OK, so this kitty kitty that I got a few months ago has decided that I don't need sleep. All night long he is bothering me and trying to gt me to get up and play. He doesn't bother the old lady, just ME!!!! The other night Igave him a special tuna fish treat (actually albacor) laced with a little benadryl thinking the benadryl would make him sleepy. Wrong, it had the opposite effect on him. So I thought I would kick him out and close the bedroom door. Wrong again, he just cried and banged his head against the door all night. Anyway, I have some Ambien left over from when I was in Iraq and I Was thinking about grinding up a little and putting that in his food. Anyone know if there would be any ill effects for satan kitty if I did that? Is there a veteranarian in the house?

Hilander,

I think you are doing this thing backwards, why waste the ambien on the kitty?

I'm sure there's info on the web or a book somewhere of how to "train" your kitty?

Dump catnip over his head 2 hours before you go to bed he should start to crash by then; don't forget to feed him cause he will get the munchies .

All good suggestions here HILANDER. Please let us know the out come!

I have tried bdgee's tactic a few times in the middle of the night and they do get the hit after an hour or so of lost sleep.

No MM and Glass had good ones I have not yet tried...

Doesn't work, I've tried it. They think you're playing and keep coming back. Unless of course you fling him like a major leaguer throwing a fastball. That would probably work......permanently.

Could always try throwing things at the cat.
I've noticed that for all their agility cats are often bested by a well thrown telephone book.

Or, you could take the cat out on a nice long drive in the country and pitch him out the window at about 60 mph. That should teach him a lesson he'll not soon forget.

Or, if you don't really want to harm the poor kitty, just grab one whisker on each side of his face and yank them out. He'll run around in circles for an hour or so then spend the rest of the night pawing at his now empty whisker sockets. It should afford you a good nights sleep. The only problem is that he has a limited amount of whiskers so only do it when all else fails.

lol, ya--"if you don't want to hurt kitty"

doh--whiskers are survival tools...not to mention the OUCH!

lol, ok, maybe not like castration...but still--pretty extreme (I'm ignoring the "up against the wall" posts...)

********

Jeez, Hi--ain't this the same kitty we spent *weeks* trying to figure a name? lol, put it the laundry room with food and water, and close the door...

Laundry room... brilliant idea... a minute or ten in the dryer should cure that restlessness.

That might work. The only problem is he'll come out of the dryer looking like a tribble and be very dizzy. He'll be banging into the walls all night and that might keep you awake too.

You're right... better make it a solid twenty minutes then... no way the little B*$t*rd is walking or bumping into anything after that

That's probably about right. 20 minutes on the permanent press setting and kitty won't be bothering anyone for a long while.

Once kitty is out of the dryer a good ironing on high heat using lots of steam will finish the job.

I'm not a vet, but I do work at a vet clinic...rule of thumb don't give the cat any human meds that you would not be willing to give to your 10lb baby with the exception of asprin when needed for pain until you can get the proper medicine from the vet.

As far as the cat keeping you up all night...It sounds like he needs a playmate, so get him another cat to play with or if you don't want another cat make sure you keep him awake most of the day so he will sleep at night.

Now here is the bad news Hilander. The bill has been sent for all this good veterinarian advice and you know it is not cheap. The good news is that we sent it by mail so you won't get it for 6 months.

lol....that would be my 3rd suggestion, getting a really big dog that takes up most of the bed so kitty has nowhere to sleep or is too scared to join.

That's right... one cat keeping you up all night?... get another surely you can sleep with two in the house.

Duct tape works well too. Tape the kitty up into a ball right before bed and he'll be nice and still all night. You have to be careful when you remove it the next morning though or you'll wind up with a hairless.

Like I said, I think he needs a playmate. You may hear the 2 cats destroying your house at 2am but really how much damage can cats do???? LOL I can already hear the results of that comment but seriously he will be happier and you might be too.
