I started a thread to post updates on the score between Obama and Mcain as POlls close.

Plus I have a question....How long after the polls close, does it take to know the results for that state?

And How long after the Final Poll closes should we know who the president will be?

The various networks and other sources use "exit poling data and "bell weather" analysis to predict the results long before the actual poll count can be known.

As it is not "proper" for them to "predict" before polls close, we should start hearing something within minutes after the first state polls close, but they will have an idea long before they can announce it.

So when should we know for sure? I got off at work at midnight eastern time?

The first polls close at 7 eastern time, I think, so check one of the major networks about 7:00:05 P.M. Eastern.

Of course, based on the track record of the exit polls from the past 2 cycles, the pollsters really haven't got a clue!

The 6:00pm eastern part of Indiana that Obama has to get to win in to get Indiana is going to be the hard part, but the half of the western Indiana surrounds Chi-town, where Obama got started.

Indiana being a battle ground state this could set an early tone.

I think McCain will pull it out. Prolly not in NY though. lol We've generally been a pretty solid blue state, unless the Hillariites vote against Obama, but I doubt it.

glad to hear it.
MS is the opposite of NY, no way we are going blue.

we're wacthing the seat Trent Lott gave up, it's Wicker (GOP) v Musgrove...

Wicker got pulled from the first congressional dist. seat to replace Lott. then his seat was lost to a Dem...

i doubt a Dem will win the statewide Senate race, but it's been an interesting race anyway..

It's fun to watch. I wonder what parts of Florida just reported in. Obama just jumped ahead there.

Anyone remember where the polls were at 4 years ago? I know they were pretty close. How many points was Kerry ahead of Bush going into election day?

Polls close here at 9, I doubt it will be a close race here though.

Virginia = 56% McCain right now with 23% reporting. Not bad considering that state is important to win.

He is getting spanked in North Carolina though

Oh yeah, with PA, OH, and they havent even gotten California yet? It is going to be done early.

What is REALLY messed up is how the popular vote works. Electorally Obama could blow him out, and then lose through popular vote. We have seen this mess before.

it's possible CCM, but when you see the CA popular numbers? i don't think it will leave any doubt...

it wouldn't bother me to see the electoral college done away with, but it is a major art of what makes us a democratic republic, not a democracy...

closer than i expected.

Missourrri, Indiana VA and Fla still too close to call...

MS is still too close , but it will go red...

i still think Palin lost it for McCain...

McCain should have done what Obama did, pick a non-competitive VP candidate and keep it about him, the GOP would have come to him, and fewer undecideds would have run away...
Palin is a female Dubya...

If McCain is going to lose, I'd like to see it be a landslide. I'm a little disappointed that the dems aren't going to get their 60 senate seats, but they should be close enough with a few RINOs to effectively have a filibuster proof margin.

With a clear mandate, the socialists will be completely responsible for everything that happens. That's something that the lefties don't like - RESPONSIBILITY!

you just don't get it.

the two abortion referendums failed too...

Colorado had a new definition for "person". It attempted to give rights to a feritilized egg, which would have effectively banned almost all contraception too...

SD had the other one, it is defeated...

Bush beat McCain.

Talking about an uphill battle, never had much of a chance. Not sure why any Republican would even want to try after the last 4 years. Guess that's why there politicians.

It will be interesting what happens in the next 6 months, the next president will have a load to try an straighten out, he will have a lot of choices to chose from.
