According to an article in this morning's Star-Telegram, then FEMA Director Michael Brown was NOT in charge of FEMA relief at the time of or for 36 hours after the storm had passed through New Orleans. The article, from the Knight Ridder News Service, states that "...Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff--not then-Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown--was in charge of managing the national response to a disaster". Also, Knight Ridder claimes to have possession of a memo proving that, "...Chertoff didn't shift that power to Brown until late afternoon or evening on Aug. 30, about 36 hours after Katrina hit Louisianna and Mississippi".

Actually, it's really the same story with an additional name. Bush appointed incompetitent political hacks to critical positions.

ya, let's see the dates on those orders...

Also, if he's "in charge," then *why wasn't* he in charge? They knew he was incompetent? In that case--shoulda moved him to less authoritative position or found him another job.

Either way--if true--time for Chertoff to strap on the 'chute, too...

Yes, Tex....and I doubt that's the end of the line. Once you start playing the patronage game, it has to go on. This Administration's patronage will cripple us for at least a generation, most likely more.

i was running a google on the term MERITOCRACY awhile back....

the Clinton administration hired an awful lot of Modern Era Ivy Leaguers....as opposed to the "finishing school era" of ivy leaguers...Bush was in fact one of the very last of the "finishing school" Ivy Leaguers....

BUT

i wasn't a fan of the Clinton meritocrats either, even tho they had a lot of good credentials....

how did the GOP end up with the House and the Senate? a stupid gun law.... one that didn't make any sense at all...

they didn't really ban anything but bayonets on guns and folding stocks... what a joke... it sure did sell a lot of cheap military LOOKING guns tho [Big Grin]

He called it a "Near catastrophic event".

Many would argue the "near" part of that.

He should have been slamming his hand on tables and cursing like Mayor Nagin to get peoples attention instead of formal a$$ kissing emails.

if you read this site completely (MK17 depth charge? anyone?) it will curl your toes... The Marine Rifle Squad that accompanies it during its transit and transfer can readily identify a nuclear depth charge ASROC. especially if you like clean water and whales....

I can manage a fair pattern with a rifle, but standing in the dry bed of a creek that cut a 20 foot channel through a pasture I couldn't hit the banks with a pistol. My weapon of choice in all possibly dangerous confrontations.......a twenty minute head start.

all i was really getting at is that there's an awful lot of people that are "in over their head"

Clinton had both the house and the senate, and he blew it with stupidity, the majority had no intention of accepting the gun ban, and it was written by people that had no clue about how guns work, and they didn't even bother to find out before they wrote and passed the bill..they just wrote a law that sounded and looked good.... obviously a majority told them to stuff it...

and now it looks like Bush will blow it with, uh, with well, with? sheesh i don't even know how to judge him... he seems like he has a plan sometimes, but then i wonder...
he is now giving Syria a ration of Chit for allowing "insurgents" to go into Iraq, when just a few months ago? he was saying "bring it on" i thought he was supposed to be luring the terrorists into a "trap"....who knows what they are thinking..... i don't think they know from one minute to the next...

and now Bush wants to be allowed to "play" with tactical nukes? he needs to be sent to bed without dinner......

yes, blame must be doled out....

you have to remember that if you want to take credit for the good things that happen, even if you have no control of them? then you have to take credit for the bad, even if you have no control over them...

doctors and malpractice is a good exampple too...

docotors were once valued members of the COMMUNITY...they got paid with a chicken if thats what you had...NOW? they have built a very tall pedestal for themselves and climbed on top..... as they try to convince you they deserve to make 400$ to 1000$/hr? then they must be perfect or something huh??...no big shock that they get knocked off the pedestal when they slip up... it's a long way down......
