FEINGOLD MOVES TO CENSURE BUSH
Monday, March 13, 2006 - FreeMarketNews.com

U.S. Senator Russ Feingold will ask the Senate today to officially censure President Bush for breaking the law by authorizing an illegal wiretapping program, and for misleading Congress and the American people about the existence and legality of that program. If the Wisconsin Democrat's move were to succeed, Bush would be the first president in 172 years to be so condemned by Congress. Charging that the President's illegal wiretapping program is in direct violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) – which makes it a crime to wiretap Americans in the United States without a warrant or a court order - Feingold argues that Congress cannot avoid facing the fact that fundamental Constitutional issues are at stake.

it won't go...

the GOP is in control and not in total revolt against Bush

YET anyway...

this maneuver is designed to be something the Dems can point at during the election and say "you need to vote against the GOP"...

it's in the same league as the GOP passing UNconstitional bans on partial birth abortion (just a gimmick)...

While I agree with Feingold's intent, I think it's a bad idea right now. Bush is doing just fine failing on his own. A censure (ie. slap on the wrist) will probably just backfire on the Democrats by lighting a fire under (what's left of) Bush's base.

Feingold should wait until after the mid-term elections.

I don't thin Feingold imagines it will be more than a way to say what most of the people already have been thinking.

I'm sure that's true but, politically speaking, it is best to postpone it for now. Then, after the mid-term elections, they can go after Bush with both barrels...

...and I'll be cheering them on.
