroying that tenate of decency in the press. I think it was mostly through trying to copy Griffin's style of pseudo-news in a program of emotion grabbing gossip and thrill seeking near slander that led us to those such as Springer and, then and thereby, the evil that is a Pat Robertson and his ilk of false christianity.

Mine told me that God brought me. I was still not yet in kindergarten when I had to ask what was wrong with me that God didn't want to keep me.

I think I was four, which was the same year I observed out loud that the Santa, wearing read suit, black boots, and white beard, that had walked in the house and passed out presents to us on christmas eve Ho-Ho-Ho-ed in exactly the same voice as one of my father's friends and I believed he was a fake. Mama quickly grabbed me up and carried me in the other room, explaining that I should not say such a thing again in the hearing of my younger brother. (Farm life was not foreign to us and I knew calves and pigs and chickens and dogs and cats and so on and on and on did not get delivered by gods or any other fanciful means. I knew what happened when those bulls and cows "wrestled". I learned early on that there were certain "excusable white lies" parents and other adults planted for kids. In my own time, later on, I planted them too.)

Consensual Sex at 8 or 9 years old is one thing, "threatening to hit the girl with a rock" alleged assault is a completely different thing.

Watching the dogs or birds etc. do it is part of nature, but we need to teach our kids that does not make it okay anytime for them. The kids need to be explained at an early age what possible consequences of their act can lead to, whether this is explained at home or at school or both. (especially this day in age with all the diseases)

Alleged assault that is another ball game. They need to seriously look into why this happened at this age and start the investigation at home, which i am pretty sure this is already happening.

Unfortunately many times that is where it all starts from abuse and the kids acts are the outcome of this abuse. Sad but reality many times. Hopefully not the case here.

I wonder if because we have a more sexually opressed society then let's say Europe where it is more open and not a big deal and feel that sex is a good thing and not a bad thing... if we have more problems with sexual crimes, pregnancy, STD's etc. due to that... when you keep telling kids and such that sex is bad etc... it makes them want to try it more much like drugs, alcohol, guns etc..

Do we have more of a problem here than in Europe with sexual crimes per our population? Or is there just more publicity about these types of crimes in the US?

I still think that the abuse many people have to put up with has a major affect on our children and adults. I feel that the added pressures of today brings these problems out even more.

When i read about something like this it does not surprise me anymore. I see how some of the parents are acting at childrens sports games towards their kids and others and envision how they act towards their kids at home. Many of these kids have to take their frustrations out on something and in some cases it shows up in these types of acts.

i don't think we have more of a problem here. when i was in the USN, i went to SE Asia... i saw lots of stuff done daily there that we don't accept here, i also didn't like it, but i didn't feel as tho we needed to invade them and change them.. ooops..we already had invaded there...sheesh....

Several months back i saw an incident at the local pier. I was walking at the pier area and it was a very crowded day. I got about 10 yards beyond this dad and mom with a kid and for some reason i looked back, i could not believe my eyes this guy was shaking his kid (about 6 month old) so hard that his head and neck looked like a rag doll and screaming in French at him, i have never seen anything like this before.

It took me a little bit for it to hit me. There was a young guy standing a few feet from me watching the whole thing.(24 year old, guess) I asked what was going on, his comment was this does not happen in America, i said it happening right now and imagine what they do to this baby at home.

I still kick myself for not jumping into this thing but i was so shocked it took a few minutes to really hit me. By this time someone else was yelling at them from a ways away, and i think they figured it was time to leave in a hurry they were on bikes.

I started to call the police but stopped knowing by the time they got there this couple would be long gone.

They were headed for the bike trail so i went to my car and headed along that area to see if i could spot them. I saw a lifeguard in a truck and told him what had happened and he followed me just in case i spotted them. Never did find them after spending a hour looking, still regret that i did not jump in quicker.

The lifeguard told me i should not have jumped in, that i should always let the police handle this kind of thing. I am still not sure i did the right thing especially considering the kid. So many people passed right next to this incident and never stopped to do anything or say anything.

Isn't lynching okay in this case?

The third person one is the real and true MM....the I. The other one is only imaginary....the i.

Sadly, unlike the real and imaginary numbers, neither is a complete, a closed, or a compact system, nor is their join, but, though I can't offer a full proof in the space provided by the margin, it appears MM has a perfect mind*.

Another thing I feel people miss is that kids learn these acts from experiencing them.

The parents and close contacts should be investigated in these matters because incest and abuse still happens all the time. Its sick, sad, and inexcusable. God will have his special place in HELL for these sinners.

IWISH,

I doubt anyone that isn't trained is quick to respond when seeing something like that. You did what you could. If these were foreign visitors I doubt even the police could have done much more.

If i had gotten into a fight which probably would have happen the way this guy was acting, i would most likely be the one arrested. It might have been worth it.

I think you are right Bigfoot these parents would walk free. I was wondering if the police would be obligated to take this kid to the hospital for a brain scan under the circumstances to see if there was any brain damage.

it's pretty frustrating isn't it...

i had to report a domestic disturbance that ended up netting a wanted fugitive..

it was not easy making the decision to pick up the phone until i saw the blinds get ripped down after hearing what was pretty clearly a fist on a face.

the screwball part was that the "victim" interfered with the police during the "aprehension"

Glassman, it seems like many times when someone tries to help they get attacked by both parties. That happens sometimes when people try to break up a guy beating on a girl. It ends up with the guy and girl hitting the party that tried to break it up in the first place.

Still got to help even though that's always a possibility. It gets harder as you get older because it sure takes a lot longer to mend up.

i've gotten involved way deeper than i wanted to in a couple...

as for the case i mentioned? there was no way i was going into that house.... that's a license to kill for the resident...

the dude was serious bad news, and i knew that the first time i laid eyes on him... anybody would...

he was wanted for crack disrtibution in LA, but he was hanging out (hiding from the law no doubt) with a married (to someone else ) woman in Riverside..
i hope she got her fill of "walking on the wild side" from that, cuz that guy would eventually kill her IMO....
