Something very important is happening here -- something more than simply a hurricane, or the suffering of thousands who were neglected by their government during a time of great need. Most worldly occurrences reflect deeper truths. What is happening is a gigantic reckoning, as Americans are forced to come to terms with how very, very naked is the emperor who we thought had such incredible clothes.

"The president prides himself on running the government like a well-run business. That, of course, makes him the chief executive. And if the government failed, then he failed."

Failure, like pregnancy, cannot be done part way. You either own up to failure or you have denied it. Have your cronies beg to wait for any assessment and assigne blame to lesser authorities. But mostly, buy time for the public to become inured to the facts. Then, you can lie and claim it never happened or it was someone elses watch.

Bush does seem to be willing to admit this failure.
i'd be shocked to have him actually apologize, but he is admitting blame.....

with the Iraq war WMD issue? which Bush did eventually admit to severe mistakes too...

it took me months to convince many of you that he had published a report that flatly stated he was completely wrong about the WMD....

we still have so many spin Doctors like Coulter Hannity and Savage, and their pharmaceutical customers like Rushie, that are promoting this soullessness that it will be hard to overcome...

it's funny, people like to point to Ozzie and AC/DC and Led Zep and say they sold their souls for fame, yet i see Pat Robertson and others that i already mention even more guilty...

the rockers may have sold their souls or not. i don't know, but i do know they tell it pretty straight when they sing about evil... these other folks are just palin nasty and mean...maybe they don't even have souls to sell???????

If it hasn't been on the little box across the room, I haven't seen it. Back in high school I had a job as an usher in a first run theater. The Manager was a drunk that liked little boys, but his mother was on the board of the theater chain. So, the manager had the job but was not allowed to be on the premises except to check the books once a month. The Assistant Manager got drafted and the policy was to hold his job open 'til he got out of the army. A month after I started, the head usher got mad and quit in the middle of the day and left me there with a camera man in the projection room and a ticket girl behind the little window with the slot. I never got a raise or any change of title, but I ended up doing everything but signing the books at the end of the month and running the projectors.

Are you familiar with an old song by Jimmy Rogers with the lines,

"They never let me run the train or even ring the bell.

But when the damned thing jumps the track, just guess who catches hell?"

That was me!

I finally quit in a huff one day when they sent a "temporary manager" to "fill in for the Manager while he went on vacation" and she said racial things to a little black boy I had been told to hire to keep lobby clean and look plantation like in a little white suit for the customers.

So, since those days, I have tried to never enter a theater if I could avoid it.

But I'll watch for "Constantine".
