I love the fact that nearly everyone posting here is in the hurricane strike zones...looks like Relentless is my neighbor almost (Mobile). As long as I don't have two houses for the next one (like I did for Katrina), I am game for one as long as the generator holds out and I don't have to stand in a friggin gas line this time.

;-)

LOL I was in mobile for Katrina.. My house is right at 35 feet above sea level.. about a block and a half off the coast.. I'd heard the surge was going to be close to that so I grabbed the wife and left..
Stayed in Daphne and watched as tornadoes and all manner of wrath wipped past.. cool storm.

I hate to admit it but I can remember buying puts on the market during Desert Storm hoping for the scuds to fly and our patriot missles failing to shoot them down just so I could cash in a few bucks. Guess there's money to be be made on the cusp of the end of the world. If it's gonna happen, I'm going down rich!

Yeah, I felt horrible doing it. Remember the Ashland oil spill 10 years or so ago? Bought puts on them too. A lot of people would say I have no morals but it really boils down to opportunities. You have no control over what's happening, perhaps you feel sorry for the people affected by it, might even do something to help them, but, when an opportunity presents itself, is it really wrong to try to profit from it?

It's the only way to live Upside..
I know people paralyzed by their own empathy for others. They spend every waking moment crying for someone else's loss... They end up emotionally depleted and stumbling from one horrid situation to another..
Best to check emotions at the birth canal and seize opportunities that present themselves.

Relentless, if you get washed away in the next big hurricane, it will bother me for a couple of minutes but after that, I'll be trying to figure out a way to obtain your assets, lol. Maybe I could deliver your eulogy in exchange for your holdings? I'd do you proud, I promise!

We live close to the AL/MS border, but north of I-10 - it was definately cool to hear and watch. I would have left too if I were that close to the shore....I would have b**ched the entire time, but would have left..... ;-)

Keep your fingures crossed guys if youre lucky you'll get your cat-5. I hope you guys got enough to hedge yourselves against skyrocketing energy prices and the decline of probably every other major investment you hold. Besides the fact of what it would do to the countries morale.

LMAO!!!!!! GO ECCI!

I could do without a Cat. 5 quite nicely - just a 3 or so should be enough to stir the 'cane stocks and give me a day or two off to sweat at home ;-)

From another board.

Well everybody don't be discouraged by the lack of storms, so far were already ahead of schedule based on NOAA's numbers and September should be a hot month for storms. Check out this excerpt from Dr. Jeff Masters ****.

"The relatively quiet hurricane season we've been enjoying is not going to last. A very active period will start, as soon as the atmosphere destabilizes a bit more. If one believes the long-range 2-week outlook from the GFS model, the current quiet period should last another 4-12 days. Around August 21, I expect it will appear that a switch has been thrown, and the Atlantic will be very active indeed. Expect our first hurricane in the Atlantic by August 26, and a very active September. However, I do expect we will get many recurving storms that will miss land, and that this hurricane season will be similar to the ones we experienced in 1995-2003."

I live on the east coast of Florida and want to see maybe C4 or C3,...C5...oh man.
To da moon!!!
Should have my head examined.

I keep running this scenario in my head where I have to leave and can't get to a computer...oh nooooooooo...LOL
Serve me right for wishing for a hurricane.

Typically though guys, September is the month to watch. Last year this time yes, there were major storms all over the place. But, just because there hasn't been much activity thus far does not mean September will be quiet.

When do you get discount rates for vacations in the Caribbean due to the possibility of hurricanes? October.
