Tell you what folks I am getting more viruses sent to me that ever before and I get alot.

One reason is I have my emails on web pages that are in folks cache.

Second the viruses are getting tougher to catch?

Anyone other than Norton and McAfee making money on this stuff?

Maybe a service company? Data recovery?

The UNL--husker hater here--system is being BOMBARDED both with SPAM and with a lot of weird virus type things---some e-mails are being delayed a week -and then going thru-----i recently purchsed a VCOM fix-it Ulilities at Best BUY that detected 12 oddities in my system---i wish i had printed out the report rather than click on the fix bitton so quick---some were described as search bots?

another conspiracy theory--who has the biggest financial interest in pesky/annoying but harmless viruses?

I also have been informed that a major server for the USDA recently had some serious problems.

Glassman, I haven't heard of search bot, but here is a link for virus deffinitions.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/alphar.asp

You can type in "bot" and search the data base.It will bring up a lot of viruses like "spybot" ect. Maybe you will recognize something in there. One way to avoid some of the problems is (from browser) click [tools]--[Privacy]--reset cookies so they are not allowed while browsing. Reset to lower level when you are in familiar territory. Another program that can help is a good registry cleaner. It can clean up useless keys and those of unsophisticated viruses (and may improve the peerformance of your machine). ZDnet or TUcows have freeware and shareware with user ratings to show the best ones. I use regsupreme. It's free and is easy to use. A word of caution about the registry, don't delete anything you don't know is safe to remove.

We never used to allow cookies --Win 95,98 --i got SOOOO tired of hitting the pop-up cookie request button--i gave up--lots of sites wouldn't allow us access---when i got XP it has different levels of cookie blocker--i am going to set it to highest security for a while and see how it goes---LOL--i don't keep anything on this puter that i worry about--we have NON-LINE puters for that----i recommend Everyone consider this option---another strategy--MAY be--i request comments---to put a SECOND harddrive in your PC and set it up as a private PC--I have yet to even LOOK in BIOS on this new SONY cuz--i haven't needed to--By swiching in BIOS you can have TWO separate PC's in one--BUT?- it may still have security issues that I am unaware of---i have used the two harddrives to save data for years now--it has saved me from losing YEARS of data---especially at XMAS-LOL- when all the new toys get installed--i have had BRAND name software throw Windows explorer into closed loops--WWWAAAAAAHHHHH
