August 2, 2007 -- Citing executive privilege,
President Bush yesterday rejected a subpoena for adviser Karl Rove to testify this morning at the Senate Judiciary Committee's probe into the firing of nine federal prosecutors.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who approved the firings, faces a possible perjury investigation over the truthfulness of his testimony to Congress.

oh it matters...

i don't know who is advising the president...

maybe he thinks the supreme court will do whatever he wants?

the Founders designed the system to have checks and balances...

either the Dems push this to the courts or they don't..

whether we really have a govt of the people and by the people anymore rests squarely on their shoulders..
if they fail? then the constitution really is just a peice of paper.. (for everybody)

i'm wondering why any of US should obey the law if the president don't [Wink]

and the dems might not even make them decide...

if the courts screw up? then we can deal with that.

but if the Dems don't force the issue? than there's not much that a peaceful person can do is there?

oh man oh man, i just ran a Cornell search on executive priviliege..

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode44/usc_sec_44_00002204----000-notes .html

Bush is basing his chit on his own executive orders?

here's the "twist"

Sec. 12. Judicial Review.
This order is intended to improve the internal management of the executive branch and is not intended to create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law by a party, other than a former President or his designated representative, against the United States, its agencies, its officers, or any person.

read all this carefully.. whoever gets in next? they hold Bush's and Cheney's life in their hands IMO...

i have a hard time with this issue of getting good advice...

i think it's bullchit...

being the president is a responsibility, not a package of privileges...
these guys should HAVE to show how they come to decisions that affect all of Us and our children...

I guess their scared of him? its the only thing I can think of.

Im sure if anything began to materialize the first thing you would see is the terror alert get raised. It seems to be wired directly to his BALLS

i am guessing [Confused] they are trying to put it off so it's on FRONT AND CENTER next year...

the problem i have i s that the Dems seem to me to be happy to just get in office, i am not hearing any kind of talk about justice, just acquistion of power...

ask this question at the next GOP debates:

will you, Mr Giulianni, pardon Bush and Cheney or any other current admin officials if they are charged with any crimes they have committed in office?

talk about a way to shake things up? LOL... i'm pretty sure that Thompson and Romney will pardon...

Hillary? i don't think she'll pardon, but i'm not sure she'd push the justice dept to follow up....

esp. since she's been getting so cozy with the investment people in NYNY

Well we're putting the cart before the horse especially since I dont think anybody has the balls to step up.

And I dont think Giulianni would pardon. He closer to the center then people think. Being an ex D.A. I think he has a pretty firm grasp on the justice system.

i'm hoping so rim, i hope so... i support him at this point...

here's what Hatch has to say today (from bloomberg)

Utah Republican Orrin Hatch criticized the attempt by Democrats to pursue their ``fishing expedition'' into the White House after failing to uncover evidence of wrongdoing in the firings. ``Every time that net comes up empty'' Democrats ``say they just know deep within their souls'' that ``the fish are there,'' Hatch said. ``They just need one more cast of the net.''

i wonder if Hatch remembers fishing whitewater? [Big Grin]

Hatch talks a good game a lot, but when push comes to shove, he always toes the Party line.

He talks the talk, but don't walk the walk.

The word starts with "h" and ends witb "ypocrite".

i'll take rough around the edges if we get somebody at least 25% HONEST in there...

former prosecutor? that's good IMO...

is it just me? or does anybody else half expect Rudy's dentures to pop out of his mouth at any moment while he's talking? [Big Grin]

We'll the NY Post is a very pro republican newspaper if you haven't notice.. anything that is anti republican by them is a teeny tiny article... anything pro republican is 2 or 3 pages long... just read their columnists political opinions just before the business section in that paper... the Republicans including Bush can do no wrong in those opinion articles... I only read the paper for the trashy articles they have on murders, the mob, business etc.. not the political ones.. when i do happen to read a political one i just have to laugh at the trash they write against Democrats and the cheerleading the paper does for the Republicans/Bush...
