now since i can't dig up the actually quote I'll come as close as I can. It related to him hating the winter olympics. Stating that they weren't real olympics blah blah and they are not the best athletes because "the paucity of blacks in the winter olympics makes it look like a GOP convention"
If someone other than me ever discusses this, then I'll throw in the real quote. LOL
rush (who sucks) got fired for saying mcnab was over rated (he is/was) because he is black. (stupid comment, most likely mcnabb is over rated because he's a great guy. Barry bonds gets no slack and he's black he gets no slack cuz he's a jag off)
Its always fun to watch these things play out, or not play out.....

Talk about it is all over the air here....except they only talk about it.....no one tells what was said.....at least that I've heard.
So, I can't say what would be the result if Bush said it, but probably, most people would just say it is another lie, like almost everything he says.
Gumble has a different reputation....he's generally expected to tell the truth.

tex, context was bad. not the pun on the GOP that was a joke but the I'm not watching cuz these arent the best athletes because there are no blacks....
winter sports are elitist, but not cuz of color, more of location and cash.
gumbels show isn't letterman by the way, off color jokes are fine and actually IMO what rush said and gumbell said is fine, i disagree with both but don't want to censor either.

Finally got it: "Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention . Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ... So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin."

As for Gumbel's comments...I'll keep my opinions to myself, though not a racisist, my comments about that ass-hat could be missinterpreted.
AAAiiiieee. Laktu is only now back from curling...
OK! 42 should be an Olympic winter sport! All races can huddle inside while curling-ers go curl and sled-bobbers can bob for bob for sleds. Gumbel can't gripe about the lack of blacks playing 42...

none of these were that bad. yet people lost money paying jobs over them. I disagree with the greek too, but his job was commentary i often disagreed.

Maybe you are too young. Back about 89 or 90, he made a remark that Lary Bird was not good enough to be in the NBA...that he was just allowed to play so there would be a token white guy. Got his bigoted bottom in a tight space!

some parts of his statement are interesting....
there is definitely a class difference in the winter games...
i think the kids who ski and snowboard cost their parents alot more than the price of an ivy league undergrad degree in lift tickets alone...never mind condo fees and fashion accessories...

Definately an difference between Socio economic status, also a geography issue. if he said poor or floridians, that be fine.
no color issue though.

I have never liked Gumble as an announcer. I do not like his condescending manner and arrogance and usually change the channel whenever he appears. (Thank God for remotes!)
Do you suppose Gumble realizes that if tokenism wasn't practiced by the networks, he'd never have gotten his job in the first place?
