Any one know a simple rule of thumb for short-able
stocks? it is frustrating to find a perfect short
canidate and then realize that etrade wont borrow
those shares. sometimes its even a heavly traded
nasdaq stock. i realize the trouble in borrowing
small cap stocks. is price a factor? i wanted to short dndn and i couldnt after the breakout. i
am also aware of the uptick rule. any help?

we all want to short penny stocks lol if we did we would be alot richer... but unfortunately most if not all brokers will not let us short them and if you find one i'm sure they have a very limited amount of which ones you can... for the most part you can only short stocks $5 and over...

o, well...you can short some pennies, but the deposit/margin whatever is prohibitive, in my risk/reward scheme...

I think "Free Muney" is asking for a database/list of any/all shortable stocks, ie, he wants play short without going through the hasssle of finding a candidate only to learn it's not elegible...

Wow interactive brokers, wonder how much it is to start an account to be able to short....amazing they have some pennies like AAGH you can short. This would be some easy easy money.

well....looks like .005 per share comission, so much for shorting .10 and under pennies.

started to post, but trusted you'd do the math...

That's how they get you...yeah go ahead and short a .01 stock, but pay more in comissions then the amount of $$ you are investing.

ya, cost prohibitive...over "here" ie, domestic...you're putting up margin more or less...locking up deposit

How is that not true...you pay .005 cent per share in comission...1 million shares of some subpenny and all of a sudden you have 5,000 in comission with a 1,000 investment.

I'm not shorting myself, but i know of a group that uses IB to short pennies, and i don't think they are paying 5 grand on 1 grand investment.

do the Math:

Volume: IB Commission per Share**

<=300,000 Shares $ 0.0035
300,001-3,000,000 Shares $ 0.002
3,000,001-20,000,000 Shares $ 0.0015
>20,000,000 Shares $ 0.001
