Serial killers, pedophiles, homosexuals, etc., are largely born that way - abnormal neuronal communications at a level of instincts.
Serial killers have such abnormal neuronal connections between sex and aggression motivations, for instance.
There is nothing in their upbringing that can explain how these abnormal people get that way.
Their abnormal needs are compulsively strong - not subject to any treament except in very rare instances. Must be locked up, monitored closely if out, or killed.

good point. ppl here are posting as if this guy molested kids. which it sounds like he didn't.
lots of ppl have truly freakish sexual trips (s&m, men who like to pee on women, etc,) and treat their trips responsibly, i.e, find appropriate willing partners. (or in the case of pedophiles, find young adults who look even younger.)
the criminals in this case are the ones making the kid-porn.
(why can't they just do it as animation?)

glass, as far as i know he wasn't sending pictures, that would be different. This was a hoemeland security sting, thats what bothers me. So far, he got pictures didn't take or send them (not defending the freak)

also, if you take the natural population control angle, then you see homosxlty as part of nature's design, and therefore not abnormality. it is nature's plan, i.e, normal, for some ppl to be gay. so we see straght & gay as majority & minority, rather than normality & abnormality.
meanwhile i suppose the same argument could be made for serial killers - population control (??). in which case i guess i'd say i think some of nature's ideas are better than others. .. !

as far as pedophelia's concerned i must say, i found humbert humbert to be a sympathetic character, and then found out some very dear friends of mine found him monstrous.

Good points. God works in mysterious ways - serial killers, pedophiles, homosexuals, people like myself.
Cultural and other learning influences can modify sexual insincts some, however:
1. Women are innately attracted to power in a man, older rich men with status. This makes for a good provider for mother and children.
2. Men are innately attracted to young (about 14 to 30 year-old) females, as having maximum child bearing and rearing potential.
This latter sexual attraction instinct can vary - sometimes attraction to children below 14 occurs to produce pedophiles.
When I was young, I liked older women, but as I grew increasingly older I liked increasingly younger women. Now that I am really old I like my lambs (LOL).
Did you see both Lolita movies - James Mason's and Jeremy Irons'? Both played Humbert in a sympathetic fashion - pathetic fools chasing a rainbow.

Was he guilty for receiving as well as distributing?
If it was just receiving, that is a violation of constitutional rights. I am legally allowed to view any crimes that are committed. If I receive a picture of a murder happening, should that be against the law? What about a drug deal, or a mugging? If I just receive those images, should I be arrested???

I think Jeremy Irons always does a decent job...But there was something wrong with that one.. can't remember now.. the script? was it too long?...

Yes Lucy, I think the James Mason version was better overall, but Mason seemed so exasperated. Irons played it better than Mason - some exasperation but more just a driven fool in a lost cause (pathetic).
If I were female like you - young, creative, intelligent, and a billionare - I would want to have an affair with Irons. I lose on all counts, but, "Artie had a litle lamb."
