Diana,

It's Monday morning. Woke up late today 7:00 a.m. Kid woke with me. First question he asked "is the stock market open today?" Great, now I have him really interested. Maybe I'll do as you say Diana. Open an account for him and see how he does. He is way smarter than his mother so he may very well do better. This might be my source of funds for permanent vacation.
Rain's on us today. Nothing to do. Damn market is closed. Adrenaline is at rest. Boring. Keep hitting refresh on the allstock board. Am I pathetic or what?

A GREAT STORY--

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed Each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup Perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.

After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window. "I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. "Mrs.. Jones, you haven't seen the room .... just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged... it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it "It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time in my life. Old age is like a bank account ... you withdraw from what you've put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories. Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank . I am still depositing.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

Denzen,

I'll be two years more than you. But if it happens and I am alive and kicking you can betcha I'll be there wheel chair, cane, walker, medication and what have you.

Diana,

Thanks for the great enlightenment. It is simple things in life that makes us happy and what we really are. Of course along the way we are always side tracked by material things and thus are blind to what is real. BTW how's your day getting along?

Diana--Reality is what we make it---see Jules Vernes et al---One of the great tragedies of modern times is the dissolution of the isolated "stone age" tribes. Ethnobotanists have been scrambling to learn the "primitive" languages of these disappearing tribes and traveling deep into the jungles of south america to study the medicinal lore of the "witch docotors" and shaman.--I refer you to Medicine Man the movie--Sean did a great job in this one--the epiphany was this-STUPID WHITE MAN-- PLANT NOT MEDICINE--PLANT HOUSE FOR BUGS--BUGS MEDICINE--- the issue about reality here is as follows--many of the combinations of medicines/herbs/organics that the "primitives" use are non-toxic ONLY when taken in very specific combinations. The individual components of many are EXTREMELY toxic. When confronted with this fact one of the early white students of these people asked his shaman-- how do you know how to make these formulas? Many people must have died to test these complicated formulas. The shaman pointed out one of the more common herbs in his apothecary--(not hemp)-- and told the stupid white man--I ASK HER-----apparently these people were raised from a very early age to examine themselves and the world around them using these mind altering substances to learn how to thrive--part of their key to happiness was a lack of unrealistic expectations. I can't explain it and i am not pumping drug use--I am just suggesting that if you need meds to get by, you better take meds. It's still reality. LOL

Whoa... that IS weird. I quit smoking today too. It's my wife's birthday today. She told me all month that she didn't want me to buy her anything... and I didn't. THis morning I told her I was quitting as a gift (cause it is her biggest peeve about me). In about 15 minutes... it will have been 24 hours without smoking. Yeeeeeeeeeeehaw! Mind you, I've been yelling at my kids since I got home. I'm stressed all to Hell.
Anyway... good for you!

<-------giving high 5's to you, Salemm. A week ago
was my 45th birthday. Last night, I spent
3 hours in the E.R. with chest pain and a not so good feeling in my left arm. Next Monday, I go in for a cardiac stress test, not the tread mill, but the sythetic adrenaline injection. I always wanted to see my kids grow, then a grandchild came along and I want to see him grow too (he's
my life). Salemm, we CAN do it!! Diane,
can this be a thread for smoker's anon, too?
Keep me post Salemm, my thoughts are with you.

The good news--Robin---you have (in my experience)only 48 real bad hours left in front of you. The fourth day on the patch is the day i forget that i want something in my hands. Then it is a mere memory of something nagging-- not the time stretch you are feeling right now-I have found that cutting WAAAY back on the coffee helps too the first days---don't stop coffee all at once --that causes headaches.

Glassman, I drink maybe a cup and a half of coffee each morning and 10 CIGARETTES with that cup and half, while getting my other "fix" on Allstocks. Tomorrow morning is going to be the clincher. Degs has promised me alot more hugs (we'll see) as I get thru this. He is a social smoker and quitting with me. He is already asleep (HELP!!) cos he actually did some physical work today to "pass time" waiting for the Tuesday bell!! Bless his little heart.

...still smoke-free. Hey, Deg's wife... tell me you're still strong!? At a little passed 10 tonight, that'll be 48 hours for me. I keep thinking 3 days is critical.

...barely human now... avoiding my kids... scared I'll yell at them again (like yesterday). Wife is being extra nice to me. I feel like a leper. Kids have got to be wondering what's going on with Daddy today. Tried to explain... made me want to smoke.

I bought all kinds of snacks to keep my mouth going... olives (3 kinds), candy, gum, potatoe chips... honestly, the best thing seems to be concentration on my investments, reading inv. forums, and keeping busy in front of my computer. Can't smoke inside so... gotta stay glued there as long as possible.

Anyhoooooo... thank-you kindly to all well-wishers. If pure strangers tell you to get off the stuff... that's gotta tell you the stuff is nastyyyyyyyy! I WILL NOT DISAPPOINT. Deg's Wife: hang in there... time is your friend. I'm hoping you're still with me... if you slipped, just keep going from there, don't despair, k?

Good morning everyone!! This is going on
my third day, and so far, I am doing ok.
I really wanted to smoke last night, but
hubby gave me 2 Xanax and even stayed up with
me until they made me pass out. Too vivid
of a dream brought me straight up in bed this
morning. If that a is nicotine withdrawal, someone let me know. Anyway, I am still hanging on, not cheated, even though I have wanted to. Please, everyone keep in touch!!

of a dream brought me straight up in bed this
morning. If that a is nicotine withdrawal, someone let me know. Anyway, I am still hanging on, not cheated, even though I have wanted to. Please, everyone keep in touch!!

If you are wearing the patch in bed to sleep that IS most likely the cause--Xanax can also stimulate odd dreams as well as melatonin--(an over the counter supplement)--i personnally like UNISOM (by pfizer)for sleep(it doesn't give me odder dreams than i usually have LOL) --it is also OTC

Whew, I was almost afraid to post anything tonight. I see a new thread has been started and I honestly thought, "ut oh, I've done something wrong." But as I scrolled the long list, I see Diane's thread is still here. THANK YOU BOB!! It's been over 72 hours and still smoke free. Glassman, I think I might take you up on those OTC meds. Hubby woke me up when I was crying in my sleep early this morning from a bad dream, it was sooo vivid, I didn't want to go back to sleep. So thinking of taking a trip to Wally World. Keep me in your prayers. I got a long weekend coming. That's going to be my "trying time". G'NITE ALL. Thanks for the support.
