interesting...

LETTER: Congress and pay as you go

By John Gardner
Zavalla

Sunday, October 15, 2006

The Senate debated on. House Bill, "H.J. Res. 47, which would raise the debt ceiling (three years in succession) by $781 billion. Sen. Kent Conrad, D-Montana, introduced an amendment I thought was the most sensible and logical endeavor to control Congressional spending.

If passed by the Republican-controlled Congress, HJ Res. 47, would raise the national debt from $8 trillion to $9 trillion dollars in 2007, and $11 trillion by 2011.

Sen. Conrad's, "Pago", (pay as you go) would meet the demands of HJ 47, without borrowing "one penny". In the Cayman Islands, there is a building which houses over 17,000 business addresses (mail boxes). These addresses belong to American businesses the Republican Congress gave tax breaks to "out source" their manufacturing facilities to countries with lower labor costs.

The manufactured products are "imported back" to the United States consumer markets and the profits are deposited in foreign banks "tax free." Sen. Conrad's amendment, if passed, would outlaw this "loophole" and the taxes collected would pay for House Bill HJ 47.

Our own illustrious senators, Kay Bailey Hutchinson and John Cornyn, were the deciding votes in killing the amendment. Their reasoning was as lame as the people who elected these big business stooges. "It would be a tax increase" and the American people (big business) do not want their taxes increased. Their votes, in killing the amendment, clearly state, "To Hell with the taxpayer, let's borrow money from Communist China."

Every amendment on HJ 47, presented by a Democrat was effectively killed (several should have been killed) by the Republican majority. Our two Senators voted "no" on every amendment and "yes" to raising our national debt to $11 trillion with no visible means in the future to repay it. If the people of Texas vote to re-elect these two "Bush Puppets" I will tell your grandchildren "Grand Ma and Grand Paw, Done It To Ya"

They won't get my vote, for this and many other similar reasons, but the republicans have so rigged the polls (and no simply with gerrymandering) in Texas it isn't realistic to imagine anyone not in their control could win.

Personally, I am seriously considering voting out every incumbant in my area (even the ones I kinda like...all 0 of them). The political arena is seriously screwed up and I feel the people need to send out a message that this is not acceptable.

Whats the difference anymore most Americans don't care it is a dirty shame slience when outrage should be the emotion that should be sounding out accross the land.

I for one am going to vote against every looney tune that there is . That I can legally vote. And thats dem, rep,or ind.

It won't matter much the machines will take care of it and this time I just may leave the country if it happens

A lot of you guys and gals still don't think much of the fact that in the year of 2000 in the most powerful advanced nation on earth,a person that listens to voices in his head was made our leader.

I am still in shcok and really can't believe it.

That in itself tells my we are not much past the hunter and gather stage mentally.
