Whats your point?

Just because it snowed in Texas doesn't mean the globe is not warming. All of the glaciers in the arctic are melting.

I know osubucks....that's what I meant, the globe is warming in some places and getting cooler in other. It usually never snows in south texas. [Wink]

global warming is unproven...

our datasets have serious flaws in them. to say it exists as a long-term trend or not is irresponsible.

i'm not saying ignore pollution, just that measurements prior to 1970 can't be trusted due to calibration issues...

keep in mind that global warming trends APPEAR to precede "ice ages"....there is strong scientific theory to back this, and we are overdue for the next "ice age"

Global warming has been proven. Just not by our people. (USA) Our people are taking atmospheric temperatures. In Europe, they're measuring the Poles icecaps and the temperature of the oceans. Definitely changing.

one of the issues that is severely overlooked( by the media) in global warming is the deep sloooowwwww cold currents at the bottom of the ocean...

i am NOT saying ignore global warming and keep burning oil, i am saying that this is a very politisized problem that is a scientific nightmare....in the sense of data management...

December 10, 2001

METHANE EXPLOSION WARMED THE PREHISTORIC EARTH, POSSIBLE AGAIN

A tremendous release of methane gas frozen beneath the sea floor heated the Earth by up to 13 degrees Fahrenheit (7 degrees Celsius) 55 million years ago, a new NASA study confirms. NASA scientists used data from a computer simulation of the paleo-climate to better understand the role of methane in climate change. While most greenhouse gas studies focus on carbon dioxide, methane is 20 times more potent as a heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere.

Global warming is the biggest farce the agenda mongers have EVER conspired.

In the 1970's we were told that the Ozone Layer was irreparablly harmed, and we would lose it due to atmospheric toxins and we would have world-wide temperature go up, and people die from the suns rays.

Well...

In 2000 they discovered that the ozone layer's hole over Antarctica has closed up, and a different one opened in some other region and is smaller than the original one.

Maybe they were the same scientists who once said eggs were bad for you, only to pull a John Kerry in another study 3 years later and say eggs are good for you.

the internet is great..i am scatterbrain (honest, i was told this my whole childhood) but now google puts my breif recollections back to my fingertips with just a search word....and a lttle work...i love this thing...

anyway, you can find data to support almost any position if you look...

we need to move to hydrogen power as fast as we possibly can... but then we end up having to manage the "free" oxygen levels because as we split water for hydrogen we will free oxygen, and i read somewhere that if the oxygen level were to rise as high 23, 24% (from 19.9%) we would just go up in a flash due to spontaneous combustion....

Hydrogen Power is a great idea, except for the cost factor. Even if you could build the fuel cells for a house, building, car etc.., supposedly the cost would be too high for the average citizen to afford it.

However...

If the government put as much money and research into finding a cheaper fuel source for residential, AND business purposes, can you image what it would do to prices, costs, and the overall economy?

Either Nuclear, Wind, or Hydrogen... I dont care, just stop wasting money on worthless trips to Mars, and use that money and scientific know-how to build us an alt fuel source.

yes, there is no free ride...
and as Art says, there is always another perspective.

there are other places to look for hydrogen than water...and oxygen is very useful stuff...

methane is CH4 lots of hdrogen no oxygen...and that NASA study? well what isn't mentioned in THAT article is that frozen methane is laying ALLover the ocean floor ALL OVER it freezes at about 33degrees f

estimates are that we have about 80 times more methane just on the ocean floor alone than ALL the oil reserves....

the real problem will be collecting it in a safe manner without distrubing the local environment down there...

The whole global warming issue is distorted on both sides of the fence. I find it frustrating that the environmental movement uses it as their poster child.

The environmental issues we are facing are serious. Anyone with a new child should be concerned about the future - increasing population, increasing use of fossil fuels, increase sprawl, increasing deforestation, over fishing, increasing waste into the oceans and fresh water systems ...

I don't care if you're right wing or left radical. You have got to be a complete moron, or just blind, to think we can sustain this type of 'progress' without *serious* consequences in the next 20-50 years.

Argue all you want about whether global warming is happening or not, meanwhile the citizens of LA, Phoenix and many other cities are choking on toxins and unable to see more than 1 mile on a 'clear' and sunny day.

It bums me out. The whole debate about whether global warming is a reality or not is simply a way for the public to largely not deal with the real issues. I simply don't get it.

Unbelievable.

Very excellent points, d6veteran.

Remember the Doonesbury cartoon?

"We have met the enemy and he is us."

Human greed for more immediate satisfactions, ignoring long term disasters, will do us all in one day. Unless we come to our senses and find a fix as the crisis approaches.

Time will tell.

i know timber.. don't mess with my Nascar...
MAYBE these guys will lead the way to more sanity?

i got interested in racing in the 70's. when i started doing my research i learned about many of the "new" features we find on street cars today...

we now have cars/light trucks with more power/cubic inch than we did in the height of the muscle car craze, and they get better gas mileage than "efficient" cars of those days..performance is a marketing tool...
when i would discuss racing amongst my "liberal acquaintances" in the eighties they would froth at the mouth [Big Grin] calling me all kinds of nasty names...
i hear rumors that we are now on the verge of having hybrid cars with HIGHER performance and EFFICIENCY capabilities than straight gas cars...(they are too expensive so far)
if Nascar would consider leading the way into the next technology? it would be a much smoother transition...fame and fortune bring social responsibility
usually abrupt changes in economy are brought about by crisis...we don't want that..

Yes, we need more war, disease, famine, and other acts of God.

Coming soon though - nature will srike back at overpopulated humans.

Would be nice if we could limit our population growth.

But who thinks before having sex?

And having sex causes kids.

Look at Africa - population growth in spite of famine, disease, and civil wars.

Afraid it will have to be war, disease, famine, etc., and much more in the future than in the past.

Chopping down the trees in the Amazon area is causing less rainfall.

A big problem if the crops quit growing.

We might have to eventually eat each other after the plants are gone and the animals too.

Just a thought for the s day.
