Good point. Most don't turn out to be true.
A well regulated society, with governmental control of economic factors, is possible - if it is done intelligently, and this is an insurmountable 'if'.
An unregulated society, where individuals take responsibility for their own lives, and the free market makes its own decisions (buyer beware), lets the smart people thrive and the weak perish - law of the jungle. Some happy medium is possible.
From what you have said, Canada is trying for that happy medium - best of both the communist and the capitalist worlds. The key is to develop people and help them better themselves towards self-sufficiency.

That is what Canada and Canadians aim to do believe it or not. Saying that ALL of our policies reflect that is definetly not the case. But I have no doubt that our mainstream parties with the exception of the NDP (communists\socialists) all strive (and often stumble) towards that goal.
Imagine if we could honestly develop the 3rd world into a new middle class market? Imagine the prosperity for everyone!
