"Depleted uranium is the garbage left from producing enriched uranium for nuclear weapons and energy plants. It is 60 percent as radioactive as natural uranium."
"The Department of Defense says depleted uranium is powerful and safe, and not that worrisome."
I doubt the radium that killed Pierre and Marie Currie was as pure as or as great a source of radioactivity as depleted uranium that is only 60% of natural uranium.
I am completely amazed that the military makes assinine claims that this stuff is harmless.
60% as radioactive is deadly! 10% is deadly.
Uranium, if you could find any that was not radioactive is deadly, just like most of the metals.

This is a subject that has always baffled me B. How can anyone have that much exposure to uranium, with no affects? How depleted is it, and how long have we been using it for ammo?

oh man that stuff is bad bad...ive handled ammunition that was DU...army doesnt care one bit either. had some friends in a vehicle that caught on fire with DU armor and inhaled a bunch of the smoke...few years down the road they are going to be messed up and the army will deny it.
we all found out that this is why the army wont address the depleted uranium claim and its bad effects. if they did then the govt would have to pay out so much more money in medical benefits.
is that not just sick or what? yes..its that bad, and thats why im not re-enlisting (among other reasons like IRaq)

Spent some time in M1A1 heavy's. Their armor is a mix of chabam and DU. Also, the penetrators on warshot sabot rounds are DU but they are encased in a steel jacket. The DU in the round does make a difference though. The sabots the Iraqi's were using couldn't penetrate M1A1 armor, while ours, obviously could. Still my favorite round to shoot though. Nice flat trajectory unlike HEAT rounds.

if you want more evidence of DU being used and its problems look at bosnia. we used DU all over that place and now the cancer rates there are skyrocketing...the ground all over there is heavily contaminated now

Oh, and they don't want to discuss the ocean dumps where tons of bombs and ammunition were dumped either! Off our coasts along with other countries. What about the anthrax shots I was given in the morning then they discontinued them that same afternoon telling my scout friends it was a "bad batch". Time will tell all......

Unfortunately, I had all series of 6 injections. Who knows.... It it very sad that our Gov can't control and use common sense with the military and their weapons. There is no reason to leave behind radioactive material or put soldiers in harms way for that little extra punch power. There are other weapons....

Due to some circumstance beyond my control and others that weren't, I have managed to get my self stuck with about 14 anthrax injections in the last 12 or so years.
