I want this thread to be something different. A thread where technical and fundamental due diligence will be posted about stocks that meet the following two criteria:

(1) Priced less than $20.
(2) Traded on a major exchange (NYSE, AMEX, or NASDAQ). In other words, no OTC, pinks, or greys.

I'm doing some research, and will have some recommendations this evening.

there's already a forum for that Kevin...

http://www.allstocks.com/stockmessageboard/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/forum/f/7.html

it's funny how everybody wants to make the web-site over into their particular vision of "how things should be" [Wink]

That's not what that forum is. It's just the exchange-traded stocks, NOT the low-priced exchange stocks. Big difference.

OKAY Kevin.... i continue to hold and flip SVA...
they had some accounting issues which hurt them last year,

BUT? nothing serious, and?

they will eventually make themselves into a large biopharma with all of China for it's customers...
it's pretty easy to read the charts on it, so i won't insult you be by presuming to give you advice on when to buy and sell [Big Grin]

FRPT... it will be on the NAS in 1 month, and is under $20, and is going to $50.

Posted by Kevin Bailey on :

SVA and FRPT so far. Thanks guys.

As for FRPT, how certain is the listing? I've seen stocks go way up on rumors of listing, only to plummet to the micros when the rumors fell through.

They've already filed their application. The only requirement left is 1 more independent Board member.. I'm guessing Colin Powell.

Wow. What makes you say Powell?

Just a wild guess... probably not, but I'm guessing some 4 star General at least. Make it high profile.

There is the "swing traders" board that deals with under-$5.00 Nasdaq, Amex and NSYE stocks.

It'd be great if you got that board more active. Right now there is just one thread, although that one thread, covers many stocks.

swing traders was well-run by a guy named Art for several years...

he was a good moderator, and fun to debate with...but he got upset after a run-in with a poster...

he had felt he needed to delete some of her post, and i don't know the full story, but he left shortly after a dispute over what should be deleted and what shouldn't....

Jo-

I thought about posting to that board, since I would classify myself as something of a swing trader. However, it appeared that no one ever reads it, so I began posting again (after a 2 year break) in the Hot Stocks area, since it was both the most active, and it did fit the type of posts I want to make.

Posted by glassman on :

but Kevin, people would start reading and posting there if you did post good picks...

when Art was running it? it was very active...

it could be again...

Posted by Kevin Bailey on :

Glass-

I don't make enough volume of picks to keep a board active. I have a personal goal of one really solid pick every 7-10 days. That's hardly enough to sustain the traffic to the Swing Trader's forum. Right now, I'm working from a watch list of about 15 stocks, and running an analysis of them based on price, MACD, RSI, Stochastics, OBV, and a couple of technical values I created myself relating to price vs. 52 week values, before I post a pick or two to this thread.

Posted by Jo4321 on :

Give it a try and maybe it could be resurrected. Maybe we could talk Machiavelli and Repo into posting some picks there too.

Posted by Kevin Bailey on :

Jo-

If we can talk a couple other posters to go over there with me, I'd give it a try. Otherwise, I'd rather keep posting in a forum where I know the post has a real chance of finding some readers.

Posted by Jo4321 on :

I started a thread down there to see if there is any interest.

But Repo, you'll have to post one of your other picks there, cause FRPT is still OTCBB (for now) [Smile]

I read back through the FRPT behemoth thread, and it appears that--while he WAS early--that someone else actually brought FRPT to the board initially.

LOL... too late:

i already told him that last month... he admits it freely...

Posted by Jo4321 on :

Right, we all give kudos to Malloy as the one who originally brought FRPT to the boards. But Repo is the one who stuck with FRPT through good and bad and I*hub bashing. And, Malloy seems to have disappeared from Allstocks. Too bad, cause Repo and I owe him a drink.

I would frequent a Swing Trade forum that had good solid picks I could work with.

I prefer swing trading personally.

I think if we could get 5-7 people to commit to bringing at least one SOLID pick to the board every week or so, we could make a go of it. I'll be the first to volunteer. Any other takers?

I'm in, though you can't rush GENIUS... I'll try to keep up with the 1 week quota.

And Glassman - stop sounding so bitter. Just because I wasn't the first person to post a pick, doesn't mean I don't deserve credit for doing and posting relevant DD to help others... you sound like a jaded old girlfriend.

I totally agree about the not rushing thing. Like I said, my goal is one every 7-10 days, so I won't be slapdashing either. So far, I've been posting again for maybe a month or so, and I've brought 3 total picks to the board (ADST, ANDS, and ATS), of which two were big winners, and one I basically broke even on, because I made a mistake in picking a low volume NYSE stock. Hopefully we can kind of "stagger" our picks enough that it will provide a decent amount of traffic to that forum. If not, I guess we'll try to recruit more people to be pickers, or we'll just live with a "dead board" for a few days. So far, the volunteers I have are:

Kevin Bailey
Repoman

Others?

You're in retail ownership? I'm looking into investing some of my FRPT profits when it hits $50... I hear that strip mall owners make a nice return with NO overhead.

Have you flipped into free shares on your FRPT yet? I assume you have, but I just thought I would ask.

Nope. Still riding my original capital since $3.80, plus buys along the way at $4 and $7.40. I'm up so much, why bother?

Not selling one damn cent until bad news comes out. The road is paved with GOLD.

Having an almost 5-bagger in an OTC stock, in which the bottom could drop out doesn't scare you at all? I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I'd lock in something like initial capital+15%, just in case it all falls apart on you. I guess I've been burnt too often by paper gains lost.

Well, the fact is, if you do DD on this stock, the bottom isn't going anywhere, and it will only be OTC for a few more weeks.

To each his own though. $15.77 now.

Oh, I wasn't criticizing the play, I was simply speaking more to my lack of a stomach for a long-term OTC play. Now that it's apparently headed to the exchange, I can see how you'd have a lot more confidence.

Here's one that I got in back in September URRE (Canadian) was $4.15 then, now $6.81 – 64% gain. These uranium plays are all in the 60-80% growth mode since July.

ooops sorry its an OTC BB, my bad.

Posted by Kevin Bailey on :

No problem, Nel. I just don't like the OTC plays, as they tend to be too unpredictable for my liking. A lot of money to be made there, if you can game the system right, but the downside risk is to great for my tastes.

Company:
TheStreet.com

Exchange:
NASDAQ

Symbol:
TSCM

Current Price:
$9.55

5-day Target:
$10.00

30-day Target
$11.50

3-month Target
$13.00

Reasoning:
TSCM took a monstrous beating after a relatively good Q3 report, that still disappointed the analysts. Over the course of 5 days, it lost about 25% of its value, based on a report that actually showed GOOD numbers. After finding it's bottom of $8.32, it has demonstrated a clear bullish move, closing at $9.55 (up 14.8%), and forming a clear bullish flag from the peak of the "flag-pole" on last Thursday. Volume is decreasing, with the candlesticks forming higher lows, which is a further confirmation of the bullish flag.

Additionally, neither the RSI or the Stochastics are showing overbought, and both are trending upward, indicating buying pressure. MACD is trending upward, approaching 0, and once it passes through, the breakout to the upside will be confirmed. There may be some resistance around $10.00 (which I would identify as a potential exit for a shorter-term, 5-day play), but the resistance might be weak, which might make this a potentially much bigger runner in the 20-30 day range. I also see this as potentially being a good longer-term play, as the underlying fundamentals are strong.

They are more than just swing picks to me though.. dont plan on exiting them any time soon...

Oh, I see. The more research I do on TSCM, the more I'm thinking the same way about it.

swing trading part and long-term holding part is how i play almost all of my stocks...

that way? i don't miss the news if some hits... and i free up some cash now and then to play a trashy stock if it looks like it might run [Big Grin]

I like to play the charts for the short-termers, but I'm not afraid to stay in a stock if it's solid fundamentally.

It is trading above $30 now but it has a low share count. Forcasted to make $2.74 a share. Symbol is DXPE.

Also MIG looks like it is a good buy at current prices!

Thanks for the tips, osubucks. You should start a thread for your picks in the Swing Trader's forum.

Just bumping this. TSCM seems to have found a firmer true bottom in the mid to high 9.40s. I added to my position at 9.51 and 9.46. This could be a pretty decent runner, as the volume is drying up, and it appears to be coiling for a run.

Update on my pics from DEC 6th to current day prices on DEC 15th

IO is from 11.76 to 13.24, about a 12% gain.

SIM dropped quick but looks like that changes today. DEC 6th close 20.17 now hovering 15.73, down 22% as of now, but up 4% on the day.

KEX closed at 36.62 on DEC 6th and is now hovering around 35.90, so only a 2% loss so far.

All still long. [Smile]

One last yealy update.

Down
SIM - 14.25
KEX - 34.37
