I have a scottrade account and am currently trading stocks with it. I was wondering if I would be able to buy and excercise options with this same account and platform, or if I need to start up another account with someone else. Thanks in advance for your input.

It varies from broker to broker. For non-IRA accounts, generally you can buy and sell options and exercise options along w stocks, bonds, mutual funds. Just give them a call or read your account summary.

I had an idea that straddles and strangles may be more successful in the longer term. I'm experimenting now. Bought January 2006 HON calls at 45 and puts at 30 when it was trading approx. at 37.50. cost me 1.50 on the calls and 1.30 on the puts. My plan is to sell first one to reach break-even on the combo. Then hold the other side for a free shot. I also did this with PFE. Trading around 25, I bought the 30 calls and 20 puts for Jan06. we'll see what happens.

Hi, When did you buy HON jan 45 call, 30 puts ? They were well below $1.00 on recent dates when stock was ~37.50. Since HON is a low beta stock, I was wondering why you paid such high premium.
