The UNL--husker hater here--system is being BOMBARDED both with SPAM and with a lot of weird virus type things---some e-mails are being delayed a week -and then going thru-----i recently purchsed a VCOM fix-it Ulilities at Best BUY that detected 12 oddities in my system---i wish i had printed out the report rather than click on the fix bitton so quick---some were described as search bots?
another conspiracy theory--who has the biggest financial interest in pesky/annoying but harmless viruses?
I also have been informed that a major server for the USDA recently had some serious problems.
You can type in "bot" and search the data base.It will bring up a lot of viruses like "spybot" ect. Maybe you will recognize something in there. One way to avoid some of the problems is (from browser) click [tools]--[Privacy]--reset cookies so they are not allowed while browsing. Reset to lower level when you are in familiar territory. Another program that can help is a good registry cleaner. It can clean up useless keys and those of unsophisticated viruses (and may improve the peerformance of your machine). ZDnet or TUcows have freeware and shareware with user ratings to show the best ones. I use regsupreme. It's free and is easy to use. A word of caution about the registry, don't delete anything you don't know is safe to remove. If you need more help with protection you can e me: white[AT]tillanet.com
